Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I have been using Vagifem for around 5 years, and initially, it was great, but in the past 12 months, I have also been experiencing burning and irritation and have also started wondering if there has been a change in what is in the pessary."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I am aged 68, and 3 years ago suddenly had vaginal and bladder pain, frequent urination, soreness, itching, redness, and swelling. The soreness has recently gotten worse, and my gynecologist prescribed Vagifem. From the first dose, I experienced bloating and stomach ache but carried on until dose 7. About 1 hour after insertion, I experienced the most terrible burning, which carried on all night and has been flaring up in the 4 days since. Now I cannot use any of my emulsifiers or herbal creams, which used to help. This medication has caused the worst pain ever. In my experience, even a score of 1 is too good for it."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I’ve been using this since my hysterectomy back in 2005 with no issues, twice a week, but in the last two months, I’ve noticed burning, which I thought was a UTI infection or bladder infection. Did three rounds of antibiotics. I saw no difference. I also think that they must’ve changed the ingredients in this hormone replacement because I’m experiencing itching, burning, and I feel like I have to pee all the time. It is so bad that I’m waking up at night with a burning sensation."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I started using Estrace two years ago after major perimenopause symptoms. Around this time, my periods stopped, and I did find quite a bit of relief from vaginal and urethral pain and dryness, as well as frequent urination and burning. Have gotten along fairly well with several short flare-ups until recently when I have had a return of my symptoms even though I am still using the Estrace. Any suggestions or experience with this?"

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "This drug contains polyethylene glycol, which can be an irritant! Read the label! No wonder I had constant burning whenever I used this drug. The FDA needs to be alerted so other women will not be harmed by it. I had three biopsies of my skin in the vaginal area, which all came back as precancerous. It required constant medication just to keep it from getting worse, but it never completely healed this area. When I finally discovered the glycol and quit using it, my skin has returned to almost normal!"

I experienced soreness, burning, itching, and increased need to urinate, plus greenish discharge. I’m discontinuing immediately.” (Posted by NotPleased on March 22, 2021.) Ditto. I thought something was wrong with me until I started reading reviews for this product online."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Urethritis "Yesterday was the first time I used Estrace Vaginal Cream. I have experienced burning and throbbing. I will not use it again. My co-pay was $146.73. Wish there would have been samples. I could have saved the money."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "Can only use brand name Vagifem. Generic does not work at all. Packaging is horrible, and symptoms of burning, itching, dryness, and feeling of a UTI, and constantly having to urinate are what happens when using generic. Had to go back to using Vagifem. Unfortunately, the copay is really high until I meet my deductible. Insurance needs to offer this medication at a more affordable cost."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I just started using Imvexxy, and although initially it felt like it was helping, things have taken a turn for the worse. I have mild cramping, itching, burning, and increased urination with burning. Got checked for UTI, and none present. The only thing that has changed has been the introduction of Imvexxy. I'm also having stomach issues. Imvexxy is not for me. I had high hopes, but the side effects are intolerable."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "Insufficient insertion instructions. The inside of the applicator came away from the outside once. It says the tablets won't fall out when you stand up, but the first three times, my cervix must have pushed it straight out. Tried using them at bedtime, only to find them on the sheet in the morning. Tried again at bedtime, only to find the tablet stuck, half-melted, to the tip of my cervix the next day. Slight stinging sensation at first; when that stops, it's probably because the tablet has fallen out. No instructions for pessary wearers; presumably, we remove the pessary before administering. The only method I haven't tried yet is putting the tablet in, followed immediately by inserting the pessary, but that would defeat the object, I imagine, leaving me dry and sore beneath. I don't care for throwaway applicators; it seems a waste of plastic not to wash and reuse them. The doctor said to stay on these for life, but I can't see the point if they won't stay in. Liquid or ointment would be better."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Urethritis "47 years old. Prescribed by gynecologist. 1 month of being in a nightmare. Severe vaginal swelling, itchiness, burning, pain, and thrush-like symptoms without discharge but severe pain. My vagina since taking this medication feels like an overripe, rotten, juicy tomato. I also have severe water retention and swelling in my lower body. Just waiting until it's out of my system."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I have been using the generic brand Estrace, 1g twice a week for three and a half years to alleviate the symptoms of vaginal atrophy caused by menopause, including dryness, burning, and itching. Initially, sex was comfortable until my husband's low testosterone and low libido issues caused a significant decrease in our sexual activity. As a result, my vagina has narrowed and shortened due to lack of use, causing painful intercourse, despite continuing the use of Estrace. I plan to increase my Estrace dosage for a few weeks to address these changes and improve the discomfort during sex. It is ironic that my husband's low libido has led to my discomfort, which now irritates him. Technically, it is his fault that we did not engage in sexual activity regularly, leading to these issues."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "My doctor put me on Vagifem in December, and within weeks, I felt great. In April, I got my refill, and it was switched to Yuvafem. By mid-May, all my symptoms were coming back, and I was miserable, constantly felt like I had a UTI, and the dryness and burning were awful. My doctor switched me back to brand name, and I am slowly improving again. Yuvafem did not work for me at all. I agree with the others that the packaging was terrible as well, I had to use scissors to open each one, and then the tablets would fall out because they were not in the applicators."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "After using this medication for only 2 weeks, I called my doctor because of extremely severe vaginal burning. Even after modifying the treatment days, symptoms continued. I discontinued this TERRIBLE medicine, and all the discomfort, burning pain disappeared. So, for this reason, I will not use this drug."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I was on Vagifem for 10 years without any problems, except Medicare kept raising the copay. But I was very willing to pay my share of well over $200 for three months' supply. Then Medicare stopped covering it and changed to Yuvafem. Last Friday, I used my first pill insert and felt some burning in the vagina and urethra. It finally subsided after 12 hours. The following Tuesday, I inserted my next dosage, and 3 hours later, woke up with intense burning. I had to get an ice pack to help ease the terrible burning. I will be calling the manufacturer, my GYN, and my insurance. I will ask my GYN to prescribe me the Vagifem and pay for it out of pocket. I can NOT endure another night in this intense burning!"

