Dextroamphetamine for Narcolepsy "I was diagnosed with narcolepsy at the age of eight. I was taking a 5 mg tablet that handled my situation. I was able to be an outgoing, loving child. My body was managing medication without falling asleep at inappropriate times. I am now over 70, now taking 15 mg span one twice a day. I am able to function and maintain a high-profile professional position. The very worst part of this medication is the price. My parents were paying $5.00 for my medication. After marriage, I was paying a $15 co-pay, then went to a $35 co-pay, and now it’s $144. I think this is totally unfair and a ridiculous charge for this drug. However, I don’t have a choice because it works. I have taken other medications that caused hallucinations, inability to drive, heart palpitations, and feeling like I was on a high all the time, however, Dexedrine does not create a problem, not in the slightest. I do not experience dry mouth, jitters, hallucinations, heart palpitations, or any side effects with Dexedrine."

Dextroamphetamine for ADHD "This worked from the very second I started on it 5 years ago; Helped me focus like never before, although being someone with OCD who noticed most things anyway, this magnified it 10-fold. Gave a reserve of energy that helped even when tired. Only side effects were that you build up a tolerance rather quickly when it comes to the original effect, I began to grind my teeth as I slept, and had the worst dry mouth ever...could drink a gallon of water in 2 minutes and still have the driest mouth ever. Would recommend."

Dextroamphetamine for Narcolepsy "I've been taking Dexedrine spansules 15 mg, 2 pills at a time, 2-3 times a day for about 30 years for narcolepsy. I'm currently 57 years old. If it weren't for this Rx, I would probably never leave my house. Through the years, I have tried various alternative meds only to find they don't work as well. Among the alternatives tried are Adderall (made me actually violent); Provigil (absolutely ineffective); and Nuvigil was worse than ineffective...because it gave me the sensation of being high. So I thought it was working and I got behind the wheel of a car...bad idea. Changed back ASAP. Been on the same dosage for 20 years. Side effects: for 10 minutes every day, I get a bad dry mouth and feel anxious. Cost is prohibitive."

Dextroamphetamine for Narcolepsy "Along with narcolepsy, I've also been diagnosed with ADHD. I have been taking Dexedrine for the last 4 years. At first, it was 5 mg tablets, which worked for a couple of months. As soon as my dose was increased to 10 mg spansules a day, my life has been so much easier since then. I can actually concentrate on one thing without wanting to quit in the middle and take a nap. Many side effects, including dry mouth almost every day, heart pounding, loss of appetite leading to weight loss, muscles twitching, and severe tiredness if I suddenly stop taking it."

Dextroamphetamine for ADHD "This was far superior to generic. Gluten-free. No anxiety, no crash, provides me with flexibility with the time of dosage. Not quite as effective as the old Dexedrine instant release tablets, but very close. No side effects other than slight dry mouth."

For Narcolepsy "I’m healthy and fit - 28 years old male. Had a very bad mental breakdown. This gave me anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. Unfortunately, it also gave me EDS (excessive daytime sleepiness). During the day, I yawn like crazy, I can just about crash anywhere. (Armodafinil, modafinil) never worked for me. My new psychiatrist prescribed me dextroamphetamine 5mg instant release. I take 5mg when I wake up, 5mg after lunch, and 5mg after dinner. This drug makes me feel like I was when I was a kid - happy, laughter, fun, plenty of energy, feel heaps stronger, and heaps of confidence. Time flies. Best drug I’ve ever had. The best part (apart from no withdrawals and the only side effect is dry mouth) is that 100 pills only cost $9.99 AUD. If the whole world was on this drug, it would be a much happier place."

For Narcolepsy "I have been taking dextroamphetamines and/or Dexedrine since 1993 when I was first diagnosed with narcolepsy. The main side effect for me is dry mouth and talking too much. If I take the medicine within 8 hours of bedtime, I may have slight problems going to sleep because I'm still thinking too much. Other than that, I'm as far away from insomnia as I can be. I have done 2 sleep studies while taking this medicine and I still go to stage 4 sleep in less than a minute, at will. Before this medicine, I was never able to drive more than 30 minutes, I couldn't go out to people's homes, or watch TV, or go to the movies. Even when I played in a rock band, I was falling asleep during practice. This is a miracle drug for me."

For ADHD "Incredibly helpful. I've been taking 10 mg of instant-release dextroamphetamine for my ADHD for roughly 1 month. It's great. It really helps me focus. Obviously, I still have to make an effort to pay attention and focus on the things that I need to focus on, but it means that I can pay attention and effectively work. Funnily enough, I'm less anxious/irritable when I take dextroamphetamine because my thought process is more straightforward and I have less anxiety about not doing what I should be. It makes the negative social effects of my ADHD much better. I listen better and I think before I speak. My mouth gets dry when I take it, which is annoying, but manageable. It does seem to make my migraines worse, but the usual remedies still get rid of them."

Dextroamphetamine for ADHD "It sort of worked for me. I have been using Dexedrine 20 mg, prescribed in two 10 mg pills. Before that, 15 mg, one pill. Before that, one 10 mg pill. A problem I've had is with how my body metabolizes it. Rather than a smooth and consistent maintenance of focus, I experience peaks and valleys of it. It takes effect after 45 min, then it lasts for about 1-2 hours before I get incredibly sleepy for 1-2 hours, then it takes effect again, then I get sleepy again, then it takes effect again. I've talked with my psyche, and with the 20 mg split I take the first dose, then the second 10 mg dose 45 minutes later, and this has mostly, but not completely, solved the issue. Also, (consistent with all of the stimulant medications I've tried, though) is that it stops having any effect after about 3-4 days of usage straight. So I need to calculate for a day or two where I can't take the medication in order to allow for it to work later. Side effects: dry mouth, less hunger, nervousness."

For ADHD "Diagnosed with ADD when I was 9, I first, as a child, used Ritalin, but for years after that, I didn't have access to the right doctors to continue this or something similar. It took me until I was in my early 20s to find a doctor to prescribe me Dexedrine. It allowed me to keep my job due to the effects. There are some side effects: dry mouth (that goes away after a while), increased sex drive, and at times I can feel in a daze if I am not actively busy. You take it as you need it in some respects. I have always been on SR sustained release and used generic. I can attest, having been on several different medications in my life, this is what did it for me."

For ADHD "I've been using dextroamphetamine (Elvanse, 50 mg) for a few months now. The first thing I noticed is that it makes me feel more euphoric. When school started, I could pay attention throughout the entire lectures (1.5 h each) without losing focus. Studying is a lot easier because I don't get distracted, and I don't have the urge to move or take a walk every second. I can just sit down for 5 hours straight and study without getting exhausted. I do lose track of time because of this, however. Benefits: motivated, euphoric, confident (reduced social anxiety by a lot), no distractions, no restlessness. Side effects: not hungry --> weight loss, increased heart rate/pressure, not tired (I use melatonin), have to dump more often, dry mouth, irritated easily, cold feet. I am still chaotic like before, and impulsiveness (spending money) is still a problem. But it doesn't bother me as much. Besides being chaotic, the medication takes care of most of my ADHD complaints. The side effects are for sure manageable."
