Doxycycline "I am 16 years old, and my acne has been a problem for a little over 6 months. I was previously on Acticlate for about 2 months, which did not help my skin much and had terrible side effects like vomiting. My dermatologist switched me to Oracea 40 mg, and I was hopeful. The first week on it, my skin became so much worse, and I wanted to get off of it. However, after that first week, my skin began to clear up and now only has a few red spots. This medication works great, you just have to push through the first week and remember that things get worse before they get better. I also love Oracea because it has no side effects on me, which is great."

"I have been taking Efracea (the UK name for Oracea, I believe) for nearly two weeks now. I would say that for the first 7-10 days, my skin was somewhat worse: it was aggravated in that there seemed to be more spots, more obvious red rashy pimples/whiteheads, but now at day 12, there is finally a definite improvement. It seemed during the first 7-10 days like the medicine was 'forcing out toxins' - I know that's not science, but that is how I would describe it. The redness is now reduced. The spots and bumps have gradually shrunken and reduced. My skin feels smoother when I run my fingers over it and looks smoother in the mirror. This is all over my face. My face looks less puffy. I can't believe the improvement. No side effects for me."

Doxycycline "I was diagnosed with rosacea a year ago and was in terrible shape. My rheumatologist (for lupus and fibromyalgia) recommended I see a dermatologist because he believed I had rosacea. I thought I was just having a recurrence of terrible acne. My dermatologist diagnosed the rosacea and put me on Oracea. Incredible. I cleared it completely in just a matter of weeks and have had no recurrence. I am amazed and delighted."

Doxycycline "I was on regular doxy for several months for my rosacea (bumps and redness). Oral antibiotics are the only thing that have helped my skin look more normal. My dermatologist has switched me over to the generic Oracea (a couple of times actually). It seems to help my skin (not perfect, but pretty good), however, I get totally bloated on this medicine, and I've definitely been gaining weight, primarily fat. This wasn't really the case with regular doxy, but the Oracea always seems to have this effect. I will have to exercise more and adjust my diet if I'm going to stay on this stuff... So, I'm giving it an 8/10 since it helps my skin, but I'm not happy with the weight/fat gain and bloating."

"I took doxycycline for close to 6 months, and I found it worked great for my rosacea condition. It cleared up my red skin, and I was back to having a normal face again. But after I stopped it for 4 months, the redness and all those bumps were back again. So I have to resort to taking the antibiotics again. One thing I realized for this antibiotic is that it makes your face very, very sensitive to the lights and sun after prolonged use of taking it, this is one of the downsides of this antibiotic. Other than that, it is great."

Doxycycline "My doctor gave me a coupon card that keeps the prescription at $25.00 with my insurance. I have been taking Oracea for two years for my rosacea. It works great! The only problem now is that after all this time of using Oracea, I have developed a constant stomach ache. This is one of the side effects, and I am really bummed out about it. I have not stopped using Oracea. Not sure what the alternative will be."

Doxycycline "Since I have used this medication so long, years and years, I believe it has improved my rosacea. I'm not willing to stop taking Oracea to find out. As far as the stomach ache associated with this pill, I found that taking it at night prevents the stomach upset symptoms. One review mentioned burning on the lips and tongue, I have experienced this side effect very, very much. However, I didn't realize this pill may be the reason. Again, if this pill causes the lips, mouth area, and tongue to have a burning sensation, I'm not sure I would stop taking the Oracea, although that is one terrible side effect. Overall, I will continue taking Oracea."

Doxycycline "I developed rosacea when I was pregnant with my first child (at age 39). I never had skin issues before, even as a teenager. I finally went to the doctor and was diagnosed with papulopustular rosacea (acne plus redness). My doctor prescribed Monodox, and it has worked wonders! Within a week, almost all the pimples/bumps were gone. Gone! I only hope that once I finish up the medication (60 days), it won't all come back. The downside is the cost. Thankfully, my doctor gave me a discount card from the manufacturer that allows me to buy it for $10 per month. Otherwise, it was $225 for a 60-day supply."

Doxycycline "Oracea has some side effects that you have to work through, and you have to be careful about what you use and eat with it because of its reactions. But, honestly, it is worth whatever effort you put into it. It cleared all my redness in 3 days. I was told not to expect it to work like this for (at most) 6 months, but it cleared up amazingly. It might not work so incredibly for you, but if you have mild to moderate rosacea, I expect that it will."

