For Birth Control "As far as birth control... never got pregnant. That is the only plus. Horrible cramps, heavy bleeding, soaking through tampons in an hour or less, passing of large clots, headaches. Looking forward to switching off to a different BCP."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "Started taking Yaz for heavy periods and very severe PMS/PMDD. Two weeks into the first pack, and I started bleeding. Not just normal, but really bad bleeding. A week later, and I was in the emergency room being admitted for severe blood loss and had 3 units of blood transfused."

For Birth Control "I'm 21. I went on Yasmin during the summer (had never been on birth control before). My periods tend to be quite heavy, so I wanted something to ease them up and also was using it for birth control purposes. I was only on it for 12 days and had to come off it. I got the most excruciating pains in my stomach I’d ever experienced. They were so bad I started throwing up. I decided to come off it, and the pains disappeared, but I was left with bleeding for 25 days! Didn’t work well for me, but I know people who are on it and have no problems! Trial and error, I guess."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I suffered PMT in my youth, and after years of being free, at the age of 42, the condition came back with even more severity. I was prescribed Yasmin by my gynecologist, and the first month was fantastic. I am now in my second month, and my symptoms are worse than ever. I have constant headaches, severe bloating, cramps, breakthrough bleeding, and chronic fatigue. I am hoping the third month will regulate my cycle and settle the symptoms."

For Birth Control "I started using birth control for heavy periods senior year of high school. I first used EnkySence, and it gave me bad nausea and horrible acne. I switched to this, and I am on my fourth pack. It keeps my periods lighter and doesn't make me break out. The only problem I have had is if I don't take it within two hours of the time I take it every day, I will start having light bleeding. I don't get nausea and only had mood swings the first week."

For Birth Control "I have been on pretty much every birth control pill out there, all with side effects that were serious enough for me to have to go off of them. I started taking Yasmin, and for the first time, I had no breakthrough bleeding, no side effects. I was on it for about two years when I decided to go off of it to have a baby. I used a backup method for about 6 months and then tried to get pregnant. One night, one try, and I was pregnant. So I think it works well at preventing pregnancy! When the time came to go back on the pill, I was concerned I wouldn't be able to get it because of all the stuff I've been hearing. My doctor said that there are increased risks, but that the risks are minimal, especially given that I'm under 35 and don't smoke."

For Birth Control "I am 46. My gynecologist said not to believe the reviews after prescribing Yaz to me. So, I didn't read the reviews. I stopped taking it yesterday. Here is why: severe bleeding, even now...20 days later, depression, suicidal thoughts, and depletion of reserves of my vitamin B12. This drug should not be on the market. I have put forth a complaint to the company and suggest everyone does the same. I am still suffering the consequences of taking it. And I hope my suffering ends soon, and I feel better. If you are suffering like me...feel better...stop taking it."

For Birth Control "My experience on Loryna has not been a good one. I originally had been on Yaz and Beyaz and had no issues at all! I thought they were miracle pills! I'm in my late thirties and wanted a birth control to help with my moods, breakouts, and period. Unfortunately, Loryna did the opposite for me. After five months of taking it, I have decided to stop. I had bleeding for 2 months straight, acne breakouts on my chest, back, and face. And a ton of pain! As if my uterus was contracting constantly. I finished my last pack/pill and have stopped. Within 2 days of stopping, the bleeding stopped, the pain is gone, and my skin is clearing up. I'm not sure why this happened, but I'm finding generic birth controls are different from the brand. It's frustrating!"

For Birth Control "I was on Yaz for 5 weeks. I used to break out a little bit every once in a while. I wanted to go on birth control to completely clear it. Within a week, I was so badly bloated I couldn't fit into my clothes. I bled heavily nonstop the entire five weeks I was on it. I am prone to a bit of anxiety/depression, but I have NEVER experienced anything like the kind of depression I had on this pill (panic attacks, constant crying). But WORST OF ALL - it gave me severe, nodular cystic acne. My skin went from near perfect to clogged pores covering my entire cheeks, which became HUGE DEEP nodular acne that has left my face scarred. Even after being off the pill, I remained sick. Finally, almost 2 years later, I saw a naturopath who found that the pill had COMPLETELY thrown off my hormones. With her help, I was finally able to balance my hormones, clear my acne, and fix my sleep. This pill almost ruined my life. There are WAY better ways to fix your acne (diet, hormone changes with a naturopath, exercise)."

