For Acne "All my 40 years, I have struggled with mood swings and severe cystic acne. Birth control only seemed to make these worse, and the dermatologist only prescribed super expensive topical and oral treatments, which barely helped, if at all. My doctor eventually prescribed Yaz to me. The first 3-4 months were terrible. I broke out constantly and had very heavy periods as well. Then, after month 4, everything changed. My skin became clearer than I have seen it in my entire life. Each month afterwards, my periods became lighter, and my mood swings disappeared. I’ve been on Yaz for 14 months now, and I still have amazing skin and stable moods. Sometimes I don’t get my period, and sometimes I do. I have maybe had 2 pimples the entire time, but they are just normal pimples and not the terrible cystic acne I used to get."

"It’s been almost 2 years on the pill (Yaz). I started taking Yaz because of my period and acne. I would bleed so heavily I could never control it, horrible back pain and cramps. I also had acne so bad I hated going anywhere. After about 6 months to a year being on the pill, my acne cleared up, and I just was getting small pimples every once in a while. I gained weight in my butt, sides, and thighs. Now, being on the pill for 2 years, I have realized how much it has affected me emotionally. Every month at the end of my pack, I get very depressed and cry for reasons I can’t explain. The depression and crazy mood swings affected me, my parents, and my boyfriend. I’m not myself, and I’m not sure what to do. I feel like if I talk to my doctor about it, I’m gonna have to be taken off the pill, and what if my acne comes back and my period gets bad? At this point, I don’t care. I’m tired of not being me and feeling depressed. Any help?"

For Birth Control "I started Yaz a year ago, and all was fine for the first few months, but I started getting so moody, so I decided to stop. Then, after 4 months, I started again, and it’s been the worst decision of my life. The only benefits are no pregnancy and less pain on my period. My mood swings have been crazy and unending, and my anxiety and depression are following me everywhere. I’m losing contact with myself, and I don't know who I am anymore because I feel so numb. I have lost interest in people I know I love, and I’ve become lazy. I have decided that I will stop today."

For Birth Control "It's been 3 weeks now, and I have decided to stop taking it. I was on Blisovi before. The Yaz pill made me EXTREMELY emotional. I have already been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, and this pill made it that much worse. I began having really negative thoughts, along with emotional tantrums and horrible mood swings. My sex drive is at an all-time low. Please do not take this pill if you are prone to anxiety or depression."

For Birth Control "I was nervous starting Yaz for my endometriosis because of reviews I had read and my bad experiences with birth control when I was a teenager. During the first couple of weeks, I was very emotional - cried every day. After that, my emotions were more regular. I had very little appetite, I lost over 10 pounds in a month. My skin didn't change much. I would have stayed on Yaz because I didn't have any of the pain or symptoms that usually come with my period, but I started spotting about a month in, and I have been bleeding ever since. I start Yasmin this week, and I am very nervous for the transition."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on this birth control for about eight months, and I believe my acne is a lot clearer. It does make me quite emotional for no reason sometimes, and when I get my period, I get painful cramps, which I’ve never had before. I’ve also seemed to gain weight and dislike myself. But my boobs did go up a few sizes."

For Birth Control "I am at month 7 of taking Yaz, and I've never been more anxious and depressed in my entire life (I'm 21). I've never had so many panic attacks and mood swings in a year. I had so many health problems this year, and I've been to the hospital so many times. Those things never happened to me before. The reason why I started this pill was to avoid pregnancy. Well, it worked, but my anxiety made me feel paranoid always about being pregnant because I was bloated all the time, and my periods were always changing. My anxiety made me lose too much weight and caused acid reflux, which left me with persistent nausea for months, and I got a lot of migraines, which recently began to be aura migraines. My mom said that I was not the same person anymore. My boyfriend is sad to see me like this, and I don't really see my friends anymore because of my social anxiety. I'm getting off this pill tonight. Don't ever use it, it's ruining lives."

For Birth Control "I got on this birth control when it first came in 2006 when I was 16. I was on it up until I was 22. Switching was the biggest mistake ever. I LOVED this birth control. I never had any problems with it. Lighter and shorter periods, cleared up my skin, and no bloating or weight gain. The only downfall was I did get very emotional, but that was it, and maybe occasional breakthrough bleeding. Best of all, it worked for me. I am switching back to this birth control and can't wait."

