"Doxycycline worked well to help with my pneumonia. On the first day when I took it on an empty stomach, I felt fine, but as the next few days went by, I had some intense nausea, a mean headache, severe stomach pain, and I even vomited water back up along with mucus. I mean, it works, but I mean, with some of the side effects, it makes you wonder if it's really worth taking this specific medicine. I would seriously recommend eating when you take this medicine."

"Was prescribed for pneumonia, followed directions, no missed doses. After the first and second pill, still felt sick. From day three on, the sick feeling was much weaker, but massively fatigued. After ten days, I am more fatigued than before I started doxycycline and still congested. Last time, amoxicillin took away all symptoms in 4 days, and it's cheaper, with just upset stomach and nausea as symptoms."

"Been having doxycycline for a chest infection, unclear what type. Two capsules on the first day and 1 a day for 6 days. On my last day today, no improvements as of yet. Lungs feel they could be getting thicker and harder to cough up."

"I am on my first day of using doxycycline, and after the second dosage, I started to feel the improvement of my bacterial pneumonia. Please eat before taking the medication. Yes, it will make you nauseous, yes, it will give you headaches, the cons of taking a strong antibiotic. Drink a full glass (8 oz) of water when you take it. Avoid dairy foods for about 3-4 hours after taking it. Also, take a probiotic 4 hours after taking the doxy, you don't want it to kill off the good bacteria you have. And a MUST, FINISH THE COURSE. You can't expect it to work wonders right away."

"I was prescribed doxy for pneumonia, and it has been 3 days, and I'm starting to feel a lot better already. The only symptoms I've experienced are fatigue and a mild headache, which I'm not sure is related to the doxy. Although I do get a little tired about 30 minutes after my doses, and this lasts for the first 3-4 days, it really does help so well. Symptoms are similar to the antibiotic Keflex, which is very tolerable, but I've never had an upset stomach or nausea. I usually eat a little before taking my medication. It's advised not to eat foods with calcium/milk and to be sure to drink with at least 8 ounces of water. It works well for me! :)"

"On day 6, missed no doses, followed directions, though it made me so nauseous I've had to eat something first. My cough seems to be worse, and wheezing is worse. Previous doctor, when I had the same thing, prescribed something different...a combo of two pills that worked great. This, for me, is definitely not."

"I was told I had atypical pneumonia. After azithromycin, it didn't completely clear up my lung. So the doctor prescribed broad spectrum - doxycycline. This really upsets my stomach, which I never experienced with other antibiotics before. I had to take crackers before this medicine. Otherwise, I would throw up (did once when I took it with an empty stomach). After 14 days, I didn't feel completely free of germs. Five days after finishing the last dose, I started with a sore throat again."

"I was diagnosed with pneumonia 9 days ago. Started out on Azithromycin but was not feeling better after 4 days, so the doctor told me to finish that (only had 1 more pill) and then start Doxycycline 100 mg 2x per day for 7 days. Started to feel better, then got worse again. I have missed an entire week of work, today makes the 6th day I have missed. I am a substitute nurse at an elementary school, so I don't get paid if I don't work. (I am on a long-term assignment working full-time right now.) I haven't had pneumonia in over 10 years. Never had a case this bad. Going back to the doctor today to get a chest x-ray. As a nurse, I am very diligent about washing my hands and using preventative measures to stay healthy. Most likely caught a bug at work."

"Went to the ER 11 days ago because of extreme weakness and shortness of breath. After a CT scan with contrast, they told me I had pneumonia in both lungs. I thought, great, they can get this cleared up. My prescription was doxycycline hyclate 100 mg twice daily. During the day, I had no problems taking it, I haven’t slept more than an hour to an hour and a half straight for the last 10 nights. After 10 days, I still have shortness of breath, my oxygen is only 86-90 on a pulse oximeter, and I still run a fever of over 101. Not sure what my options are now."

"Back in Sept 2019, I was told I had pneumonia, they saw it viewing my shoulder x-ray. I was in shock. I wasn't sick at all. My doctor put me on doxycycline hyclate twice daily. After 5 full days, I awoke at midnight, my body was jerking and shaking. I spiked a fever of 103. Went the next day to the doctor, said I was resistant to it. I've taken that throughout the years on many occasions. Got sick again upper respiratory, after 6 days, it was getting worse once again. Doxycycline had to change."

"I was diagnosed with atypical pneumonia and was prescribed 100 mg twice a day. Has not been helping. Still has a cough and chest pain plus fatigue. Another doc plus ER prescribed steroids, prednisone 40 mg a day, which works better but an instant weight gain of 10 pounds at least in a week. Feeling hopeless."

"I was diagnosed with atypical pneumonia. They put me on doxycycline, 1 pill twice a day, for nine days. I still haven't noticed a change. When I got to the tenth day, I took an amoxicillin pill that I had left over from before and noticed a change within a few hours. Wish I had more!"