"I'm 36 years old and have been dealing with rosacea (papulopustular type) for about 3 years. I did not want to take antibiotics but was desperate to find something that worked. I started the doxycycline 3 weeks ago, and it has almost completely stopped any new bumps from forming. My cheeks are much smoother and less inflamed. I'm really pleased with the results so far. I still have a few spots that are still healing and fading from before I started the doxy, but there are no new spots. I still flush at times and have some redness, but I'm just glad the bumps are so much less. The only bad side effect I'm noticing is that my skin seems much more sensitive to the sun, my nose seems to be getting sunburned in a way that it never has before. I'll just have to be mindful of using sunblock on my face daily. I also have noticed my lips seem a bit chapped, not sure if this is due to the doxy or not. I have not had any GI problems. I have been taking a probiotic and eating yogurt daily."

Doxycycline "I started using Oracea along with Metrogel 2 weeks ago, and I've already noticed a significant difference. The little bumps that were all over my cheeks and forehead are almost all gone. My skin is so clear now, and I've received numerous compliments on it. I plan to continue using it, and hopefully with continued results. I would recommend this to anyone suffering from the embarrassing effects of rosacea."

"I was 49, and I still believe it's an internal issue as I was on doxycycline 50 mg, twice a day with Soolantra at night (thin application). I decided to try and wean off my treatment, that lasted about a week, and the pimples and pustules came right back, and so did the redness. I went back to my laser doctor and did 2 sessions of Excel V beam and 50 mg of doxycycline 2 times a day, Soolantra at night, added eating raw sauerkraut almost daily for the massive amounts of probiotics and mega vitamin C from fermented cabbage for my gut flora. I gave up excess sugar completely (cookies, muffins, etc.), gave up alcohol too, 100%. I am taking Rosadyn also. I am not endorsing, just saying. One full month with no pimples and pustules, no redness, skin texture much better. Good luck."

Doxycycline "Doryx is the only medicine that can clear up my rosacea outbreaks now. Oracea can help a little bit, but my problem areas keep reappearing when I'm on that pill. (The facial creams used to work on me when I was younger, but once I became diabetic, the creams did not help.)"

"I posted in June after starting Doxy for the first time. This medicine has helped clear up my skin very, very well. It has helped give me my confidence back, as my face was so bad. I didn't want to go out. Metrogel and Finacea were far too harsh for my skin, so I will never use them again. (I was put on these by a dermatologist.) I am on a second course of slow-release Doxy for another two months, as a few stubborn, deep, but now very small bumps were still there, but my skin was bad. I am fortunate that in the UK, the prescriptions are very affordable. I feel for people who can't afford to pay the big prices in other countries. I would recommend Doxy. I did research before visiting my doctor and asked for this medicine."

"I used to have a rosacea problem. Doctor told me he would prescribe doxycycline. I took 1 capsule daily until it was all gone, but it still doesn't help much. Then I searched on the internet and found a Chinese herb, centella asiatica (gotu kola). I crushed and applied it on my face. Within one time using it, I can see a lot of improvement. The blood vessels, irritated eyes and skin, swelling, and redness bumps like acne reduced obviously. Then I applied it 4-5 times a day. Within 3-4 days, all those problems disappeared. Believe me. You can search the benefits of that herb first. It worked for me."

"I was prescribed doxycycline 50 mg once a day a few years ago for rosacea. My nose was red and ruddy with p&p's, flaky, stingy, you name it. I was on and off the doxy because it really wasn't helping, but I thought my problem had to do with a compromised immune system since I wasn't born with rosacea. I developed symptoms about 6 years ago at age 49, so I was sure it was an internal issue. I have been to 3 dermatologists and 2 laser specialists since I started with symptoms, dozens of online miracle cures too, and no improvement to speak of. One month ago, I went to another dermatologist and was prescribed 50 mg doxy TWICE a day along with Soolantra, which I also had tried but to no avail until now. I have been basically p&p free, redness 50%."

"I had reached a point where my severe rosacea was extremely painful. I had contacted my doctor and begged for a prescription for amoxicillin. That was an antibiotic I was on for another condition and cleared up my rosacea for a couple of weeks. The doctor said doxycycline would be better for my acne. I had not known at the time that what I was suffering from was severe rosacea. My derm at the time diagnosed me with severe cystic acne. After 1 year of trial and error with numerous antibiotics, she put me on isotretinoin (sp). I took Claravis, approx 80 mg for 10 months. After being on a 2-week course of doxy, my face has been clear for 11 months now."

