"I had severe anxiety and would shake. Was prescribed Xanax, and it just left me tired on top of my anxiety and shaking. Klonopin stopped my shaking and settled my racing thoughts. I was able to go to college, drive, and stay in situations instead of leaving. It worked miracles for me!"

For Panic Disorder "I had severe panic disorder beginning in 1992. I couldn’t function. My doctor prescribed Prozac 20 mg daily and Klonopin 0.25 in the morning and 0.25 at night. I had almost immediate good results and was back feeling great; calm, no anxiety, back to my old self. I’ve been on this combination for many years. It has been wonderful to be able to lead a full life!"

For Panic Disorder "Not a viable long-term medication. It works okay in the beginning. No, it doesn’t take away anxiety, but it can reduce some symptoms. It was never meant to be used long-term unless the benefits outweigh the risks. However, you have a responsibility to do some research and decide whether it is right for you. Ask questions, talk in forums, call a substance abuse hotline, and ask them to explain the risks. Don’t have complete faith in everything a doctor tells you, they are usually good and mean well, but you are ultimately responsible for yourself. Getting addicted to anything is bad news. You cannot just stop when you want to, nor should you."

For Panic Disorder "I've been on Klonopin for probably 25 years. It's worked so much better than Xanax. I got down to taking 0.25 at night and 0.25 in the morning. But this year my mom died, and I had been her caregiver for a long time with zero support. I did great until she died, now I'm having panic attacks again. I have fought with myself about upping my dose since I do know what withdrawal is like, but today I took extra. My doctor told me I should. To be honest, I am ready to feel normal again. I'm tired of not being able to participate in life."

For Seizure Prevention "Good seizure prevention/rescue drug, and the only benzodiazepine whose primary indication is an anticonvulsant. I've been at 2 mg three times a day for over 10 years with no problems whatsoever."

For Panic Disorder "Doc put me on Klonopin 2-3 mg/day after a brain injury. After a few years, my quality of life started falling quickly. After much reading, I found that Klonopin was causing the anxiety due to tolerance withdrawals, caused by increasing tolerance with no dose escalation. I was ripped off of the medication and barely survived. Six months of severe withdrawals: didn't sleep, could barely eat, muscles so stiff that walking was difficult, severe tinnitus, etc., etc. DO NOT take this medication for more than a few days or you are risking one of the most severe addictions known to man."

For Seizure Prevention "I've been on 2 mg, 3 times daily for the last 10 years for seizures and haven't had any problems with the drug. I've let myself run out in the past a few times, and the withdrawal is mild compared to powerful narcotic analgesics such as OxyContin or methadone."

For Panic Disorder "The biggest mistake of my life. I thought Klonopin was an actual godsend the first time I had taken it, one of the first times in my life I wasn’t an anxious and neurotic mess. But 15 years of doctors throwing them at me like candy so I didn’t have to actually face my anxieties and medicate them instead has left me in taper hell. This isn’t the medication's fault, it worked as intended. The problem was lack of knowledge from doctors and myself for medicating the problem without facing it. Sometimes that is only how some people can function, and I’m sure I’m one of them, though after 6 months, all of these miracle drugs are moot due to tolerance. You’ll need more and more until you’re just poisoning yourself. My suggestion is to be very careful with these and try to find knowledgeable doctors to help you with them."

For Panic Disorder "I started taking 0.5 mg, ending up at 3 mg daily for panic disorder. I used Klonopin and SSRI over the years. They worked for a time but then stopped; only Klonopin helped panic. Eventually, I felt rebound symptoms of panic and paranoia the longer I was on it, along with memory problems. Still recovering my life after a month off of it, and memories come back daily. Followed all directions; never abused it. Thought Klonopin was the best for 18 years. Now I have to start my life again. Daily use is a risk over a long period of time. If a doctor tries this, be your best advocate and question!"

For Panic Disorder "My anxiety began with my colon becoming so tightened up and spastic that I was bent over worse than kidney stones, which I've had bad also. After 1 week in a hospital with every GI test, I found that my emotions hit dead square in my stomach. Well, the doctor gave me 1 mg of Klonopin, and it would, within 30 minutes, give full relief and no horrible pains!!! Also, at the same time, I spent another week with a full nervous breakdown and have generalized anxiety disorder very full blown. I take about 3 or 4 mg at most a day since 2010 and can work fully and function wonderfully without all the crazy OCD, panic, freaking out. It stays in my system most of the day, so I don't have to pop another over and over like I did Xanax... This is a lifesaver!!!"

For Panic Disorder "I have been on Klonopin for 17 years. I started with 0.5mg in the morning with an SSRI. Over the years, all the SSRIs would work for a bit, then I would have to change. In the last year, I lost my husband suddenly at 38 and have changed SSRIs 4 times, and finally said no more. I am currently on 10mg of Lexapro and 1.5mg of Klonopin. The withdrawal of Lexapro and before that Effexor have been hellish. If not for Klonopin, I wouldn't make it through the day. Addictive or not, it works."

