Doxycycline for Acne "Doxy is amazing. If you stick to it for a while, you will see results like you've never dreamed of. My skin looks GREAT, and people compliment it all of the time. I hope it stays like this when I finish the last pill in 3 days. I took 100 mg 2x a day for 3 months. Only drawback is the horrible nausea and vomiting I experienced when I didn't take it after or with a meal."

For Lyme Disease "It's probably helping the spot on my leg, but it's making me feel worse in every other aspect. Vague headaches, brain fog, an uptick in the volatility of past mental health issues, diarrhea, cramps, nausea, vomiting, I've got it all. This is making me so miserable I'd rather they just cut off my leg than make me keep taking this. 100 mg twice a day for 10 days, it's been a week. When I feel good, I feel great, but when I don't, I'm in hell. I wake up gagging. Vile, foul stuff."

For Chlamydia Infection "On first day out of 10, I took with water, vomited 3 times, and lots of nausea. I suggest you grab some saltines and ginger beer beforehand to prepare yourself for the nausea. Can't wait to see my reaction tomorrow."

For Malaria "I am taking it daily as a preventive for malaria and just started. Definitely needs to be taken with food or you will become violently ill, including vomiting. Within 30 minutes of taking it, nausea and stuffy nose occur. The nausea symptoms last for an hour, the stuffy nose a little longer and disappears after 3 hours. I expect to be out of the country for the next 4-5 years, and I am not looking forward to taking this on a daily basis."

Doxycycline for Acne "This medicine is great. I just started developing acne 2 years ago (I'm 26). I tried everything from eating raw/clean, eliminating dairy, drinking more H2O... and all of the other 'free yourself of acne myths.' I hate being on medicine. I'm a very live natural person. I did a lot of research on this after my dermatologist prescribed it to me. It seems to not have any long-term side effects. I learned quickly, within the first 2 weeks of taking it, you have to take it with food starting out. I would throw up otherwise. But when you get used to it, it's fine. I also made the mistake of having 1 beer with it when I first started taking it. Definitely puked after that. Anyway, my skin cleared up IMMEDIATELY. Like 2 weeks after I started it!"

For Acne "I'm an African American female, 20-year-old female, and I've had acne since high school. Recently, this summer, I was prescribed doxycycline 150 mg to take once a day. Originally, the summer before, I was prescribed another formula of doxycycline to take twice daily. I took two pills at once by accident, and about 45 minutes later, I threw up. Even though I didn't take the correct dose, I could still tell this pill was not going to sit well in my stomach. The formula (150 mg) I am taking now is much better. It was a struggle hanging in there for the first month because my body had to get used to it. But I did. I advise eating with food or on a full stomach. Hang in there. I'm waiting on my second refill. Definitely see results."

For Rosacea "I'll start out by saying that I have “the worst case of rosacea” my doctor has ever seen, like, she took pictures of my face. So if this works, it will be a miracle. I tried doxy about a year ago but didn’t have the money to pay for it after 4 weeks. There was a little bit of improvement, but nothing major. She put me on it again about a week ago, so we will see. I do know that if I take it on an empty stomach, I will throw up."

For Bronchitis "Took after 8 days of doxycycline for an unrelenting chest cough. Caused stomach pain, vomiting, throbbing head, and nausea. I finally checked my blood pressure, and it had spiked to 185/125, a hypertensive emergency that could cause stroke and organ damage. This is a terrible medication to prescribe!!"

For Chlamydia Infection "I was prescribed doxy for 1 week, twice a day. Currently on day 6, and all symptoms are gone. I only had excessive discharge and a weird smell. Just eat before you take the medicine, took on an empty stomach and threw up twice. Drink lots of water while on this medication, and eat a lot as well."

For Acne "I am about one week in (100 mg twice a day), and I think I am in the purging period. All of the closed comedones (aka texture) on my forehead have started to come out as whiteheads, and the pre-existing whiteheads seem to be getting worse. I really hope this will be over soon, but I am hopeful it will work! I'm sure it is just the course that the drug is taking on my body. On the bright side, though, all of the acne on my chest and back is gone since taking it! For context, I am also using a Retin A cream and Clindamycin Phosphate gel."