"Been taking doxycycline for about 6 weeks, 2 x 50 mg tabs daily. Definitely seen improvement in my rosacea, inflammation to face and eyes decreased quite significantly. Was taking oxytetracycline prior to this, which was less effective."

"Only a few weeks into my 100 mg doxycycline 90-day supply, and it's making a HUGE difference. I would say 99% of my rosacea has cleared up, and there's just a little bit of redness still lingering. I wish I had gotten this stuff sooner, it's a massive help. I'm using this drug in combination with over-the-counter topical azelaic acid, which is likely helping as well. Always make sure you eat something before taking this medicine, it will upset your stomach if you don't."

Doxycycline "Been taking Oracea in July and August (8 weeks), and it worked really well, but now, 1 month without, the rosacea is beginning to come back. Hoped for a longer remission, but it is still better than before so far. Had a bit of stress (max trigger), so maybe that's why. Next time I will try taking Oracea without using metronidazole cream at the same time. I don't think my skin likes metronidazole. Best results are areas where I don't use the cream."

Doxycycline "I was diagnosed with acne rosacea in my 20s, my mom (is 86 and I am in my 60s) has it too. My eyes had always been bloodshot, which I attributed to my allergies, but this spring they were worse, and neither artificial tears nor Visine helped. In my dermatologist's waiting room, I read an article about ocular rosacea. When I asked the PA about it, I told her about my attempts to resolve my bloodshot eyes. She said likely it is ocular rosacea, and I have been on Oracea for just about a week. Eyes are not as bloodshot, but what frustrated me was, in the 40 years of seeing dermatologists, NONE had ever mentioned ocular rosacea to me. Thank God I read an article about it. This is a new derm to me (2nd visit ever) and the PA mentioned the redness on my face, which I thought was high blood pressure, and said the Oracea may work on all the symptoms."

"I'm 53 and have very bad rosacea. My derm put me on doxycycline 100 mg x2 a day. It cleared up my face great. She reduced the dosage to 50 mg x2 a day, everything was great until I started having joint problems. I never had that first joint problem before. I went off the med for a while, and rosacea came back with a vengeance. My doc told me to try the med again, and if the joint problem returned, she would take me off of the med for good. I did this, and all of my joints got very bad, so I stopped taking the drug. It's been 6 months, and my joints are still recovering. The med package said 1 in 6 will develop joint problems. I'm one of them. Now rosacea is bad, and I am bumming heavily."

Doxycycline "For context, I am a 21-year-old male with oily, bumpy, red skin. I began taking Oracea in June of 2017. For the first month, I noticed no change. After that, I began noticing improvement until about week 6 when I peaked in terms of how my skin looked and felt. For whatever reason, my skin went downhill ever since then. It has now been 6 months on Oracea, and my skin is only slightly better than when I was not taking Oracea, even though I also started Metrogel in September. It seems like Oracea works for some people, but it did not consistently work for me."

Doxycycline "I was just living with my rosacea but went to my ophthalmologist because of a chalazion (a cyst caused by a plugged oil duct on the inside of my upper eyelid). She performed a procedure in her office to drain the chalazion and prescribed Doxy to thin my oil secretions. In a day or two, little plugs of hard oil were actually coming out of my pores. My skin became clear and soft. The dryness in my eyes was gone. I too have dealt with the nausea but learned early on to eat some crackers or a small snack just before I take it. I took 2 - 100 mg tablets a day for 5 days (she called this a 'loading dose'), then 1 tablet per day after that. I would rate this medicine a 10 except that there are dietary and other drug restrictions going with it."

"I have rosacea triggered by heat/intense exercise. Went through 2 rounds of Accutane in college, which helped for a short while. Got reprieve through my late 20s/30s, then it came back in my 40s with exercise. Tried to treat it naturally for two months, then gave up and saw the dermatologist. Started the doxycycline, 1 pill 2 times a day, and my face, which had virtually every pore affected with a bump - and under-eye area affected, was almost completely clear in one week. After 2 weeks, I went down to one pill per day. On that dose, I get a couple bumps after working out, but they go away in a day instead of 3 weeks. Also do the metro gel and sulfur wash. Been a month now. A little heartburn/sour stomach after taking it, but excellent results."
