For Strep Throat "I was prescribed this for suspected strep throat. I had fever, ear pain, and swollen tonsils, so my doctor went ahead and prescribed this before the culture came back. The first day I had loose stools and nausea. This continued until the fifth day, I had muscle pain that OTC pain meds couldn't relieve. It was a struggle to walk to the bathroom. Pounding headache, sensitivity to light. Watery diarrhea, severe stomach cramps. Fever and body chills-my entire body was trembling, and teeth were chattering. I've taken many antibiotics in the past, and this is the first one that has given me trouble. I wish I had been prescribed amoxicillin, I tolerate it much better."

"I finished my course of this 10 days ago and had to take it twice a day for 14 days to treat a bad UTI. It cleared out the infection, but ever since taking it, I’ve had some weird side effects that I didn’t think were related until I started looking up the “rarer” effects that other people got. Even 10 days after, I’m still having abdominal pain, bloating, and pain in my back around the kidneys. At first, I thought the infection came back, but I’ve had no actual UTI symptoms. This is a very strong antibiotic, and I know it probably obliterated my gut bacteria, which may be the reason for all this pain. It’s not debilitating, more just uncomfortable, but the fact that it’s lasting so long is making me very nervous. I’m still nauseous all the time. I’ve always had bad anxiety and health anxiety, but it has gotten significantly worse since this med, my heart rate is consistently elevated, and I keep thinking that I’m dying. Really hoping these effects aren’t long-term."

For Sinusitis "Bad cold turned to sinusitis. Up through day 6 of cefdinir, no problem. Morning of day 7 woke up a little queasy, called doctor who said to stick with it, but by evening I was vomiting with loose stool. Did not take evening dose, called Dr. next day (still queasy). Switched to doxycycline today. It was in my record that I had taken cefdinir before--apparently with no problem. As to sinus infection, can't say how effective. Mucus clear, but still stuffed up and run-down feeling."

For Sinusitis "I have S.V.T. (afib) and am allergic to penicillin. So, I was prescribed cefdinir. The pharmacist strongly suggested I take it with a meal, so I waited until lunch to take it, then the 9-hour drive home. By the time we got home, I felt like I had developed the flu and didn't give it a second thought. The next two days were filled with nausea, heavy diarrhea, vomiting, intense pressure in my ears and face, the worst sinus swelling and overproduction of mucus I've ever had, intense anxiety, irregular heartbeat, which set off SVT episodes, and inability to eat (nausea, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing with the amount of pressure in my head and throat), which created a cycle of intensifying adverse effects. I went to the ER last night, got a steroid shot, 5 days of prednisone, and was told to continue. Felt better, came home, took cefdinir, and it all started over. Even the shot wasn't helping. I'm almost 24 hours after stopping and still having heart episodes. Others are coming and going."

For Strep Throat "After one day of having an incredibly sore throat, I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with strep throat. Since I’m allergic to penicillin, I was prescribed cefdinir. Got rid of strep in a matter of a few days, but a side effect was painful diarrhea. Before taking this medication, this was not a symptom at all. Slowly, I stopped taking the medication because the strep had vanished completely, and the diarrhea was getting worse every day. Now that I am completely off the antibiotic, the diarrhea is worse than ever. I’m extremely nauseous, I feel like I have a fever, and my head is killing me. As for my throat, I feel like the strep could possibly be coming back, but no definitive pain yet. Worth it at first, but the side effects, and mostly the afterwards side effects, are worse than the original throat pain."

For Sinusitis "I am a 47-year-old female who has asthma. I was only breathing 200 on my peak flow meter when I should have a peak flow of 400. I had bronchitis from catching a cold. My doctor prescribed this to me, and I got a horrible headache and felt nauseous after the first pill, so I stopped taking them. I started reading about food combining, changed my diet, and shortly after, became healthier."

For Strep Throat "Was prescribed this for severe strep throat, which got a lot better within 2 days. But it made me so nauseous, even with probiotics and food. Strep returned immediately after I finished the antibiotics."

For Middle Ear Infections "Prescribed for ruptured eardrum/ear infection. On day 6, while my ear is much better, I feel nauseous and have several loose stools a day. Also feeling very tired. I'm taking a probiotic at bedtime, but it doesn't seem to be doing much. Still have 4 days to go, not sure if I'll keep taking it or not. Seeing ENT doc tomorrow, so we will see what he has to say. Plain old amoxicillin works for me without the nasty side effects."

"I’m a nurse that got exposed to meningitis at work. Went to the urgent care with the worst sore throat of my life and a fever of 100.7. After 1st dose of cefdinir and prednisone 20 mg, I felt immediate relief, but after the 2nd dose, I became so nauseous that I vomited. Just reached out to my primary MD for nausea med since I have 6 more days of this antibiotic. Hope this will take care of the unpleasant side effect."