For Acne "It was awful. It was fine for the first week, and then on the 7th day I took it, I threw up so much, and same with the 8th. I noticed no change in my acne, but that's probably because I can't take the medication without throwing it up."

For Bronchitis "I was prescribed doxycycline 100 mg, 2 a day for 10 days after struggling with a persistent cough that was going on for 2 months. Within 2 days, my cough was non-existent, and I finally had a full night of sleep. Then came the problems. On the 3rd day, I hadn’t eaten breakfast before taking my morning dose. I was sent home from work after vomiting it up. That night, I took it on a full stomach and had no problem. On the 5th day (today), it was really hot outside. Walking into work with jeans and a T-shirt, I felt like the UV rays were penetrating my clothes. After work, I got in the pool but couldn’t stand it after 30 minutes. My skin was burning so badly. Photosensitivity is a side effect, it seems. The 3rd strike was my throat starting to feel raw a few days ago, back around my tonsils and far back top of my mouth around sinuses and uvula. It is slightly red too. It isn’t a typical sore or swollen throat. It’s just raw and hurts. So I’m done with these antibiotics."

For Acne "I was given this medicine for mild to moderate, superficial acne. I stopped taking it after three months because I hated the side effects - vomiting, stomach pain, and I got an ulcer in my esophagus at one point. It helped my skin for a while and quite quickly. It wasn’t completely clear, but I could look in the mirror without crying. However, when I stopped taking it, my acne got worse. It had never been as bad as when I came off the medicine. Also, any time I missed a single dose, my skin would get a little bit worse. I feel like I’d need to take this forever for it to make my skin bearable, so it’s not very good."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Took doxy for 8 months after a round of IV antibiotics for 8 weeks after a bad prosthetic joint infection. I didn’t really have much problem with it that time, except for bad sun sensitivity, I would burn quickly. After the 8 months, my infectious disease (ID) doctor said it was clear to stop it. Well, 10 days after stopping it, I was in the ER with sepsis in my hip. Long story short, after being in the hospital for a while and another 6 weeks of IV antibiotics, I was put back on doxycycline. Again, this time I will be on it or an equivalent for life. But this round of it has made me very nauseous, bloated, and vomit easily. Tried everything I can think of doing for the sickness. Dramamine helps, though. Still, for me, I can’t stop it for now, hopefully, I can get the ID doctor to prescribe something easier on me, if there is. But it’s better than the alternative."

For Lyme Disease, Neurologic "It was prescribed when my doctor confirmed on 2 tests from the 2 hospitals that I went to for my symptoms. I was prescribed 90 days. I couldn't even keep water down. I threw up several times a day. I was losing more liquid than taking in. I had to stop after 2 weeks of taking it, leading me, unfortunately, to irreversible damage, most likely. My heart palpitates. My joints swell like a 60+ year old (I'm 33), especially when the temp is very low or the barometric pressure is high. I have chronic fatigue and many memory issues..."

For Acne "I have had cystic acne since I was 18. It became horrible when I turned 22. I started taking doxy last May after my acne kept coming back worse than before. I was on tetracycline when I was 18, and it went away. But this time around, the acne is on a vengeance, horribly scarring me. If I miss one dose of this medicine, I will get a pimple. I am resistant to basically everything under this doxy. I am on 500 mg twice a day. It works in due time, but recently I will get sick from taking it and vomit. It doesn't matter at the moment if I eat or not with it. It's sporadic. It's a love-hate with this medicine. But if you want clear skin, it's worth it!"

For Acne "I just started taking this antibiotic-100 mg twice per day. The side effects are crazy intense! I took it without food, and within 20 minutes, was severely vomiting, very tired, out of it, and confused. I went to the ER, and they told me to just take it again with food. So I did, and no vomiting or stomach cramps this time, but still feel tired and kind of out of it. Hopefully, my body can get used to this."

