Copper topical for Birth Control "2 years with the ParaGard IUD. Side effects progressively got worse, and eventually, unbearable. Heavy menstrual cycle, severe irritability, mood swings, depression, anxiety attacks, anger issues. About a year and a half into ParaGard: severe headaches behind eyes every single day, extreme fatigue. Listed symptoms progressively got worse. Sex -- only good part: the ability to have sex when I want without the hassle of having to remember and constant protection against pregnancy. However... I had no sex drive. Very painful."

Copper topical for Birth Control "The insertion was extremely uncomfortable, but quick. I experienced discomfort and pain in my ovaries, instead of my regular period cramping. My periods began lasting over two weeks, and I would bleed through super plus tampons and liners. Severe ovary, back, and leg pain. The psychological symptoms: I felt out of control, enraged, sad, exhausted, lifeless. After 6 cycles, I had it removed. I now have a normal cycle (26 days), 5 days of normal bleeding, no ovary pains, minor cramps, very little back and leg pain, no headaches, no major mood swings. All psychological symptoms are 'normal,' I'm slightly emotional and a little anxious, but I feel like myself."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I am 32 and had my daughter in Dec 2015. I had the IUD placed in April of 2016. This has been one of the worst experiences I've had. I have never been one to have any health issues and have been a very active person. I started having high blood pressure out of nowhere. I had to be put on meds. I noticed that my period was longer than I was used to and heavier (8 days or so). Later down the line, I noticed my hair and scalp were extremely dry, my hair started coming out like I left some type of chemical in it. I also started having anxiety (which I never had a problem with) and then these contraction-like pains that came around my period and then after. While it did keep me from getting pregnant, the issues are not worth it. removed 5/10"

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had it in for 5 years. Okay at first. Gradually started having VERY heavy periods, constant bacterial vaginitis, and after about 3 years was no longer able to feel strings. My OB assured me that was not so abnormal. I also began having anxiety, panic attacks, hair loss, and decided to have it out. Two attempts in the office were unable to remove it. It has embedded into my uterine wall. I had same-day surgery to have it removed. Within 6 months, anxiety and panic were resolved, and hair loss leveled out. No more heavy periods or BV."

Copper topical for Birth Control "Severe allergic reactions-I'm talking anaphylaxis-like, carry EpiPens, anything and everything could set me off. Hives almost daily. Heavy and painful periods. Hair wouldn’t grow for over a year and is only now due to removal of the ParaGard. Chronic fatigue, extreme anxiety, and poor mood."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I got the ParaGard in after my 3rd baby after 3 months. After a couple of days, I all of a sudden started having really bad anxiety, which in my whole life I never had. I ended up going to the hospital from feeling like I couldn’t breathe and my fingers were all tingly. All tests came back normal other than my liver enzymes were up and ruled it as a panic attack. So I got the ParaGard out. Got blood work done again and my liver enzymes went back to normal and anxiety went away almost immediately. I have panic disorder now and still get the panic attacks. Pretty sure it was from copper toxicity. Worst mistake I ever made. I highly recommend NOT getting the ParaGard!"

For Birth Control "This product is terrible, and I do not recommend this! You will hurt for a bit when it gets inserted. Then that will pass, and you will think you are all normal again. But this is when it creeps up on you, the increased blood loss from your periods made me dizzy and delusional. My anxiety skyrocketed, and I am constantly experiencing vertigo. I am constantly tired and feel out of it, my behavior has changed immensely, and it has only been 7 months of use. This is actually sick that we have to have something lodged inside us that was probably invented by some man! Just use condoms and save yourself!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "This thing was causing so many problems for me. I bled like I was hemorrhaging during my 10-12 day periods, with cramps so bad I could barely get out of bed to take care of my children. I was weak, exhausted, beyond moody, and struggled with depression. Not to mention my anxiety going to levels I didn't know existed for me. I had ParaGard for 2 years before reading about other women with similar issues and making the choice to get it removed. My reason for choosing ParaGard was all the issues I'd had with hormonal birth control, but the side effects with this were far worse."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had Paragard for a total of 5 weeks. Never felt so miserable in my life. I bled for the entire time I had Paragard, with 2 heavy periods and constant spotting in between. I gained weight (I was back in my skinny jeans 5 weeks after giving birth but had to wear yoga pants again while on Paragard because of serious bloating that made me look 5 months pregnant). I developed anxiety, depression, panic attacks while driving (I'm a professional driver), bloating, cramping, feeling extremely fatigued all the time, constant back and neck pain, major hair loss, anger, headaches (I never suffer from headaches because I hydrate all day). Had it removed yesterday and already feeling so much better and happier. Neck/back pain is gone..."

