Copper topical for Birth Control "The IUD perforated my uterus. It was discovered at my two-week string check. The IUD had traveled and imbeded in scar tissue between my left ovary and fallopian tube. I fear that I may never be able to conceive again. I experienced quite a bit of postpartum depression as a result. I had the IUD surgically removed roughly one month after it was discovered out of place. Interestingly, I knew something wasn’t right shortly after it was put in because I couldn’t sleep, had severe anxiety with red blotches on my chest and face from heightened anxiety. I had a number of other symptoms, such as trouble fully connecting with my new baby, which hadn’t been an issue early on. It was over a year ago, and I'm still having ultrasounds to check for fluid in my uterus, which continued to expand for about 6-7 months after it was removed. In summary, it was a big mistake, and I’m still paying for it due to excessive medical bills for therapy, psychiatric care, ultrasounds, surgical costs, etc."

For Birth Control "I got the Paragard around 6 months ago and have been having severe side effects I attribute to excess copper in my system. (I'm also a vegetarian and my diet is high in copper.) I have never had heavy or painful periods, on or off hormonal birth control. Now my periods are 10-15 days with spotting in between, moderate cramps several days before, and through the duration of my period. The majority of days on my period, I go through a super tampon every 1-2 hours. I started experiencing increasing anxiety when I got this IUD. In the last week, I've had several panic attacks a day. Two were so severe that I ended up in the ER (at the hospital I work). I've developed health anxiety. I'm having it removed in 2 weeks. Don't recommend."

Copper topical for Birth Control "No, no, no. A piece of copper implanted into your body? I had it in for 1 month. In that time, I felt like I was always about to have a period, I never had cramps before. I experienced anxiety, racing thoughts, repetitive thoughts, empty feelings, extreme anger and resentment, extremely itchy labia and skin, tremoring vision, nausea, headaches, terrible back pain, sharp joint pains, earaches, sadness, and the worst TOTAL LOSS OF SEX DRIVE. Also, vaginal dryness. I basically couldn't feel myself on the inside. The stress of unplanned pregnancy is easier to deal with than this. Anything that causes this as it 'settles in' is just messed up. Just because the side effects may go away doesn't make it OK. It's your body numbing out to this hideous device."

Copper topical for Birth Control "This so-called birth control took away 4 years of my life I can never get back! I ended up with copper toxicity, my hair fell out in clumps, my periods were so heavy I couldn't even leave my house because I was severely anemic...let's not mention the severe anxiety that again kept me a prisoner in my home. When I finally had the torture device removed, it came out rusty and falling apart! I still suffer long-term effects from it. It needs to be removed from the market...nothing good comes from it!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "Awful experience. Had ParaGard in for 9 years. Had major mood swings (which I never had, even when pregnant), high anxiety, hair loss, weight gain, and heavy, heavy periods (like can’t go through the night with a super tampon without changing it). Had it removed, and my bloating, fatigue, and anxiety disappeared."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I got the ParaGard inserted Dec 2014. I was made aware of the heavy bleeding for the first 6 months. During the insertion, I felt faint, like I was going to pass out. I bled for months straight and was told this was normal. Year one passed, and I was still having heavy bleeding and bad cramps. I always had a very light cycle that lasted maybe 3 days. However, with the ParaGard, I was bleeding heavily for 6-7 days. Year two to 6, same thing. I went through boxes of pads and tampons. I often bled through my clothes, and I was anxious that it would happen every month. My anxiety increased, and it was so bad. I kept the IUD in for six years! I didn't believe in the other birth controls because of the hormones. Looking back, I wished that I had gotten it removed much sooner. I became anemic, and the bleeding was just horrible. Birth control affects everyone differently. If you're considering it, take a chance but don't hesitate to get it removed."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I just got the copper IUD removed after having it for 7 months. I am normally a really positive person with a happy demeanor, and I am convinced that the copper IUD threw me into depression and anxiety. I have NEVER had depression or anxiety, and every month my moods got worse. I would cry almost every day, I would snap at my bf or family for the smallest thing, and I felt rage almost all the time. I was trying to figure out if something else in my life was affecting me. I even went to my therapist and a depression care specialist. I finally read some reviews on the copper IUD and depression, and it seems pretty common. Drs will tell you it's not the IUD, but please trust your intuition. I also had a yeast infection & BV almost every month because of the IUD."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I am planning on getting this removed tomorrow... despite recovering from a concussion. I want it OUT. Intense pain: over AN HOUR. The Drs gave me ice AND heat packs, and both helped. After March insertion: LIGHTER periods. November: they suddenly went from regular to coming every 2 WEEKS. Length of periods: okay, severity of periods: okay, mood swings: severe. I used to love attention from people, but now it feels like everyone is watching me. What was good: it decreased my frequency of yeast infections, but didn’t get rid of them altogether. Haven’t been myself since November: anxious and depressed. This has negatively impacted my studies. I recommend: hormones are better, but go to the gym often and eat plenty of greens/spinach to help iron levels if you have heavy periods. I wish I knew which hormonal IUD to switch to, to prevent mood changes and to help me prevent yeast infections, but I’ll see what the GYN thinks. Verdict: ParaGard is not worth it."

