"I've posted here a few months ago, and it's an update. I'm starting the 4th pack now, and almost everything I was complaining about went away! During the first few months, I've gained around 10 lbs, my boobs became much larger (that was super uncomfortable, because they're large anyways), I felt a little depressed and tired (nothing I couldn't handle though, I've been living my normal life). I couldn't work as hard as I wanted. Now I've lost all the weight I've gained, and I am me again. Feels like magic. Also, my tastes for food changed a bit. Something I loved does not taste good to me anymore, it's strange but fun to experience."

"I've been on Apri for almost 5 years. I was originally put on it for acne, but it's also been very effective as birth control too. My partner and I don't use any other form of birth control unless I'm on conflicting meds. My periods are regular and predictable, usually 3-4 days. I've gained weight, but I don't think Apri was the cause. Overall, Apri works well for me and I've had no issues with it."

"I decided to get birth control and was prescribed Apri. I was 21 at the time, and it was my first time getting birth control. Apri has given me no harsh side effects. In fact, it cleared up my cystic acne, regulated my very irregular periods, and has helped to minimize the severe back pain I would get during periods. Although I didn’t gain any weight, Apri did make my breasts grow. Taken on time, every day, Apri has proven to me to be a very good birth control."

"I've been on Apri for almost a year now. It works great protecting against pregnancy and keeping my periods regular, which don't happen exactly on the sugar pill day, but every time on Wednesday. But the downside to these pills is how big of a mental and emotional toll it takes on me. It gives me crazy amounts of anxiety. I've had anxiety a couple of times in my life, but it's an everyday thing now. It makes me feel like I've changed as a person and makes me very depressed and have deep, dark thoughts on life. I've always been an outgoing, go-getter type of person, but all I want to do now is sleep and ignore my anxiety. I don't know if I should change it or stay on it and see if it goes away, but it's been happening for almost a year now."

"Although Apri was very effective in doing its main job, preventing pregnancy, the side effects were very bad. I had perfectly clear skin prior to going on Apri, and about a month after starting, I started having very severe breakouts. I had noticeable mood swings that were not present before going on Apri. After being on Apri for 5 months, I have now switched to Sprintec, which is a pill with a higher dose of estrogen. After being on Sprintec for a month, I have noticed my skin clearing slightly and no crying spells before my period. Works better for me and would recommend it over Apri!"

"Have had a very good experience with Apri! It's the first birth control I've been on, and it's been about 9 months now. It's regulated my periods, so I can predict it down to the hour. They're less painful, I feel less nausea, and they're much shorter and lighter! I haven't gained any weight - just fluxed a bit up and down a few pounds. Overall - really good!"

"I started looking into Apri because I heard Yasmin could cause blood clots and was extremely worried. I'm glad to hear no one has had any such experiences with Apri. I have been on Apri for about a year now, my sex drive is normal, if not slightly higher than it used to be. My skin is good. I've gained about six pounds, but since I'm still in my late teens, that is normal and I'm sure would happen anyway. My periods are light and painless."

"The first two weeks of being on Apri, my appetite increased. I was hungry all the time. But after the two weeks, my appetite went back to normal. I gained maybe 5 lbs. I didn't get any acne. My periods have always been heavy, and I went on birth control for them to get lighter, but this pill did nothing. My periods were still heavy, and I got bad cramps. It did what it's supposed to do, and that was prevent pregnancy. I liked Apri overall."

"So, this is the only pill I've ever been on, so I don't have much to compare it to. However, after reading all the negative reviews, I felt I should chime in. I'm on my second month of this pill, and I'm almost done with it. So far, it's actually helped regulate my weight, which is awesome. The first month was kind of rough, I was spotty the entire pack. Once I started up the second pack, everything cleared up, and I've been good since! Worst part of this pill: no sex drive. It really does dry you up. I'm hoping this clears up after the third pack because my doctor told me to give it until then."

"This pill put me in pretty deep depression. I was extremely emotional and cried about everything all the time. I didn't gain weight, but it didn't really help with acne, and it caused me to get my period about 2 times a month. I had to stop taking it because I was so sad all the time and couldn't stand it."

"I got switched to this Apri birth control pill after breakthrough bleeding with Sprintec. I was on this pill for about 3 months, and I stopped mid-pack because I couldn’t wait another week. First month, I was SO hungry that hunger pains would wake me up in the middle of the night, and I’d have to go eat. I also would have terrible night sweats. I had anxiety before the pill, but I’ve been on an anxiety rollercoaster the last week, which started off with an hours-long panic attack. My blood pressure has been very high lately too. Not sure if that’s tied in with the pill, but I’ve been eating better and exercising, so you’d think it’d go down? Everyone is different, but I would recommend keeping an eye out for issues!"

"I have been on Apri for about 12 years now. I have nothing but good things to say about it. I have gained weight in the last year, I wasn't sure if it was caused by the birth control, so I went off of it for about 6 months. Nothing changed, it's obviously just my diet and lack of exercise. My OBGYN said that being on this pill has significantly reduced my risk of breast cancer, and I have much more regular periods and less cramping."

"I'm 19 and have been on this pill for 4 months now and have realized many changes. Some pros are that my acne has cleared up and excess hair slowed its growth rate, but the cons outweigh the pros. I have terrible mood swings, headaches, and nausea when I never had that before. My sex drive is nearly non-existent. My periods are more controlled, but they are very heavy and leave me very tired. I have gained 15 pounds in 4 months despite getting 2 hours of exercise almost every day. I thought this pill would help my hormones level out and help my depression, but it has made my relapses far between but much more intense when they happen. Overall, it gets the job done, but if you can, try a different pill."