For Chlamydia Infection "I decided to research randomly, and I’m not liking the reviews, so I decided to share a positive one for those with anxiety. I’ve tried this for a week months ago, twice daily, 100 mg dosage, 7 days worked just fine for me. I had nausea the 3rd time taking the pill on day 2 due to not eating before taking it, but didn’t actually vomit. The 4th time taking it, I vomited due to, once again, not eating, and after that, I knew for sure not eating is what caused that specific side effect, as the 1st day the pill went down smooth with no nausea after taking it directly after eating. I had no side effects other than the nausea and vomiting due to not eating before taking the pill, but every day after that, I continued treatment, taking the pill after eating and never experienced another episode of nausea and vomiting. So, in conclusion, don’t let ALL the bad reviews scare you, I had no BAD reactions to this antibiotic. Cleared my STI just fine."

For Malaria Prevention "Came to Tanzania to teach for the month of May this year and was given doxy as malaria prevention. Was sick as a dog for my full month there, couldn't eat much, sinus headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chills, spent most of my time not teaching, lying in my room feeling sorry for myself... Just came to Tanzania again and forgot to start my doxy before arriving, the first morning I took it, the cramps started again, the diarrhea and fever chills. I'm glad I made the connection and looked the side effects up! Stopping this medication immediately."

For Acne "I've been using Clindamycin in the mornings and Atralin at night for nearly two months with very minimal results. I started taking Doxy about 3 days ago, and my skin has dramatically improved. No more new breakouts, just healing acne. The only reason I give it 8/10 is because I haven't finished my 30-day cycle. Haven't experienced any nausea or vomiting, just a minor stomach ache if I don't eat enough with the pill in the morning."

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "I took this doxycycline for PID. Always, always, always take this antibiotic after or while eating a meal. If you don’t, you’ll become very nauseous, possibly vomit. I felt very sick the entire time I took it. I barely had an appetite, but I had to force myself to eat so I wouldn’t vomit from the medication. This antibiotic also affected my awareness. I felt like I was high the whole time I took it. Everything felt fuzzy, I had a poor memory."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I will never, ever take this medication again. When I took my very first pill, it caused me to throw up within a matter of minutes. I called the doctor, and they told me to try it again in the morning, and if I still threw up, then to call them back. So I tried it again in the morning, and this time I didn't throw up, but I became extremely nauseous and nearly threw up, so I called the doctor back. They ended up prescribing a different medicine for me. I also didn't like the fact that I had to wait 2 hours after taking vitamins and minerals and so many hours before taking certain kinds of stomach medicine. I am prescribed both vitamins and minerals as well as stomach medicines, so this made taking the doxycycline quite a burden."

For Acne "Been taking doxycycline for six months for my skin. Doxy gets a big 8 stars out of 10. Miracle pill. My complexion only cleared through perseverance. It became worse before the skin started to change. Four times I contemplated stopping the med. Don't give up and stay consistent with doses. 100 mg AM and PM. I would eat 1 hour before a dose and eat 2 hours after one. Got sick 5 times. I could get away with 5 saltine crackers without vomiting. Tried to get full absorption of meds with the least amount of food. Fully recommend doxycycline. Also apply clindamycin ointment in the AM and metronidazole cream in the PM. Good luck and don't surrender."

Doxycycline for Acne "Well, well, well... so I started this product a little over a month ago, and I'll tell you first because I wish someone would have told me. For the ladies, it is an antibacterial drug, so you most likely will have a yeast infection! Lol, so that's first. Next, this is for men and women. If not taken on a full stomach, you will throw up! And last but definitely not least, it will break you out even more, like severely more, but I heard that that's a good thing. It's supposed to get all the bacteria from the inside and push it out, and then your face will get better, and that seems to be happening to me. I get a few pimples here and there, but nothing like I used to get. Hopefully, after my 30-day supply is gone, I'll be able to stay off it."
