For Birth Control "So before I was on Cyred EQ for 4 months. I switched to Nikki because of my cramps. So I noticed my breasts got bigger, I gained 4 pounds in one month, my appetite is just, oh my gosh, I get hungry all the time. I have horrible mood swings. I watched the Grinch movie that just came out, and I was sobbing because the Grinch was being nice to his dog - I'm serious. This birth control is horrible, it didn't help my acne, I noticed more when I got on Nikki. I feel so heavy. I'm switching to Yaz."

For Birth Control "I wanted to start a birth control before I got married, so I have been on Nikki for about 4 months now. I feel like a zombie. My mood swings are so bad, and I get extremely irritated over nothing. I start fights with my fiancé for no reason, and I have zero sex drive. I struggle being in social situations because I feel like I’m just going through the motions. I get married in 3 months, and I don’t even feel excited, I don’t feel emotion about anything. It has made me feel like a completely different person, so I’m quitting hormonal birth control entirely. I know people have had good experiences with this birth control, and that’s wonderful, but it just isn’t worth the depression it has caused me."

For Birth Control "My experience is similar to everyone else's. I was on Gianvi for years, but then my pharmacy switched me to Nikki. I’ve been on it 3-4 months now, and I’m happy to say I’m never going back. I became a lunatic on Nikki - strong mood swings, emotional, crying. I’ve been retaining water, and worst of all, my acne is horrible. I had bad acne as a teenager, but when I went on Gianvi, it went away. Now, on Nikki, I can count on having at least 6 cystic pimples on my cheeks (I’ve never broken out on my cheeks before) at any given point in time. Not a good substitute."

For Acne "Originally was put on Nikki for acne. I had breakouts the first month or two, but by month five, my skin was clearer than it had been in years, with only breakouts before my period. However, I did experience a lot of headaches and really intense mood swings to the point I was crying pretty much every day. I have a history of depression and anxiety, and they both went sky-high while on Nikki. I also was nauseous and had stomach issues while on it, along with period-like cramping throughout the month. I liked how my skin reacted, but with the increased risk of clots and all the side effects, it wasn’t worth it for me."

For Birth Control "I’ve only been on Nikki for two weeks and already experiencing a lot of uncomfortable side effects. The first and most noticeable was breast pain. Nikki has also caused severe bloating, water retention, depression, no sex drive, and mood swings. I don’t like how I’ve felt since being on this pill, so I’m going to stop taking it. I would rather have my periods and normal PMS symptoms, as annoying as they are, than take this with all the side effects and not feel normal. The artificial hormones don’t work well for everyone. Another note: birth control can severely deplete your body of vital vitamins, such as vitamin B. My sister was told her vitamin B levels were really low, causing low energy and chronic fatigue. The doctor didn’t even tell her it was a common side effect of the birth control, they just wanted to prescribe something else—do your research, ladies!"

For Birth Control "I started out taking Nikki after switching from a higher dose because I had bad mood swings. So we lowered it. I now have this weird feeling on my left boob. I've had it for two months now. It comes and goes. Not sure what it is. I have an appointment coming up, so I'm bringing it to her attention and possibly changing."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I'd been taking Gianvi for 4 years, and I loved it. But I was forced to switch to Nikki last year since all of the pharmacies where I live stopped carrying Gianvi, and I'm not happy. It does fine at regulating my cycle but does not help with my cramps (I have endometriosis, though, so take that into consideration). It also does a pretty good job keeping my PMDD under control, but I'm also taking an antidepressant, so that works against my depressive mood swings as well. It's not great with preventing acne, I've been getting a lot of hormonal cystic acne. However, my big complaint is that I have been getting frequent intense headaches and menstrual migraines since I started Nikki. I can live with cramps, mood swings, and acne, but these headaches put me out of commission, and it's interrupting my life. However, because of my PMDD, I have to be on this specific pill, and I can't afford name brand. My advice is to avoid this pill if you can, especially if you're switching from another BC."

For Acne "I've been on many different birth controls before, but I decided to try this to treat my adult acne. I took it for 3 months, and it was the craziest experience next to the Mirena IUD! I had crazy mood swings, cried a lot, and my libido went from 10 to 0! I didn't even want to have sex because it made me not care for it at all! The only benefit was that my acne did clear up. I got off of it and am now on spironolactone for the next month. If nothing happens, then I'm going back to using Accutane (isotretinoin)."

