Cyproheptadine for Migraine "My child was diagnosed with cluster migraines when he was only 3.5 years old. This is very unusual. We refused to put him on anti-seizure medicines, which the doctor said has the side effect of helping migraines. Instead, we opted for Cyproheptadine, and it has worked wonders and improved his quality of life by 100 fold. Yes, I have to watch that weight gain, but otherwise, it has been a miracle."

For Anorexia "I am the stalker who reads posts for my own benefit, but rarely contribute. Today I decided it was time to give back in the form of sharing my experience. I have ALWAYS been a hard gainer. I've had four kids and still maintained a size zero (93 lbs) weight at 5'1. After fighting to gain weight for the last two years, I was up to 108 lbs. Fast forward after having the flu followed by new braces, which limited eating, I ended up 96 lbs and fragile looking. I tried to gain it back, but since I was a hard gainer, I couldn't. Went to my doctor, got these pills after reading posts and gained 11 lbs in ten days. From 96 lbs on 5/1/16 to 107 lbs on 5/11/16. Drowsy days 1-2 only. Now no sleepiness and mega appetite. 4 mgs three times per day."

Cyproheptadine for Anorexia "I was 9 st 4 lb, wanted to put some weight on, tried calorie drinks and eating more, but you can't eat more if you're not hungry. Did research, found these pills. Doctor had never heard of them but prescribed me 3 months of pills, 3 a day. I took 1, felt shattered, so I take half a tablet a day. No side effects, and now 10 st 6 lbs in 7 months, feeling a lot better. Just give your body time to get used to them."

For Anorexia "I started taking Apetamin syrup, which is the generic brand for Periactin. It contains the same ingredient-cyproheptadine-which stimulates your appetite. I couldn't find it in stores, so I ordered it on Amazon for $17.00, and it arrived in 2 days. I'm 4'11, and I've always been small and had a hard time gaining weight, except during my pregnancies. This stuff works!!! I have been eating everything in sight, and for the first time, I'm able to finish my entire meal. I started taking this on Jan. 31, 2016, at 95 lbs. By the time I weighed myself on Feb. 10, I had gained 7 lbs. I couldn't believe it. I knew my clothes felt tighter and looked better on me, but I was not expecting a 7 lb gain so fast. My goal is 120 lbs :) BW=95 lbs, CW=102 lbs, GW=120"

For Anorexia "I was prescribed this medicine because I have weight issues. I can gain weight, but I lose it fast. So my friend told me years ago about it, so I told my doctor. I took it on February 10th, I was 113, now it's Monday the 15th, I'm 119. So yes, it does work, and I'm also over the sleepiness. I love it, no bloated gut at all."

For Anorexia "I have been tiny my entire life. In 2007, I had to have emergency surgery. It turned out I had a band around my intestines. I had abdominal surgery and my appendix removed. The doctor said I was born with this band, and that's why I was in a lot of pain. He also said that's why I was not able to gain weight, because the band was wrapped around my intestines. It's been over 10 years, and I still haven't picked up weight. I recently had my first baby on April 19th of this year. I gained 20 lbs but lost it right after having him. I went to my OB for an appointment, he said he was going to send me to a specialist but wanted me to start taking this medicine. I hope this helps because I am 34 years old and very underweight for my age. It's very annoying when people say, 'You mustn't eat.' 'How much do you weigh?' So I will post my updates, I just got the medicine today."

For Anorexia "I love this medicine. I had to take it while I was pregnant because I was not eating, and I was losing weight. So this was a great booster. Now I'm pregnant again, and I'm looking forward to having this medicine again if needed."

For Anorexia "I've only been on this medicine for 2 months. I take 3 a day. I was 145 when I started, and now I'm 170. I love this medicine because I couldn't eat to save my life. Now I'm only taking one pill a day, so I won't eat as much. Great medicine."

Cyproheptadine for Anorexia "Asked my doc for a prescription 5 weeks ago. I was shocked when I weighed myself. First month, I gained 16 pounds. I had two kids, both one year apart. Started losing weight like crazy. Too busy to eat. Well, it keeps you hungry. However, if you go out and buy protein bars and the weight gain shakes, they help fill you up. Ensure is good too. Also on depot, so not sure which one makes me crave sweets. I'm supposed to be 150, I'm solid about 5'8. Went down to 118 within weeks. Perfect health, just no appetite. The shakes are easy to make and buy some already cooked meals and lots of snacks. I thought my stomach was going to eat itself. I do recommend taking an allergy pill with drowsy effects at bedtime a week before you start. 140 last check."

For Anorexia "I was prescribed this medication for rapid weight loss (-25 lbs in 2 weeks) from severe anxiety and panic disorder. During this time, I was unable to eat hardly anything and lost my appetite completely. My psychiatrist gave me a 4 mg dose of this to take daily. I started off by taking only half a dose, and that did the trick for me. I have gained 5 pounds back in about 10 days. I do have to say the appetite increased mostly toward the evening, not so much in the morning, but it does work. I did not experience any side effects from it."

Cyproheptadine for Migraine "I was prescribed Periactin to help contain severe migraines and have found it very effective. After taking two tablets a day for a week, I thought that maybe my migraines had been cured and stopped taking them-unfortunately, my headache came back within about one and a half days. I am now taking regular doses again and have not had a single headache to complain of. However, the increased appetite is an unfortunate side effect."

For Anorexia "I took this medicine 4 months back. I was 37 kg, and I gained 5 kg of weight. I am still underweight but want to suggest don't take this medicine for a long time. My periods are affected, they have become irregular for the last 4 months. It's good for appetite stimulation but can affect your body."