"The bad news is this is my third bout of pneumonia. My other two bouts, which were exactly 10 years apart, had me hospitalized. Now, 10 years later, here I go again. The doctor, the nurse, and the pharmacist were adamant regarding what not to take with it and how to take it. I'm just starting out, and I'm on my second dose. I'll have to admit, I feel much better than I did two days ago. I've been taking mine with an ice cream sandwich bar."

"I usually have a reaction with antibiotics, but I can honestly say this antibiotic gave me the least side effects. I normally have side effects of severe nausea, burning stomach pains, extreme fatigue. I was very ill when I started it, and within 3 days, I could feel it working. I am on day 4 now of it, and the difference I feel comparing to the first day is colossal. I would recommend this drug as I am very impressed with it."

"On Day 3 of a 7-day course at 1 tablet per day, feeling better but have major coughing fits. Toilet experience is shocking, like I have been eating Mexican or Indian food, very painful. Energy okay, no wheeze, but this random cough."

"I've been taking Doxycycline for 4 days and am noticing a difference. I'm starting to feel like I'm healing. I still have no energy and I'm still sick, so I'm on constant bed rest. Yesterday, I started hearing voices and today I'm hearing musical instruments playing, but the TV isn't on and there's no music playing either. It's not scary because I know it's not real. This happened to me before about a year ago when I took Doxycycline for Interstitial Cystitis, and I was hearing people calling my name into my ear while I was laying in bed. Again, if it happens to you, as long as you tell yourself it's not real, then it really isn't a scary experience. I really think it's a side effect because it only happens when I take the Doxy."

"Got pneumonia after a surgery and was prescribed Doxy 100 mg 2 x daily. Did everything I was supposed to. By day 4, I was experiencing a mild headache, what felt like sinus pressure, but by day 6, a full-on drunk feeling. Very dizzy and hard to focus. I feel like my infection is gone, but was directed to stop the antibiotic because of side effects."

"Before Xmas, contracted a lung infection. The first doctor prescribed Amoxicillin, not effective, the second doctor prescribed Doxy, and at first, it started to improve, but the infection has increased according to the latest CT scan. Doctor has not prescribed another antibiotic."

"Was taking Augmentin for 4 days and got worse and have been on Doxy for 2 days, not doing much better. I cannot tolerate it. I have only kept it down one time, and I'm taking anti-nausea medicine with it also. I am unsure what to do now since the doctor said to keep taking it."

"Was prescribed doxycycline Hyclate. The first day I took it as prescribed, no food. Made me feel sicker, vomited, felt tired, had to lay down for 1 hour. I did this a second day, then said, well let me try it with something light on my stomach (cracker, soup, or half a piece of wheat bread). Did this for 3 days, felt worse and worse, started losing my appetite. Fatigue was at a high, cough was terrible to where each cough I was urinating a bit. I just felt bad. My family took me back to the ER, doctor checked me. She said it sounded like it was clearing up, didn't want to do another X-ray due to too much radiation. Changed my meds to azithromycin 250. Started today taking 2 tablets 1st day, then 1 tablet each day 'til gone. I feel good, and I took on an empty stomach."

"I am taking doxycycline and a Predi-Pak, but on the 3rd full day, I noticed my face (like a butterfly rash) and upper chest with redness and itching. My chest feels vibrating and slight heaviness (more so since taking the meds, or could be the prednisone). I have called the doctor and left a message. I am drinking a lot of water and taking Vitamin C. I also took a Benadryl 25 mg. I am awaiting my doctor to call back. Perhaps it is the combination of the two-in my body's chemistry."

"Seemed to work at first, but then about two weeks later (still taking it), I’m starting to feel the bubbling in my lungs again. On top of that, I got weird blisters I never seen before in my entire life on my hand, my throat was so sore I could hardly swallow. It stopped once I stopped taking the medication, I took all except one. It does cause nausea, which I remedied by eating a lot of food and drinking water back to back, but after an hour of taking it, I would feel hot and dizzy and anxious and have a weird shortness of breath, like I forgot how to breathe. I’m just going to put this medication down as an allergy. Never taking it again, may need to be on another antibiotic because I don’t think my pneumonia has cleared."

"This medicine is foul, never felt so bad on it, nausea, throwing up, no appetite, headache, increased heartbeat, cough, shortness of breath. Once this med was stopped, I started to feel much better. If you are offered this, DO NOT take it, you'll feel 200% worse for it."

"I had bacterial pneumonia, and after four days of suffering, I was prescribed doxycycline 100 mg twice daily. After two days, the blocked and runny nose, coughing, and sneezing greatly reduced, and I started to feel much better overall. I am getting better day by day. I have lost my sense of taste and smell, which still hasn't come back. You need to finish the entire course to get the full benefits, even if you feel better. Do not take it on an empty stomach or immediately before eating, as it could make you feel sick or vomit. Also, do not immediately lie down after taking it."