"I started taking Apri about three weeks ago. It was nothing but a horrible experience for me. From the start, it was nausea, dizziness, throwing up, on-and-off eating habits, some days I could eat, and some days I couldn’t. I had extreme mood changes, I was snappy towards everyone all the time. I had severe cramps that seemed like they would never go away. All of these issues I thought would only last about a week to two weeks, then go away. But they only worsened as I kept taking Apri. I started having pain in my kidney, it started to hurt when I used the bathroom. Then the pain went to both sides and then down my legs. My legs would ache to the point I could barely walk. All I could do was sleep. I’ve never had any other issues with any other birth control until Apri. I do not recommend."

"I am taking the second cycle now. In general, I'm happy with my experience so far, and I'll keep taking it. Negative sides. During the first week, I felt sick to my stomach all the time, and I was super tired, but it went away. During the third week, I had mood swings and felt depressed, but I always feel this way a week before my period, so it was normal to me. Also, my boobs became larger, and it's a little painful to touch them, but that's okay. Positive sides. It feels really good not to worry about becoming pregnant. My sex drive is the same or even increased, weight is the same, appetite doesn't seem to increase. Period is less heavy, skin is better, acne is disappearing."

"Apri was my first ever birth control. The first month I experienced horrible symptoms (breakthrough bleeding for 30 days straight, bloating, cravings, nosebleeds, and vaginal odor). I contemplated getting off of it altogether, but after the 30 days I returned back to normal, and it has been great since then! Everyone's body is different, so this was just my personal experience. I was taking it in preparation to consummate my marriage, and I would suggest to any other women working on a timeline to start it way in advance so as to avoid and prepare for any changes to your cycle time and body's adjustment."

"I guess it does what it's supposed to, prevents pregnancy! I have been on it for 2 months, and the weight gain in my belly is ridiculous! I've gained 5 pounds. My mood is all whacked out. I plan on quitting."

"Was on Apri for 9 months. No major issues while taking it until 3 weeks ago when I was diagnosed with a massive pulmonary embolism. Testing was performed, and the root cause pointed towards Apri. Many articles online linking Apri (3rd generation) to PE's. Do your research before taking this pill, wish I did!"

"This is my 1st month taking the pill. I don't know why people are saying that their sex drive is gone. It has not affected me that way at all. The only problem for me is that it makes me have more discharge. After researching, the pill does this to make it harder for sperm to reach the uterus, which is fine by me! I have cramps for about 2 days, and my periods are short. No weight gain at all, no bigger boobs either, but it beats having babies! I also used to feel sick, but I don't know if it's because of the pill."

"I've jumped around to many birth control pills through the years - some landed me in the hospital with severe, blinding abdominal pain, some made me suicidal, and some made me nauseous. This is the first one that did not do that, so I was thrilled. It also bettered my severe, cystic hormonal acne to only about a blemish or two a month. However, it absolutely killed every ounce of my sex drive, which used to be high and healthy. That's been very frustrating. Otherwise, okay pill."

"I've been taking this pill for 6 years, and it has worked wonders! I've never spotted, my cramps are milder than before I took it, I rarely have a blemish, never gained weight, and for the past 2 years, I've personally been having sex without a condom and never had a pregnancy scare (I don't know if it will be the same for everyone, so use a condom!). Overall, I suggest this pill to many of my close friends because my sex drive is still high, and they see how I've never had a mood swing or bloating."

"This birth control is not for me. It can put me in the worst mood imaginable. If I don’t take it at the same exact time every day, I cramp the next day. Makes my boobs sore 2 weeks in and made my chin break out more. This is the 2nd one I’ve been on, I got put on BC for bad cramps, and so far it’s helped, but I still cramp. I do feel like I have lost some weight, though."

"I have only been on Apri for about a month now, and I love it. I have not gained any weight, my sex drive is the same as it was before I started taking the pill, and my insurance covers it. I get it for no cost at all. I don't know why everyone thinks that one pill is going to give everyone that takes it the same side effects. Every person is going to have different side effects, and some will have the same, but the pill is going to react differently to every woman who takes it. This pill overall is my favorite. I absolutely love this pill. It's effective and affordable."

"This is the 3rd bc pill I’ve tried, and it’s by far the worst. There’s barely any time during the month where I feel okay. The week before my period, the week during, and the week after, I feel super gross and have low energy. I have gained 15 pounds in the past 2 1/2 months, and it’s been super detrimental to my mental health. My depression and anxiety are the same as on any other pill, but I have depressive episodes where I cry for no reason every so often on this. Do not recommend."

"I like this Apri birth control pill a lot! I was quite surprised running across all these negative reviews. I understand everyone has a different experience with Apri and is affected everyone differently. Personally, I’ve had no problems, although it’s only been a few weeks of being on it. If anything, my mood swings (from when I was BC free) have gone down DRASTICALLY. I feel much more chilled out and content. No cramping, headaches, etc., but slight anxiety. I have noticed a little weight gain, but this is something that isn’t that big of a problem for me or detrimental. I was initially taking Depo, which caused me to bleed every day straight for 3 months (the same amount I normally would at the start of a period, except EVERYDAY) and suffered from cramps from time to time and nausea. My doctor switched me over to Apri, and so far I have little to no complaints. My skin has been consistently clear and I don’t feel fatigued."