For Anorexia "A few weeks ago I wasn't feeling well. I felt dizzy, faint, my stomach was hurting, nausea, and sweaty. After that day, I just couldn't eat anything. Days went on, and I would eat 4 spoons of applesauce for the whole day. The thought and smell of food made me feel nauseous, so I didn't eat. Because of that, I lost 10 lbs in 1 week. They gave me this medicine to take 3 times a day to get my appetite back. And it works!! It only took 2 days to start working for me. I finally can eat normally again."

For Migraine "At first, when I started taking cyproheptadine for really bad headaches, I felt really sick. Then, as I continued taking it, my body got accustomed to it. I was about 138 lb and gained up to 147 lb in like 2 months. I was shocked."

For Anorexia "I was put on this a few years ago, and I was so happy to gain weight. I am almost 32 years old, I have 9 children, 5'6" and only weigh 104 lbs. I am going back on it. I want to look like a woman, not a child. My oldest son was mistaken for my boyfriend. I was so embarrassed."

For Cluster Headaches "My son was only 4 when he was diagnosed with cluster migraines. The diagnosis came after a year because they rarely occur in children that young. The horror of hearing him scream, 'Mommy, help me! Help me! Why does my head hurt?!' broke my heart. Our pediatrician recommended a drug that controls seizures but sometimes actually causes seizures. Nope was my answer. Next, he recommended Periactin. With little side effects and my son's headaches cycling one per day for 4 days, I agreed. It was the best decision we ever made. As long as he takes his med, he has no headaches at all. It has been the best blessing ever and given him a normal, pain-free life!!!!"

For Anorexia "I have always struggled to gain weight until my doctor prescribed me this. It took only a few days to get over the sleepiness, but it was worth it. After 2 months, I gained about 12 lbs. I only took 1/2-1 pill daily the first month. After I noticed a plateau in weight gain, I started to up my dose to 2 pills a day. So far, I'm continuing to gain and hope to gain more."

Cyproheptadine for Migraine "Cluster migraines made my life a misery. New doctor, new approach, and with Periactin of 5 x 4 mg at night has changed my life. Yes, be careful with the weight gain, and the sleepiness abated after two weeks. Some strange dreams as well."

For Anorexia "During my pregnancy, I had severe morning sickness the whole time and couldn't keep anything down. Before I got pregnant, I was 125 lbs, after I had my son, I went down to 109. It was almost impossible trying to gain weight because I could go a whole day without really wanting to eat. I heard about these pills online and asked my doctor for them. A friend of mine had also been taking them and gained 40 lbs, so I gave it a shot. In about 4 months, I've gained 30 lbs. I could've gained a lot more by now, but I take them on and off. You have to really want to gain and really eat because the pills alone won't make you gain, but they do give you an appetite boost. I try to eat at least 3,000 calories per day, which I couldn't do without the pills, and it has worked!"

For Anorexia "I have never been diagnosed with anorexia, but I have always been skinny. I have always had a high metabolism. My doctor prescribed me this medicine, cyproheptadine, and it has increased my appetite so much. I'm constantly eating, and I finish every meal! I'm craving food all the time, and I have gained 6 pounds! I was 88 pounds before I started taking my medicine, and my doctor is so happy to know I have gained weight. I totally recommend this medicine 100%."

For Anorexia "I've been thin my whole life. Never weighing more than 100 lbs. I have two children, and at almost 30, I was 5'9", 110 lbs when I found this medicine. It started working within days. And I love it. I'm not much for taking pills every day, but it's worth it. It's the only thing that's worked for me, and everyone has noticed the difference. Haven't stepped on a scale yet."

For Anorexia "So I was using this cyproheptadine for anorexia, and it caused severe heart problems with me, my heart would skip beats, and my mind would play with me and cause me to have panic attacks. To this day, it still causes skipped beats. I'm in my late teens and was prescribed this when I was 8 years old. Would not suggest giving this to someone that young at all."

For Anorexia "For me, being skinny never felt right. I was skin and bones all the time, and that really affected my self-confidence. In 2011, my mother introduced me to this medicine, and I love her extra for it. I moved from being just 110 at 5 ft 11 ins to 155 in a few months. A month ago, when I checked my weight, I was 170 lbs. Damn, how I was happy about it. But now I am going through a stressful time in my life (he got someone pregnant). I have already lost 7 lbs. I am back on this medicine again, and hopefully, I gain the lbs I lost recently. It does make you really sleepy at first, but then I feel like my body got used to it."

Cyproheptadine for Anorexia "I've been treated for anxiety with amitriptyline and Xanax. During my 3-month review with my doctor, I told him how I went from a 1 to a 5 since taking these medications. I've been trying to gain weight since having my daughter 10 years ago. I was always 5/6, 7/8... After having her, barely a 1. So I'm pleased that I'm gaining weight. So he gives me my anxiety medications with Periactin. Hopefully, all goes well and I can reach my goal."

For Anorexia "Yes, the hype is true with this med for appetite increase (also used for allergies, which works wonders). This will... I repeat, this medicine will make you sleepy, dizzy, and a bit lazy the first few days. I would say give it a full week before the sleepiness becomes manageable. I can recommend taking 2 mg, then up the dose every few days. **DO NOT take a full 4 mg at first, it will knock you on your butt. (Dissolving the tablet in juice or taking it with a full meal might help with the drowsiness.) Started this med at 100 lbs, 9 days later, I'm at 108 lbs. I rate it a 9 and not a full 10 because of the extreme drowsiness/sleepiness in the beginning. One last thing I recommend is to eat healthy foods to gain weight."