For Birth Control "I just started my second pack, and I am pleased so far with the product. It seems like, based on all the other reviews, this BC is either going to be excellent for you or a nightmare. Luckily, I seem to be responding well. I won't lie, the first week was terrible, but I knew it would be since I was switching from Gildess. The first day was okay, second day I was angry, third day everything made me cry, I literally cried all day long. The next day I was tired, then I was pissed again, and then my hormones finally calmed down. I've noticed my acne and blackheads have cleared up significantly, my appetite is under control, and my moods are more even. I am having a small amount of breakthrough bleeding, which is to be expected on a new BC pill."

For Birth Control "I've been on Loryna for years, and I fell in love with how well I adjusted with no side effects. THEN CVS switches me to Nikki and promised it was the same exact medicine (yeah right), and that I should have no issues. But what they don't tell you is that the inactive ingredients can fluctuate from brand to brand and have horrid interactions with your body, and let me tell you, Nikki is the pits! The first week I couldn't stop crying, three months in, I'm STILL CRYING! I have broken out in hives, struggle with severe headaches, and constantly endure tender, painful breasts. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the recent two weeks of nonstop bleeding I experienced while not even being scheduled to start my cycle. This was it! I was done. I switched my pharmacy to Walgreens, and I am back on Loryna, and within four hours of taking the first Loryna pill, my bleeding stopped. I wouldn't give this BC (Nikki) to my worst enemy."

For Birth Control "I was on Gianvi for two years and just stopped taking it because side effects were getting to me. PRO: cheap, cleared up my ache and prevented pregnancy. For several months, it reduced my migraines, and I felt no mood changes. CON: over time, my migraines got horrible and more frequent, breasts increased a cup size, felt in a constant 'brain fog,' had constant breakthrough bleeding that started triggering bacterial vaginosis infections, and got vaginal dryness. I think this may work for you if you aren't sensitive to hormones."

For Birth Control "I was on Yaz for over a year before I had Mirena put in. I had really heavy periods and severe cramping before I was on Yaz, and Yaz made my periods almost invisible. No cramping, light bleeding, and I had energy. Recommend."

For Birth Control "I'm 30 and tried many different pills since I was 14. (Microgynon 50ED being the longest used.) I went off the pill for 3 years at 27, then started on Yasmin for 6 months and had a lot of breakthrough bleeding. My doctor then switched to the Implanon (under-skin implant) for 4 months, breakthrough bleeding continued, got massive headaches. I then had it removed and have now been back on Yasmin for a further 5 months. Non-stop bleeding, some days heavy, some light, bad acne breakouts, extremely tender breasts, bloating, emotionally unstable, mood swings, and panic attacks - all of which I've never had in my life! I also have polycystic ovarian syndrome, and this has not improved this at all."

For Birth Control "I first started this pill 6 months ago. It cleared up my acne very quickly. However, continuing the pill, I became very moody and anxious about everything. I have also experienced some weight gain and major cravings, and while I am very active, I found it hard to resist cravings and work out more. I have become very tired, pissed off, and unmotivated. I am in high school, and there is no reason for me to feel any of these symptoms, but it has messed with my hormones terribly. Before BC, I would have up to 5-day-long light periods. Now, I bleed up to a week and a half, heavier than before also. I do not recommend; the only positive factor is clear skin (and not getting pregnant, I guess)."

For Acne "I had terrible cystic acne in my 20s, and my OBGYN recommended starting on the YAZ combination pill. This was my first experience on BC pills ever. My insurance covered only generics, so I began on VESTURA. Tbh, the first 2 months on this pill were BAD. It cleared my acne, but it also caused me to have a regular period for 60 days. The constant bleeding caused extra fatigue, and depression followed due to the lack of energy. I voiced my concerns to my OBGYN, but she pressed me to continue the pill into the 3rd month and report back. I'm glad I did stay on it. Literally, on the start of the third pack (3rd month), the bleeding stopped. I had been on the pill for 2 years and never had any bad side effects. Some light bloating at times, but nothing else. Periods were always on time, with light to no cramps. Emotions felt more balanced. And effectively, no cystic acne, which was a relief."