For Birth Control "I was switched over to Nikki because my insurance covered all of it, and I’m here for free birth control. But I would rather pay the $30 for my old birth control than get this for free. After switching, my mood swings became noticeably worse, and my acne started acting up. I’m currently on my period on this brand, and NOTHING is better. Birth control typically makes my period lighter and a lot easier to deal with, but my cramps are as bad as they are without the pill, and I’m throwing up and have diarrhea, which is normal for me when I’m not even on the pill. So all in all, I’m just disappointed that I don’t feel any better, my acne came back, I’m way more emotional, and my period is horrible."

For Birth Control "Terrible. I’ve been on this pill for 3 months. I’ve only had about 1 week cumulative in those three months where I wasn’t spotting or bleeding. Terrible mood swings and depression. Extremely painful periods. I did not get pregnant, which means it did its job, but honestly, there weren’t many occasions where there was a risk of getting pregnant, lol. With constant heavy periods and cramping, there was hardly any desire to have sex. Worst birth control I’ve ever tried."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "Was prescribed Yaz, insurance gave Nikki. Always try to be educated with what I'm taking. Reviews were a little intimidating, and despite being more negative than positive, decided to try for myself. By the second day, started breaking out with cystic acne and extremely emotional. Crying, agitated, and depressed by day 7. (Didn't have acne prior.) Talked to the prescribing doctor and stopped after day 8. Despite reading possible side effects, nothing could prepare me for how quick and hard they hit. Not a good fit for me personally. Feel like Nikki should give a better warning about how extreme things can be beforehand."

For Birth Control "This medication is horrible. I had been taking Vestura for over a year and had no problems, but my pharmacy randomly switched me to Nikki, and it was awful. I have had terrible mood swings, and my acne has gotten significantly worse. I went from having a pimple occasionally to my entire forehead and chin being constantly broken out from the time I started taking this medication. I do not recommend taking Nikki. I was only on it for a month and switched immediately."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "Just started my second month of Nikki. So far, I feel like my PMS symptoms have gotten worse. My breasts were sore for the first month, now they are fine. My hot flashes and mood swings before and during my period also seemed a lot worse. My depression has seemed to be more severe as well. But it is also the start of fall, and I have more seasonal depression. So, with this being said, I don’t know if it’s the pill making it worse or just my normal seasonal depression. I’m hoping my body just needs to adjust to the pill. I will give it three months and update again. Hopefully positive!"

For Birth Control "I wanted Nikki to work for me, I really did. The first month or two was great. No acne, no weight gain, nothing. Then, about three months in, I had maybe one good week out of the month. After that, I was emotional, depressed, and having suicidal thoughts daily. Headaches and breast soreness/swelling started, as well as other fluid retention. I do appreciate that it still never caused weight gain or acne, if I wasn't so emotional, I would have kept taking it. Everyone is different, so maybe it won't make you emotional."

For Birth Control "I don't ever write reviews, but I had to share my experience with this birth control. This is my first time getting back on birth control in almost 2 years, and a doctor prescribed me Nikki. I typically have pretty clear skin, about one or two small pimples here and there, but within 3 days of me taking Nikki, I ended up with two pimples on my back and three on my face. Within 4 days of taking Nikki, I also started to experience mood swings and depression. The emotional side effects from this birth control are not worth taking whatsoever. I found myself to be more irritable and emotional for the most ridiculous reasons, and that isn't me. I was on it for only 11 days, and it was the worst birth control experience I've ever had. Please save yourself the time and pay a higher price for a better birth control."

For Birth Control "So, I got on Nikki because my periods have always been irregular. I was on a low-dose birth control before, but it didn’t work at regulating my periods, so I went and switched. Well, I’ve been on Nikki for about three and a half weeks, and I had to stop taking it. It made me extremely emotional. I have been either crying or super angry for the time I’ve been on Nikki, which is NOT common for me at all. On top of it, I had gallbladder pain for about four days. I did not experience any cystic acne, and I am not sure how this birth control would have worked for my period. I just could not take it anymore due to the feelings it was causing me."

"Nikki contraceptive pill is truly terrible. I usually take Loryna or Yaz, but Nikki was available for much cheaper and was supposed to be the same, according to the pharmacy. It wasn't for me. I only took the pills for about a week and experienced mood swings, paranoia, and breakthrough bleeding. I went back to the pharmacy and ended up paying full price for Yaz just to try to get back to normal. Although the mood swings have stopped, I have now been on my period for two weeks, so I have no idea how long it will take to fully recover from the awful effects of Nikki."