For Birth Control "I'm just finishing my 1st pack of Yaz and couldn't be happier. A few years ago, I tried the shot, only once. It took a full year for my period to get back to normal. About a year ago, I tried a generic birth control pill. It was an effective form of birth control, which was the major reason I used it for, but similar to the shot, I had almost no libido, was very emotional, and had bad acne. My fiancé kept bringing up Yaz. I decided to give it a shot since he put up with me so long. I've been happy, acne is going away, no bad side effects, and libido is up. The only way to make it better is if it was cheaper. My insurance only takes off $10, so $50/month for BCP is the only downfall."

For Birth Control "I would rate this above 10 if I could. This is the best birth control I have ever taken. I suffer from PMDD, and my time of the month without Yaz, I feel like I could hurt people for no reason at all, just because I didn't like the way they looked at me or whatever. Anyways, Yaz has helped that out so much. My husband is so happy with the results. I have had no weight gain, no cramping, and only 3-day periods with very little bleeding, and the best part is no irritability or major mood swings."

For Birth Control "Was prescribed Yaz to regulate my period and control acne. From day one, I turned into a different person - crazy mood swings, fits of anger and rage that had me so mad at my boyfriend, extreme depression that left me crying all night, no energy, and I had anxiety attacks that basically paralyzed me on the floor, unable to open my hands. So basically, the worst 18 days of my life. Cold turkey stop, despite the doctor telling me to finish the pack. Sorry, I value my sanity, job, and relationship way too much. Only positive - cleared up my hormonal acne. Not even close to worth it."

For Birth Control "The first couple of months I took this, I had some mood swings and felt rather emotional, but that went away. After about 3 months, the acne I had been dealing with my entire life was 100% gone and has not returned for over a year. If there have been any weight changes, it's been lost weight. And it made my boobs bigger. Love it."

"A doctor recommended Yaz to help with my acne. I’m a 27-year-old woman, and I would still get a lot of pimples. Like many of you guys, I spent hours looking at reviews. I was scared of it worsening my acne and the mood swings. I’ve been on Yaz for 3 months, and WOW, let me say for the first time in ten years my skin has been the clearest I can remember. I didn’t notice it got worse, but it’s probably because it was pretty bad at that point, and by the second month I started noticing improvement. Now at month 3, I barely get any pimples, and if I do, they clear much faster. (It's not the painful cystic acne I used to get.) I luckily haven’t noticed any mood swings. I feel fine. Much better now that my skin is improving so much. My breasts feel very painful, however, I’m not so mad because they are growing. Hope this can help!"

For Birth Control "I was on this medication for one month and have never felt worse in my entire life. Before taking this pill, I was an energetic and positive person. Now I am exhausted all the time and hit a wall at 4:00 every day. My confidence has plummeted, and I am experiencing extreme mood swings, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. I have never experienced anxiety prior to taking this birth control, and I have had multiple intense panic attacks within the past month. Other side effects have been increased heart rate, tight chest, trouble breathing, and chronic headaches. I was put on Yaz for my acne, and it did help in some sense, but it is not worth feeling like crap 24/7."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I highly recommend Yaz for anyone experiencing awful PMS/PMDD. I was on a generic pill, Lutera, for around 6 months, and each month my symptoms got worse and worse. The last week that I was on it was one of the worst weeks of my life: mood swings, roller coaster emotions, suicidal thoughts, and I begged my doctor to put in an IUD. She had me try Yaz, and I'm glad she did. For the first month, I cramped more than usual and my breasts were tender, but the change in my emotional level is amazing. I can actually function! This drug was life-changing for me."

For Birth Control "I've been on Yaz for 18 months. Since starting Yaz, I've noticed no major weight changes (maybe lost a few pounds, but I attribute that to stress) and some minor acne breakouts. The biggest three changes were mood swings, change in menstrual flow, and a huge decrease in libido. My husband noticed my mood swings and said I seem to be overall less enthusiastic about life. My flow changed to some very strange bleeding (heavy in the morning, nonexistent at night, sometimes lasting 10 days). Overall, my period flow was lighter, I just couldn't seem to get a normal flow. The lack of libido has been a huge deal in my marriage. I went from wanting sex a few times a week to not wanting it at all."

