For Bronchitis "My 16-year-old son had a persistent sinus and throat infection. On our second trip to an urgent care center, the doctor prescribed a Decadron shot and a 1-gram shot of Rocephin. He was not very happy to hear he was getting two shots, but nothing else had worked. The nurse came in with the shots and said both had to go in his bottom. The Decadron shot wasn’t too bad, but the Rocephin shot looked very large and was very painful. Even so, it really worked. He was sore from the Rocephin shot, but symptoms were almost completely gone the next day. I know he hated the Rocephin shot, but it really did work."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've taken all antibiotics on the market for UTIs over the years. I already had a doctor appointment scheduled for the end of the week, so I pushed through. I had never known of the shot and was startled when my doctor asked, 'You can have this shot or take a week's worth of antibiotics.' Of course, I took the shot! The initial shot wasn't bad at all. But after, it felt like someone had punched me in the butt cheek. I looked funny rubbing my cheek, but it helps disperse the fluids through your tissue better. The soreness only lasted about 2-3 hours, then it was fine. The pain from the urine infection started going away quickly, so much faster than oral medication! It is Sunday now, and already I feel so much better. Now, to await the vaccine that's in the works!"

For Middle Ear Infections "I was on holiday in the Galápagos Islands when my middle ear infection returned. I was put on amoxicillin for 7 days, but the infection was getting worse. I went completely deaf and had drainage all over my pillow every morning. I went to the hospital in Santa Cruz and was told Mesporin would be the best solution: 3 injections into my bum. I’m not scared of needles, but the amount of fluid that went into my bum was insane! It took about 7-8 seconds to get it in, and my bum was on fire. I was screaming and crying so much that I had to be given pain relief in my arm. The next day, I went back for the second injection, and they mixed an anesthetic in with the vial. This was painful but definitely manageable. On the final day, I asked if I could get it in an IV, and this was the least painful way, I was very happy. My infection still remained, so I was given another dose in the form of 500mg pills! My blood results showed the infection was decreasing, and I was given the clear to head back to sea."

Ceftriaxone for Urinary Tract Infection "I have been suffering with a UTI infection. My PCP tried all kinds of antibiotics, nothing worked. Unfortunately, I cannot take oral medication due to my stomach sensitivity. Oral medication produces acid reflux on me extremely badly. Then I went to the ER last October, I was admitted to the hospital. I was given Rocephin IV, only 1 dose. It worked, and I was sent home. I was supposed to get five days of oral treatment, but that did not happen. I did not have any pain anymore. Anywhere after a few months, it began again, and I was given the generic injection, which was painful and did not work."

For Skin and Structure Infection "I had a severe infection at a finger joint after a light dog bite. So about 30 hours later, I received a shot of IV in my left arm, it was painful to the point they had to stop and change the injection site. Reduced injection rate helped, but still was harsh. Redness in the finger diminished a lot during the night. The next morning, the doctor recommended another shot. In my right arm, this time I was apprehending pain again, but this time just a small discomfort. My observation is the last IV was really correctly in the vein and the rate of injection was adequate, even if the last 5ml was pushed by hand by the nurse. I was prescribed Amoxicillin orally for 5 days, 24 hours later, after the second IV, the swelling was gone and normal coloration. Yes, this worked well for me so far and probably saved my finger from complications. Follow your infectious disease specialist's advice, they know what they are doing."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Had 3 shots of ceftriaxone over a 5-day period. For a UTI where 2 rounds of meds already failed. This did not help either. 2 rounds of more antibiotics later, I'm still infected. Going for tests. So no luck with this drug. Took under observation because of a possible allergic reaction. After the first shot, I started to shake and almost passed out. Though this may be due to the lidocaine as it speeds up my heart and makes me shake at the dentist. Was fine with the other two. The injection sites felt lumpy and hurt on and off. 3 weeks later, I'm having some nasty pain at the area of the last injection. Exercise, sitting wrong, carrying anything, or doing things around the house causes pain that doesn't let up."

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "I was given an injection of ceftriaxone two days ago for pelvic inflammatory disease. A few hours after I received the injection, I suddenly felt lightheaded and dizzy and needed to lie down. When I woke up, I had terrible diarrhea. I ended up spending the entire night violently ill, getting intense hot flashes before vomiting, and then getting so cold that I was shivering uncontrollably. I vomited six times, and my body (especially my legs) is still in so much pain. My green discharge seems to have improved, but my pelvic pain is actually much worse now because of how much pain I'm in after vomiting and shivering. My boyfriend and I had the same food, and he was not sick, and a nurse told me this is a rare reaction to this injection."

For Kidney Infections "Went to urgent care for a presumed kidney infection (had one before, felt the same excruciating flank pain). The doctor suggested treating me right off the bat for one while we would wait for the proper lab results to come back for confirmation. Within a few hours of her poking me in the opposite hip, I felt immense relief. She prepared me for the shot itself to be painful, but I did not think it was bad at all; just a tad sore to the touch that night."

"I became diabetic in my late 60s, and for some reason, all my crowns fell out. Eventually, I started having real problems with about six teeth. I have a rider on Medicare for dental, but it does not cover most problems. So about once a month, I have to go to the emergency room. This last time, they gave me ceftriaxone, but they were out of lidocaine, so it was somehow liquid-based. It probably took her 2 minutes to get all that into my hip. I clenched the bed to help with the pain. It immediately felt like fire ants going up and down my leg on the hip she gave it to me. I kept trying to wipe them off, but there were none there. It was pretty rough. Usually, shots do not bother me, but this one was totally different. It took about 24 hours before my teeth quit hurting. Then I had to take amoxicillin for 7 days. It may not have been so bad if they were not out of lidocaine. I would do it all over again and probably will because of these recurring teeth problems. I need at least one removed."

For Urinary Tract Infection "So I just received this ceftriaxone shot. Getting it wasn't so bad, but after I got hot and sweaty, and then the pain in my arm was so bad I couldn't help but cry out in pain. It's only been a half hour, and the pain is still there. I hope it goes away soon. But will update if it works."

Ceftriaxone for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Had an unidentified insect bite and my arm swelled three times the size. Rocephin hurt like hell going into my butt but worth it in the end. Do I recommend, yes if there is no alternative..."