For Birth Control "Where do I even begin? Had the copper IUD fitted a year ago, having it removed next week. Didn't think that this could have been causing all my symptoms. Heart palpitations, to the point I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack, as my heart feels like it has stopped, which is terrifying. I have had an ECG to make sure my heart's okay. Stomach trouble, ended up having to have an endoscopy to figure out why I have chronic upper stomach pain along with nausea. Dizziness to the point I feel I will pass out. Severe anemia, I am now having to take iron along with folic acid. Horrendous mood swings two weeks before my period, along with crippling anxiety, which I have never had my whole life. Sharp pains in my lower abdomen when I move the wrong way suddenly. Severe tiredness. Then there's the period, night pads through the day which I basically soak through. Constant muscle pain all over my body. Aching joints in my hands. Feel like I'm not in my own body. I literally cannot wait to have this removed."

For Birth Control "Let me start off by saying I did not educate myself at all about any type of birth control, so a non-hormonal one seemed perfect. The insertion was an intense pinching pain that lasted a few minutes. It seemed longer and was very uncomfortable. When they were done, I only felt sore, but the pain was gone! I didn't get my period at all for a couple of months, and when I did, it was heavy and very short! I bled through 2 supers and 1 regular in just a few hours. It did become normal after the first day. Although this is supposed to be non-hormonal, I noticed a lot of changes. I had random headaches, cystic acne on my jaw that I never get, loss of sex drive when I used to have a high sex drive, extremely moody, like very angry, my anxiety got worse, and I’m pretty sure I got BV. I kept thinking it was a change in my living situation that happened a month before getting the BC, but it just gets worse. I do not recommend this IUD at all!"

For Birth Control "I got the copper IUD inserted with slight pain but nothing at all immediately after. Hurt a bit, but as soon as I sat up, it was fine. I had period pains for the first couple of days, but nothing bad. I've had normal bleeding but spotting for a few days before it actually comes. That was the only good thing about it. My negative side effects from this copper IUD are that I have been more depressed, anxious, and in more pain than I've ever had before. It has been absolutely horrible for my partner and me. I have no sex drive, it hurts when I pee and poop. I feel like my body is constantly trying to fight it. I've had so many really depressed thoughts, and back pain has been unbearable. Please make sure you do your research before you get this copper IUD! It's not worth it and ruins lives and relationships!! Women deserve better than to be told lies like this does NOT affect you!!! LIES, LIES, LIES!!!!"

For Birth Control "This insertion isn’t as bad as everyone says it is, it’s way more uncomfortable than painful, but I also have a high pain tolerance. Cramping after insertion is mild, so don’t plan on doing anything for the rest of the day. I had a bad reaction to hormonal birth control (severe weight loss and increased anxiety), so I opted for Paragard. Off of birth control, I never had bad cramps and would only get them the day of my period, that being said, my cramps on Paragard are far more painful and prolonged. The first few months of having Paragard, the cramps are really intense, but they get better with time. Besides the cramps, I haven’t had any other problems with my Paragard. I’ve heard people say that Paragard has caused weight gain and anxiety/depression, which I haven't had."

For Birth Control "I had my Copper IUD inserted a few months ago. Over the course of the next few months, I noticed symptoms such as a lack of motivation, feeling tired, and the right side of my head feeling sore, as if my brain felt agitated or that my vessels felt inflamed. I had a bit of depression, and my anxiety was really bad. My periods were very heavy and unpleasant, I had constant spotting as well. My mood felt different as well, I felt more irritable and more impatient. I decided to have it out today, and I immediately felt a lift in my mood, and the weird sensation in my head settled. It felt like a relief in my womb, as if the coil was irritating my ovaries or something. My body definitely did not like having a foreign body in my reproductive region."

For Birth Control "This is a positive review since I see nothing but bad reviews. I was one of those people who read the comments, blogs, all that about getting it, making me not want to get it, and I’m glad that I went through with it! Best decision I’ve made for myself and taking control of my reproductive health! Not everyone's body is the same, so if it doesn't work for you, try something else. I was on the Mini pill with bad mood swings, anxiety, and weight gain that was driving me nuts, so I decided to get the copper IUD. Now, getting it put in wasn’t that bad, I took ibuprofen beforehand, and I was on my cycle, so it made it easy. It’s more like pressure and a 20-second mild cramp. My first cycle was heavy, but it’s been like that before birth control, but the cramps, boy oh boy! They are so sharp and painful, and my period lasts up to 7 days. But I’ll stick to it because I love having no hormones in me, finally feeling myself after 4 years."