Copper topical for Birth Control "Finally, just got the ParaGard out after 1.5 years of recurrent yeast infections and 8-10 day periods on a 25-day cycle. I had it put in 3 months after having a baby and only mention this because I still don’t know which was the cause of my massive anxiety, but I don’t remember feeling how I did until this IUD went in. As many have said, I generally feel way better after removal. My first period since was back to 4 days (YAY) and so far no major itching, so hopeful done with the infections. My anxiety is another thing that is TBD, it’s been less than a month but do feel it’s improved."

Copper topical for Birth Control "DON'T DO IT. I had my ParaGard in for 16 months. Terrible pain/cramping (I have a high pain tolerance, but I was literally doubling over) and heavy, HEAVY bleeding... and these side effects/symptoms did not subside after a few months as they say. Weird tissue was expelled a couple of times a month, and it was so scary to see it in the toilet. The worst thing was the anxiety and sore joints/muscles. I realized about a year or so in that I was experiencing high anxiety (freaking OUT about minor things) and couldn't put my finger on what was going on. Finally, I did my research, and it looks like this is somewhat common. I took it out last month, and I felt relief almost immediately. Anxiety has subsided tremendously, and the muscle soreness is less as well. The ParaGard is marketed as 'hormone-free,' but your body does weird things to compensate for the 'irritation' it does in your uterus. And the copper toxicity issue is just plain scary. Just don't do it!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "Please do your research and pay attention to your own body. This IUD did not work for me, but it may in fact be amazing for you. I had it placed at 6 weeks postpartum. By 12 weeks, I was having panic attacks and anxiety. Flash forward a year, my anxiety and panic attacks are at a whole different level. I started having depressive episodes (all of this is new to me). In the past year, I have had two yeast infections (this also has never happened). I finally went to a naturopath who prescribed progesterone therapy for my low progesterone and my sky-high estrogen. I have constant fatigue, joint popping, and headaches. My lower back would throb constantly. I couldn't feel when I needed to pee. My libido is in the trash. After finding some blogs, I decided to have it removed. Immediately, my back pain was gone within 30 minutes, and within 24 hours, I could feel when I had to pee again. If you have a reaction to nickel or fake earrings, please do your research and make sure this IUD is for you."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I was on ParaGard for 4.5 years. Prior to this, I wasn’t on birth control and had light, painless periods. Getting it inserted was uncomfortable but bearable. While on it, I had heavier, longer periods, but they became more manageable after 1 year. I liked ParaGard at first because it was convenient and free with insurance. However, after 2 years, I began bleeding during sex, feeling anxious, gained 10 lbs, and got persistent cystic acne. I kept ParaGard in 2 more years because I didn’t realize those issues were linked to my non-hormonal birth control. Then an ultrasound revealed that my ParaGard had been displaced and was sitting too low to be fully effective. My OB-GYN said this happens a lot. When I got it removed, we noticed half of the copper coil had dissolved/fallen off. After removal, all symptoms disappeared in a week."

Copper topical for Birth Control "Destroyed my life! Worst decision ever! Had it less than 2 years and it wreaked havoc on my body and mind! Aged me 15 years, copper toxicity, over half my hair fell out, thought I was dying of cancer. Caused extreme anger, anxiety, depression, irrational fears, and personality change. Sadly, I've seen many others with similar stories. Beware!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had this put in 5 months ago. I’ve never been depressed before for no reason. But after almost 3 months of depression, I’ve been having suicidal thoughts and crazy anxiety like I’ve never had before. It may be non-hormonal, but my doctor never once mentioned the possibility of copper toxicity. Along with 2-week periods, HEAVY periods (bleeding through supers in 30 minutes for 5 days straight), insane cramps, painful sex, and hot flashes... this thing is coming out TONIGHT."

Copper topical for Birth Control "Copper toxicity, heart palpitations, uncontrollable cystic acne, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, bloating, prolonged spotting prior to period, lethargy, terrible cramping. Awful, awful birth control! I was not warned about any of these side effects prior to insertion."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had the ParaGard placed shortly after my second son was born. I was teaching at that time. I moved over that summer and worked in another education-related field. I started getting difficulties with focus and concentration. I developed anxiety and depression. I tried to teach again, but my body could no longer handle stress. I went through years of therapy and doctors trying to give antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication. I had the IUD removed and was able to get pregnant after. Pregnancy holds onto copper, and I had PPD after this pregnancy. Depression and anxiety worsened. It was affecting my nervous system, causing electrical shocks in my hands and feet. I had high unbound copper and finally found the right doctor to help clear the copper and decrease inflammation."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I am 23 years old and have not had any children, and I believe this is a lot of the reason why Paragard wreaked such havoc on my uterus and body. I gave Paragard a shot because I was told it was one of the most 'natural' forms of birth control, and I have never met a pill that I could tolerate. I thought the no hormones involved with the Paragard would be the answer for me. I had the IUD in for a year and was miserable the whole year. Here were some of my symptoms: chronic lower back pain, which made it uncomfortable to sit for long periods of time, sharp pain in my right hip area, which traveled down my leg to my foot, 2-week long periods with heavy flow and painful cramps, lightheadedness when exercising, anxiety, mood swings, irritability."