For Sinusitis "Was prescribed this for suspected strep throat. I had a fever, so the doctor went ahead and prescribed this to me. First day, I had loose stools and nausea. This continued until the fifth day, I had severe muscle pain and a severe headache. It was a struggle to just walk to the bathroom. Right now, I have watery diarrhea and stomach cramps. Earlier today, I had a fever and severe body chills. Over-the-counter pain meds have not made a dent. Last night, I was tossing and turning in pain and got very little sleep. Cure worse than the cause! I've tolerated many other antibiotics very well in the past, and I will never allow my doctor to prescribe this to me again."

For Strep Throat "I've had strep throat for a little less than a week. Two days ago, the doc prescribed cefdinir. The good is that my throat itself feels better. The bad? Nothing else does. The foggy 'stoned' feeling that always accompanies the majority of my infections is still going super strong. I'm still rocking a 103* fever, my energy level hasn't picked up one iota, and I can't eat anything because I'm nauseous, and I'm partially nauseous because I can't eat anything. I'm cycling between chills and sweats in a way I can't keep track of. To me, cefdinir is minor league. Never will I go back to it for strep."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Prescribed cefdinir 300 mg (BID x 7 days) to prevent infection (I have artificial hips) after foot surgery. I've only had three doses so far. I've had a bad headache for about 18 hours, intense stomach pain, overall weakness and exhaustion, plus a little nausea. Taking with food doesn't seem to make a difference. I do not feel my symptoms are severe enough to discontinue use... yet. I will continue monitoring the stomach pain and weakness, as they are not pleasant."

For Strep Throat "I went to the doctor three days ago, and my doctor prescribed cefdinir. I have a double ear infection, sinus infection, bronchitis, and there was the possibility of strep. So she decided to kill four birds with one stone. I have been running a 101-102 temp while alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol every two to three hours. I can't manage to get warm and stay that way. I've been battling not having a voice for about seven and a half months now. I almost had it back till I got sick this time, and ever since I started taking this medicine, it's getting worse. I get nauseous even if I eat with it."

"I am on day 3 of 300 mg twice a day for a UTI. I don’t know why this ER doctor gave me this awful medication. Last night I had horrific nightmares all night and woke up 50 times. So nauseated. Tonight I just had sleep paralysis so bad it went on for what seemed like forever. I could only open my eyes. Horrific. With all the options of medications out there, why was I prescribed this?!? I am not happy. I have Cipro, I am switching ASAP."

Cefdinir for Sinusitis "This medicine made me feel worse than the original symptoms. I usually have a high tolerance for meds, don’t usually get dizzy or feel nauseous ever. But this medicine made me feel as if I was suffering from being hungover. I would drive 8 hours later after taking the meds and would feel like I could black out whenever. I would randomly feel nauseous. The headaches were a constant theme. Now that I’ve read the comments, I can attribute some of the diarrhea I had to it. I went back to the doctor and was prescribed Doxycycline, so I’m on day 4 and I feel better but still suffer from a cough."

"I was prescribed cefdinir 300 mg for a UTI. I have taken it 3 out of the 7 days prescribed. I have severe diarrhea. I have called Dr. waiting on callback. I take meds for IBS and diverticulitis. It has been so bad overnight that I even took Imodium, which hasn't helped. Nauseated since yesterday, fatigue also."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "I’m taking it for tonsillitis, and my symptoms have begun to improve after 3 doses, but boy, did it come with a cost. To be fair, I was also prescribed prednisone, so that is probably also helping. After I took the second dose, I felt nauseous and ended up vomiting. It also gave me a migraine that lasted all night. I’ve been told by doctors before that I have an “iron stomach” as I’ve been on long doses of antibiotics before, such as clindamycin, without any side effects, but the second dose of cefdinir took me out! I was even taking probiotics too. Be warned!"

"For a UTI, took 2/day x 10 days as prescribed and I do not plan on taking this again. It caused nausea with vomiting most mornings (not pregnant at my age), then colitis with bad diarrhea! With all of the diarrhea I will be blessed to not get another UTI, which would defeat the purpose of taking it to begin with…"

For Sinusitis "Unlike most of the reviews on here, I did fine on the medication. I was on doxycycline for a week and then amox-clav (amoxicillin with clavulanic acid) for a few days, and none of it helped. Cefdinir hasn't worked as fast as I'd hoped, but it does seem to be working. I'm on day 6 and haven't had any side effects. I can't sleep that well the last few nights, but I'm not sure if that is from the meds or not. No nausea or diarrhea. I have been taking it at 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. every day and making sure I don't eat dairy 2 hours before or after taking the pill. I also drink a lot of water and eat yogurt to get probiotics back."