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I obviously had an extreme sensitivity to whatever this device is composed of. Within 5 hours of having it inserted, I began to experience severe burning and pressure. I also developed hives on my face and neck. I removed the device, and all symptoms subsided. I am most likely allergic to it (silicone). I am also extremely dismayed at the cost; not sure if I’d even consider long-term use if it had been effective with the cost."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I tried Yuvafem right after using Vagifem for 10 years. Much to my disappointment, I had to stop using Yuvafem because all it did was continuously burn inside my vagina. I gave it 3 weeks, and I just couldn't tolerate it any longer. So, I had to bite the bullet (cost) and go back to Vagifem. I'm a senior citizen living off of SSI, and I'm very worried how much longer I will be able to pay for this important medication. The drug companies, pharmacies, and insurance companies are robbing us!"

For Atrophic Vaginitis "Used either Vagifem, Estrace cream, or Premarin for years. OK at first, but vulvar swelling, burning, itching for the last 3 years, no matter what I used. Worse when I stopped it because atrophic vaginitis came back. Researched - all these products have additives that cause allergic reactions. Insisted on vulvar biopsy - showed hypersensitivity (allergic) reaction! Stopped for a few weeks, sex was more painful. Researched and learned about compounded estrogen in hypoallergenic cream base (VERSABASE). I had an MD write a prescription for Estriol in Versabase, 1 mg/gm and sent it to the compounding pharmacy. I am cured! No atrophic vaginitis, and no allergic reaction! I feel normal for the first time in years. Compare compounding pharmacies as prices vary. Your burning could be from allergy to prescription estrogens!"

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I’ve been using Imvexxy for about 1 month. I’ve noticed hot flashes and night sweats have increased. I’m having leg heaviness and tiredness, as well as lower back pain. Insomnia has also gotten worse. I get a burning sensation and discharge after usage. I take 10 mcg every two days. I will reduce my usage to once a week and see if the symptoms resolve. I will keep you posted."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "After 2 years of using BI pellets for HRT, had to choose an alternative and chose Yuvafem. Got Yuvafem but assumed it would work the same. Yuvafem application tool very uncomfortable to insert. About 2 weeks of using this product, had some discharge and itching. Thought - yeast infection and purchased a 3-day OTC. But didn't use it and the next day the symptoms were gone. After 2.5 months of using Yuvafem, recently started noticing what looked like a brownish discharge/spotting. Spoke to an ob-gyn's nurse, decided to wait till Monday and see if it's better. That night I had burning inside my abdomen. All weekend, felt like I had a UTI with abdominal and back pain. Monday, my GP doc did a urine test which was negative. After an additional 24 hours, the culture was still negative for UTI. At that point, started reading reviews about Yuvafem and found many similar stories to what I am experiencing. I will not use this product again and I hope the burning and internal pain go away soon!"

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "Used to help with painful intercourse, but no longer helps. I have a burning, stinging sensation that has gotten worse. Only problem is when I take out the Estring, about 2 weeks later, itching and irritation is back. Is this how menopausal women feel without any help? I do not want to keep using this until I get a second opinion on if it's safe for long-term use. It definitely helps a little. I've been using it for maybe 2 or 3 years."

For Atrophic Urethritis "My script for estradiol cream caused itching and burning, so my urologist recommended using a compound pharmacy. I received my tiny tube and used a pea-sized amount per instructions. It was prepared in a hypoallergenic base and did not contain a preservative. I had instant extreme burning. Unfortunately, it was expensive, and I'll be throwing it out."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "I have been using a pea-sized amount of generic Estrace since Sept 2022. I have had burning and inflammation. After visiting four different gynecologists, all of whom kept telling me it can't be the Estrace, I finally found a doctor in the next state over who actually listened. A biopsy showed inflammation from irritant contact dermatitis. Heading to a dermatologist this week, hopefully for patch testing. Now awaiting the arrival of compounded estrogen."

Estradiol topical for Atrophic Vaginitis "No problems with Vagifem. After using Yuvafem for a couple of weeks, I started getting a discharge and feeling like I had an infection with burning and itching. It feels as if I am allergic to something in the drug. Going back to Vagifem."