For Birth Control "I was put on Yasmin for 6 months to regulate my cycle and reduce acne flare-ups, and it was the worst 6 months of my life. I gained 20 lbs that did NOT come off easily after stopping the pill, experienced horrible mood swings, had HEAVIER periods, acne breakouts, breakthrough bleeding, and I was nauseous all the time. This pill seems to agree with most people, but it definitely did not agree with me. I went on Femcon a year after stopping Yasmin and experienced virtually no side effects."

For Acne "I was on Gianvi for many years (at least 4). For all of it except the past year, Gianvi has been great. It controlled my acne and helped me have lighter periods. The past year has been worse, though. I've had my periods not show up on the placebo pill days (they start 4 days after the placebo pill days, so they actually start after I start the next pack), and I've actually had breakthrough bleeding during sex, which made me worry I had something much, much more serious going on as I was bleeding a LOT during sex only. My doctor told me I needed to swap to a higher hormone dose, so I had to go off this pill. Otherwise, I had no issue."

For Birth Control "I was put on Zarah because I needed a low-dosage pill, after being on Loestrin that made me sick. I have been taking it for 2 years, now, all of a sudden, I'm having breakthrough bleeding out of nowhere, like I just started the pill."

For Birth Control "I have been diagnosed with PCOS, and it was chosen that I would take Yasmin. I was fine for 4 months, then I started bleeding and didn't stop for over 3 weeks! Dreadful pill! Didn't help properly at all! I don't advise anyone to take it!"

For Birth Control "I have been on Yasmin from the start of July, and I had to stop taking it at mid-pack because it was giving me headaches. I couldn't eat or sleep. It also let me bleed. Now I'm off it for five days, and I'm having spotting on and off. It's very terrible. It gives me acne that I never had before."

For Birth Control "This was the second BC I have ever taken. It was absolutely terrible. I have always had light periods (panty liner light) and no cramps. When I took this birth control, I had such horrible cramps that I kept throwing up. I continued to take it, but after bleeding like a waterfall for a week and a half, I called my doctor. She told me that I had to finish taking it for a month or else I had the possibility of bleeding to death. So I bled the entire month. I didn't receive another period until 3 months later. Don't take this birth control."

For Birth Control "I just finished my second month of Gianvi, and it will be my last. CONS: Constant bleeding, gained weight, horrible headaches, and mood swings that make me feel crazy. PRO: No pregnancy, on-time period, went from a B to a C cup, no change in skin."

For Birth Control "I LOVE OCELLA! I was on a generic form of Seasonale and it was HORRIBLE. I had the worst depression/mood swings ever and breakthrough bleeding EVERYDAY. So I switched to Ocella and love it. Acne hasn't really cleared up and I do have some weight gain, but my eating habits aren't the best either, so I won't blame it on that. I don't like that the price went up, but I'm not going to switch because I feel so normal now and never want to experience anything like my first birth control. I definitely recommend Ocella!"

"I wish I had taken this earlier! Don't be discouraged by negative reviews, as everyone's bodies react differently. Over the past two years, I've been struggling with depressive episodes, excessive facial hair growth, hair loss on my head, and difficulty losing weight. Additionally, I have a history of a recurring cyst on my left ovary that can impact my hormones. Realizing that I needed to take action, I consulted with a doctor who suggested the 'mini-pill,' which turned out to be a terrible decision. The extra progestin caused breakthrough bleeding and made me feel mentally unstable. After abandoning that doctor, I sought out a women's health specialist who promptly prescribed Yasmin, primarily for my hair issues but also with the theory that it could boost my mood. To my delight, she was right! I haven't experienced any weight gain, and in fact, I'm slowly shedding some pounds. My hair has been falling out less, but I have noticed some cramping and a bit more fatigue. Overall, though, Yasmin has been fantastic!"