Copper topical for Birth Control "Got it right after I had my son (2 months after) and immediately regretted it. Terrible cramping. Painful periods. Excessive bleeding. I'd fill a super tampon and leak through to fill a liner within an hour. Then the hormonal changes started happening: mood swings, migraines, depression, anxiety, panic attacks. Fatigued. Anemic. So fatigued!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "After 6 months with this IUD, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to have it removed. I have never ever in my life dealt with depression, anxiety, or panic attacks until I got the Copper IUD. Before the IUD, my periods were fairly light and 4-5 days on average. Light PMS. Some back pain. With the IUD, they were 7-8 days. So heavy I had to wear a pad and a jumbo tampon and change every 2 hours. Horrible cramping to where my only relief was laying in bed curled up with a heating pad. Midol and Tylenol rarely made a difference. Around my time of PMS, I would suddenly feel very, very depressed and so fatigued. And then my mind would race into a downward spiral where I would then panic I would feel this way forever. Glad to have this out and be me again!!!"

For Birth Control "I've booked an appointment to have my copper coil removed as I've been struggling with a variety of dreadful symptoms. Having it inserted was dreadful, two days after having it in, I began having extreme anxiety and depression, pain in my feet and legs, mood swings, brain fog and confusion, breast tenderness, constant spotting and bleeding after sex, an occasional metallic taste in my mouth, fatigue. At times I've felt so nauseous and tired I've believed I could only be pregnant again, also, I had painful, stubborn acne. The symptoms are horrendous, and I would strongly recommend women not have it. If you already struggle with mental or physical problems, then definitely do not try this contraception. I hoped to be one of the few who suited this, but unfortunately, it's been one of the worst decisions I've made. My periods have not been very painful, but the bleeding is beyond heavy, and the clots are massive. I can't wait to have it removed."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had the IUD, and it was almost the end of me. I had it for just 2 years. Currently, I have side effects of nerve damage, insomnia, chest pain, high copper toxicity, body pain, hair loss, cystic acne, UTI, weight gain, brain fog, depression and anxiety, blurry eyes, deafness, metal taste, nausea, migraine. I can go on and on. It did not work for me because it's toxic to women. There is no benefit for this."

Copper topical for Birth Control "When I had the ParaGard inserted, I literally cried from pain (might have been tight, he was surprised). Then I had horrible, painful cramps for about 3-4 days after insertion, like the worst period I ever had, and then they subsided slowly but continued to be crampy with flare-ups in between periods. I got my period on a regular schedule, but with painful cramps for about a week leading up to my period. The cramps got less intense over the course of 6 months, and the intermittent cramping reduced, but is not totally gone. I still get cramping where my uterus feels like it's swelling and contracting all of a sudden and with no warning. (I have not been able to find a pattern in when the random cramping occurs.) But it does leave me with anxiety because they can be pretty painful, although fleeting. In summary, it’s been 6 months since insertion, and I still have bad cramping around my period and enough random cramping throughout the month that I am frustrated and hoping this reduces to none soon."

For Birth Control "Just got my copper IUD on Saturday, and I love it so far! Insertion hurt, I would say like a 6 on a scale of 1-10 (I had a daughter already), but it only lasted like 1 minute! After, I felt great! Only thing I felt was a bit of anxiety in the night on the first day only, but I just drank tea to calm myself down! Since then, I’ve had no problems! I’m yet to experience my first period (kinda nervous). But make sure to take Tylenol 30 min before insertion. Give it a try, it may work for you!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "ParaGard was inserted July 2016 and removed June 2017 (almost a year!). The first week after it was installed, I had debilitating cramps for three days straight and constant bleeding. Every month, my periods were twice as heavy, twice as long, and 10 times more painful! I was told this would calm down after 6 months, so I persevered. If anything, my periods got MORE painful to the point where I couldn't leave the house in case I'd be hit by a wave of contractions. On a side note, I felt anxious, depressed, introverted, alone (I'm usually so social and confident!), worthless, and I experienced social anxiety for the first time! I also gained 20 lbs, which is definitely not due to a change in diet/exercise. If anything, I was eating better!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had my ParaGard removed today. I had it for about 17 months, and maybe 3 months after the insertion, I started feeling really bad-first just depression, insomnia, and an overall feeling of not being well. Then I developed bad anxiety followed by panic attacks, my heart beating like crazy from the minute I woke up. I was a wreck, not able to get myself to work and be productive, I was drained, exhausted, and unhappy. I was not able to enjoy anything, day after day. I had my blood and urine tested, and everything seemed fine to my PCP. They wanted to treat me for mental issues because I really thought I was going crazy. I went to my gynecologist for a check-up and mentioned my symptoms, they said nothing... Now I am dealing with copper overload!!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "It was more of a mental problem for me than physical. Never had any cramping or pains, maybe a little discharge problems between periods, but the main concern for me was feeling depression, anxiety, isolation, tiredness all the time, mood swings affecting my marriage! I never suspected my IUD to be the problem, but it all started after I had it put in about 2 years ago and slowly progressed to being very noticeable now; it had me considering going on anti-depressants!"