For Birth Control "I started Yaz about 5 to 6 years ago, when I was 18. It worked really well for me, my breasts grew at least a cup and a half, my skin got a lot clearer, but my sex drive dropped. I don't think I even realized how much. Then for the last four months or so, I started spotting in between periods-a lot. Until one day I got my period, and it just didn't go away. I had it for one whole month. That's when I went to a doctor, and he told me this was relatively normal after having taken it for so many years. He told me to stop for one to two months and then start again. Well, I'm now three weeks into Yaz for the second time in my life, my skin is clearing up again, my boobs are growing again, but I'm super depressed and emotional for no reason. My first period was over ten days, and I'm spotting every day since then. I'm wondering if this is just the beginning of the pill and that it's normal-I will see a doctor this week and decide what to do about it."

For Birth Control "This pill is exactly as the commercial explains, specifically for PMDD and birth control. After reading a lot of the other reviews, I had to chime in. For those of us who are unfortunate enough to be a mess for 3 out of 4 weeks a month, this pill is a miracle. Insurance decided they weren't going to cover much of it (I ended up paying $20, then $40 per pack, per month), and then once I lost my insurance, I loved the effects so much and how I felt on it that I forked over $64 a month for a few months until it was just way too steep. This pill is NOT for the casual 'I just don't need a baby right now' birth control user! It is for women with serious emotional and physical side effects related to PMS!!!"

For Birth Control "It's been more than two years with the Yaz pill, and there was nothing wrong in the first place, no extra pounds, no extra cellulite, no absurd food issues, and no extra baby. But then my migraine started getting bad. I had loss of vision, severe headaches, and very, very harsh mood changes. No, not change, more like some permanent anger. So I quit Yaz. I don't use anything else right now because I don't trust pills. It has been just a week, but even now I feel better."

For Birth Control "This was the first birth control pill I went on because I was having heavy periods and cramps, but also because I started having sex. Never really had too many problems, still had pretty heavy days for the first 2 out of 6, but at least they would come like clockwork. I did get super emotional for about 3 days a month, where almost anything would make me cry and where I would get the occasional extreme cramp. Overall, it worked pretty well for me, never got pregnant even though I had a ton of sex near the end (usually also had condoms) and managed to rarely miss a pill."

For Acne "I was prescribed Yaz, but my doc told me to ask for the 'generic brand,' and so I did as directed. However, I had only looked up reviews for Yaz, but not for Vestura, the generic brand. I settled, and after getting home, I did my research on Vestura. Now I realize birth controls will affect people differently, and there are going to be great reviews and terrible ones, but Vestura only had terrible reviews. I took Vestura anyway, and wow, biggest mistake ever!!! DO NOT TAKE VESTURA! SPEND THE MONEY ON YAZ! Vestura made me have the worst mood swings, crying for hours about nothing, and then hyper the next minute. For the 3 weeks I have been on Yaz, I have been 100% myself, even lost 6 pounds and skin clearing! Love it!!!"

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I've been using Yaz since June of 2007. I love how it's made my life so much better. I was on a generic pill prior to Yaz, and my cramps were worse than they ever had been, my mood was all over the place, and my periods were still irregular and lasted anywhere from 7 to 12 days. I told my doctor that I had spent a good two hours crying over a lost sock one month. She told me I probably had PMDD and to try Yaz. The first few months were full of crazy mood swings, probably while my body adjusted to it, but since then I've not had any problems with this pill. I'm very light and regular, and they only last 3 to 5 days. My mood doesn't change, and neither has my appetite. Everyone is different, but that's been my experience."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I started this pill because I was having crazy mood swings and just not feeling like myself at least 3 weeks out of the month. My doctor prescribed me this, hoping it would also treat my acne along with PMDD. Well, the first month was pretty rough as far as my acne was concerned, but it wasn't as bad as I've read in other reviews. I had a few painful cystic pimples within 2 weeks of taking Yaz. I felt really embarrassed because my old pill (Loestrin) gave me clear skin, and I wasn't used to acne anymore. Well, now I'm about to start my 4 inactive pills, and about 3 days ago my skin just cleared up like MAGIC. I read that it takes about 3 months to level out your hormones. But I finally feel like myself again! No more crazy crying fits!!"