For Panic Disorder "I have been on Klonopin 0.50 and an antidepressant for 17 years, it saved me from my panic attacks. A year ago, I lost my husband tragically, he was only 38. Recently, the antidepressants stopped working, and I have just upped the Klonopin to 1.5 mg to stop the attacks. I have tried 4 different antidepressants, and they have done nothing but give me horrible side effects. Although Klonopin is addicting, it has also given me my life and helped me get through the roughest time of my life."

For Panic Disorder "My doctor began prescribing Klonopin 1 mg 3 times a day when I was 23 years old to help treat anxiety and sleep disorders. I took Xanax for 11 years, and it did help my symptoms, although I did build up a tolerance pretty fast but kept at the same dose. But when my doctor retired and a new doctor took over his practice, I was abruptly discontinued from Xanax. This was a dangerous thing to do. I began to go into withdrawals within one day without the Xanax. The withdrawals were excruciating and lasted for weeks. I was in constant extreme anxiety. Sleep was nearly totally absent for more than two weeks. My thoughts started to become almost to the point of psychosis, which also lasted for weeks. So never abruptly stop benzos unless medically supervised."

For Anxiety "Yes, this medication works. It works very well for chronic anxiety disorder and sudden onsets of severe panic attacks. Knowing what I know now, I wish with all my being it had never ever been prescribed to me, and without the absurd nonchalance dozens of practitioners have portrayed. I'm 32 and have been prescribed clonazepam for 14 years. I've been in situations where my health insurance is in transition and I must go off the medication abruptly - this is when I realized how deep I was. Weeks upon weeks of non-stop physical, emotional, and psychological withdrawal effects that are like hell. Words cannot accurately describe just how awful it is. This, again, has been my experience during withdrawal as a long-term clonazepam patient. All skin, especially the face, becomes numb. Vision gets fuzzy and difficult to see clearly. Panic attacks become extremely exacerbated, frequent, and debilitating. Severe irritability. Worst of all: a terrifying disconnection between your mind and body; as if you're an onlooker watching and feeling this horrible thing happen to you, but not actually feeling connected to any of it - that one is tough to explain. All of this... It can last months, maybe more. That's right. Not just some one-week hump to overcome. After finding how awful the withdrawal is, I've been attempting to wean very, very slowly down from 3 2mg doses per day to eventually zero, hopefully. After six months of gradually decreasing in dose, I'm now at 2 - 1mg doses per day, and I'm not sure how or if I can go much less than that. No doctors I've had have been of any help. The wean down was my idea, and the rate of it was also my idea based on experience. It sure would be nice to meet a doctor that truly had knowledge of this withdrawal syndrome and took it a bit more seriously. I am confident that the medication is no longer treating my anxiety disorder, but simply preventing withdrawal from the meds themselves. And there don't seem to be any good alternatives. It's a long road ahead, please think it over and over with someone knowledgeable before being so quick to embrace this miracle drug. The truth is that most of us actually need very real psychotherapy, not chemicals that run our lives. Once again, all my point of view from my personal experience. It feels very good to share this."

For Anxiety "The last 15 years of taking Klonopin have been a total improvement of my quality of life, and an improvement in anxiety to the point where I am like the friendliest guy in town, so to speak. Whereas before taking Klonopin, I had severe social phobia. As a result, the stress was definitely related to making me get cancer at 40 years of age. It works. Buspar and all the other more popular anti-anxiety meds did not work, and I don't want to stop taking Klonopin. William P."

For Anxiety "I've had panic attacks since I can remember. I recall my family doctor telling my mother that I would eventually need something for my nerves. I developed an irregular heartbeat around the age of 20. Of course, I am the last person who needed that symptom. I would go into a full-blown panic attack and end up in the ER. My family doctor talked me into taking Xanax. I took 0.5 three times a day like clockwork. Along with Tenormin for my afib for 10 years. I then switched to Klonopin 0.5 three times daily. It was a miracle. No side effects. After taking the same dose for 15 years, my new doctor dropped it to twice daily. OK for about 6 months. I've been in the ER 5 times in the last 12 months. I need some good advice."

For Anxiety "Been taking benzodiazepines for nearly 10 years now. Started with 1mg of Lorazepam once daily, but it stopped working after about 2 years. I got prescribed Clonazepam 1mg twice daily. Worked like a charm for 5 years, then stopped having any effect. Still, Clonazepam is amazing compared to Lorazepam. This is an amazing medication. I was prescribed an up-dose (2mg three times daily), but I usually only took one pill a day or two, because 2mg is very strong. I was also prescribed Xanax to take along with Clonazepam due to having a panic disorder as well as generalized anxiety, but after about a year I decided that the Xanax was pretty useless (and tasted like wet chalk), so I asked my psychiatrist to stop prescribing it. Just Clonazepam. It's great."