For Birth Control "I have had my IUD almost 9 months. Having it put in wasn't that bad. The cramping was horrible, it still is. But the thing that is messing me up is the mental part. I'm feeling very anxious. My libido has gone from super high to super low. Sex isn't so much of a need anymore. I still think that the copper IUD has an effect on our natural hormones. I've done a lot of research on copper toxicity. A lot of my side effects are matching up with it. I think by the end of the month, I will have it taken out."

Copper topical for Birth Control "Insertion was horrifically painful. I haven't gotten pregnant yet in the 10 months I've had this thing, so I guess it's doing its job… but I'm considering having it taken out. Sucks because this is my last option. Period blood smells of copper, 10-day long periods, random stomach cramps, anxiety, depression, dissociation (I had a bit of a breakdown a week ago), panic attacks, itchy vagina, rectum/pouch of Douglas pains, loads of discharge, achiness, tiredness, dry brittle hair, hair falling out more, really run down and catching more illnesses, heart palpitations, feeling like I'm gonna have a heart attack sometimes… this thing is awful. Don't get it."

For Birth Control "I honestly got so sick from this IUD. My major symptoms included huge brain fog, depression, anxiety, constant urge to urinate, cold hands and feet, always bloated and 20 lb gain, and just generally always feeling 'off.' Then randomly I was watching YouTube videos where a guy was talking about how you are more susceptible to candida if you have a copper IUD. Because I had at different points assumed I might have a candida overgrowth, I decided to have the IUD removed and see if it improved anything. Honestly, within a few days all of my symptoms were gone. I can’t say whether an IUD is right for you or not, all I can do is share my story and reaffirm that we are all in control of our own personal health destinies. If something in your body doesn’t feel right, you can choose to have it removed!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "Well, it works for birth control, but I did have skin problems probably due to no hormones. But there were also changes to my mood in terms of PMS and depression. I always felt like I was in a fog and had anxiety. Recommend just taking the pill, at least you would have clear skin, and your mood will be under control and lighter periods."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I got my copper IUD 2 years ago. I took ibuprofen extra strength before, but the pain was excruciating. I nearly fainted. I couldn’t stand for half an hour. The cramps were intense. Fast forward 2 years, my periods have gone from 5 days of moderate bleeding to 7-8 days of extremely heavy bleeding. Some days I soak through super plus tampons and pads in just a couple hours. And never mind the spotting, which happens after sex, before my period, and after, and at any random time. My iron is the lowest it’s ever been. I’m exhausted, my sex drive is nonexistent, I experience brain fog almost 24/7, and my anxiety has never been so bad. I have gone back to school in the last year, which is likely contributing to my symptoms, but having been through college before, I am not convinced that my symptoms are entirely due to that. After hearing some similar stories from people who had the copper IUD and who felt better after it was removed, I am now planning to have mine removed."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had the copper IUD for about 3 weeks, and I finally got it removed this morning. First, I got it inserted, and the first week I was having contractions and bleeding blood clots. Very heavy bleeding. It was so bad that I would get chills from the pain. Second, I started to have panic attacks, and my anxiety felt off the charts. Third, my brain felt super foggy. My brain felt like I was off on a cloud, and I couldn't focus at work. Fourth, I felt depressed and moody. It was like my emotions were up and down, and I couldn't help it. Fifth, I felt bloated and fatigued. I was told numerous times that this IUD didn't have hormones, but it sure had something in for me to get symptoms like this. I know that every woman is different, but with my experience, I would recommend the Mirena IUD over the ParaGard IUD ANYTIME. I had both, and by far, Mirena is better. For now, I'll stick with the old school birth control - 'The Pill.'"

Copper topical for Birth Control "Got the IUD after my daughter was about a year and a half. At first, everything seemed normal. I was stressed out, of course, being a new mom. About 2 years later, I noticed how crazy depressed I would get before my period. I would also lash out at everyone. I was extremely emotional. I ignored it. But several months later, I started getting panic attacks and anxiety. I used to get attacks when I was a teen, so I knew exactly how to cope, but it kind of started making me stressed out. Then, I started getting odd thoughts that didn't make sense and brain fog. It was creeping me out. I started Googling and realized I had Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), which is severe PMS. I had no idea why I would have this. I tried working out and eating better. Nothing worked. Then one day, I typed in copper IUD and PMS. A thousand articles showed up. Women telling the same story as me. I called the doctor and had it taken out immediately. It's been 3 months now, and I feel better. Research birth control. The human body doesn't understand foreign objects."
