Buspirone for Anxiety "After a month of 10 mg twice a day, I still feel anxiety, and I am very moody. Palpitations come and go. Not a very good medicine for anxiety."

For Panic Disorder "I’m a 40 YOF, 103 lbs. Was given this to take twice daily in replacement of 0.5 lorazepam for panic attacks. My lorazepam was a very low dosage and used maybe every couple of months. I used it the day after I had to drive in the metroplex, as that’s a trigger for me! The lorazepam calmed me back to my normal self. Buspirone was prescribed at 0.5 mg twice a day. I’m now on my third dose, haven’t slept, extremely snappy, angry, and jittery, like I have had far too much coffee! Extreme leg pain and dizziness along with diarrhea. Odd pain in my ears! Had to call in to work today due to complete lack of sleep! A terrible headache and a bit of confusion. Now I can explain being confused due to lack of sleep, please explain my desire to now organize everything in my home. I’m already a bit obsessed about organization, I like things in order. If this is the rubbish I will have to work through or deal with to possibly not have a panic attack, I’ll take the panic attack over this nightmare. I will NOT continue this med."

For Anxiety "Took 5 mg buspirone, and it felt like a sugar pill, a placebo. Was doing nothing for anxiety. Bumped up to 10-12.5 mg, 3x daily, and it messed me up. Extremely agitated, restlessness, couldn't sit still, tachycardia. Felt like I needed to run 5 miles a day to burn off the feeling. One benefit, though, is that I did feel extremely happy. But my issue was never depression, it is anxiety. Come on, docs and government regulators. Just give us the ones that work, not this serotonin junk. Ativan/Klonopin/Valium work. Benzos work, simple as that. They are the most effective anxiety drugs out there. And meditation. I do qigong meditation daily, which has helped me more than any of these drugs. You need to learn to stay balanced and be grounded constantly. Also, situational exposure helps. If you are anxious about flying, fly every month. Do it constantly. It becomes easier the more that you do it. You won't be anxious after 500 flights."

For Panic Disorder "I am 28, female. I was prescribed buspirone for panic attacks and anxiety. The medication worked for about a month with the panic attacks, but once the panic attacks ended and I just had anxiety, this medication went downhill fast! I was experiencing major dizziness and extreme dark thoughts. I would wake up at 2 or 3 AM in pure fright over my thoughts. I called my doctor, and she told me to stop taking the medication. She switched me to Lexapro 5 mg, and I can honestly say 2 to 4 days after getting off of buspirone, the dark horror thoughts went away, and I was able to sleep again. I feel so much better on the Lexapro."

Buspirone for Anxiety "While the success rate for BuSpar has always been approximately 20 percent since inception, it seems to be making a comeback with psychiatrists since they don't like prescribing benzos. Nothing has changed, this is medication with low efficacy and many intolerable side effects."

"Horrible medication, you feel like a zombie, and it makes you go into a manic mindset. Disconnect from reality feels extremely horrible, causes more depression. I don’t even know why they prescribe this. I guess everyone is different, but I think doctors just throw this at patients, and it can make your anxiety much worse. Not a clear headspace at all. Strongly recommend trying something else, like trazodone."

For Panic Disorder "Was successfully taking Xanax for hypertension and panic for 10 years. New doctor said Xanax is no good for panic disorder and refused to refill my prescription. He put me on buspirone. After only a couple of days, I became manic. No sleep. Terror, intense fear, panic. Could not think or eat. Found a new doctor who told me to stop taking it immediately. He put me back on Xanax and my symptoms resolved within a few days. He told me never to take an SSRI or a medication like buspirone as it could cause uncontrolled hypertension and mania in me."

Buspirone for Panic Disorder "Wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy. Just wanted to share that I had the worst panic attacks of my life on this medicine. I would shake uncontrollably at random times, get extremely dizzy, and feel brain zaps throughout the day. I was on 5 mg, and this medicine had this much effect on me. Made me extremely depressed, and my doctor didn't even know it was the medicine that was causing these side effects. Please be careful when taking this medicine, it can be very dangerous."

For Anxiety "I have been taking this a week now at 7.5 mg twice a day for anxiety, and the side effects are awful. My short-term memory is declining, I'm even more anxious and depressed, have major brain fog, and bouts of bad anxiety. Hopefully, just strong side effects that will go away soon, but I'm in major doubt. I don’t recommend taking this medication at all, absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had."

For Anxiety "This just didn’t work for me. It was the first medication I had ever taken for anxiety/chronic dizziness. The only thing I noticed was increased drowsiness. Decided to switch to an SSRI and had near immediate improvement."

For Anxiety "DO NOT TAKE THIS. I am 18 years old and have anxiety. The doctors told me buspirone was the perfect fix for it with little side effects. After about a month, I got bumped up to 7.5 mg 3x a day. I had about one week where I felt back to normal, then boom. I developed short-term memory loss, and I felt like I was in a simulation. I felt like I was in a dream and had no clue how to get out of it. The doctors told me to keep taking it, but I knew I couldn’t. I stopped it cold turkey and have been off for about 5 days and am still feeling the effects of it. This is an awful drug."

Buspirone for Panic Disorder "This is medical torture in capsule form. It does not treat panic disorder and chemically isn’t intended to. Had more panic attacks since starting the BuSpar than I did in order to get a prescription for it. The dizziness when you take it could be bearable if it was helpful, but I’ve also had two grand mal seizures since starting, even after almost two months entirely seizure-free before this. Truly miserable."

For Anxiety "Currently taking along with bupropion. I have been on bupropion for years, and my anxiety level has always been high. Have taken buspirone 7.5 mg now 3 daily for just over a week and am ready to call the physician and scream. This is horrible: heart palpitations, lightheaded, shaking, irritable, racing heart... and on and on. Seriously, feel like I’m losing my mind. No medication that is supposed to remedy a condition should make it worse before improving it."

For Panic Disorder "Was given this to try, despite voicing that I didn’t do well with antihistamines. Gave it a try and had the worst reaction of anything I’ve tried. Sweating, warm body flushes, itchy head, racing heart, paranoia, anxiety, and a nightmare. NP said it would only cause dizziness, but as you can tell by the low rating, that’s not the only side effect. Really bummed this didn’t work, but I know that everyone is different. I was told to take 5 mg 2x a day but only took it 1 time and then threw it away. Not for me!"

For Anxiety "A very strange drug. I have been on this drug for about a week or so, and my conditions have gotten worse. When I started it (10 mgs, two 5 mg pills a day), I didn't feel any different, although I noticed I felt 'foggy' and not present. Around day 4 is when it started to bother me, so I boosted my dose to 15 mgs, but it made things a lot worse. I feel anxious, extremely confused, and extremely foggy, almost near fainting 24/7. I just feel weak and not alive, like I am piloting a body in a dream. My doctor told me to continue it, but I am afraid of things getting worse as it does every day, so I am going to start weaning myself off it in hopes of making things better. I was already foggy before taking this, and I understand most anti-anxiety drugs will make you feel worse before feeling better, but this is truly the worst thing I have experienced."

Buspirone for Anxiety "This stuff isn't for me. I took BuSpar 7.5 mg for two weeks and said enough. 15-20 mins after taking it, I felt like I was on an elevator moving up and down at warp speed. It made my anxiety much worse, and it made me super angry. If I took my prescribed Adderall with it, then I was so annoyed, terrible mood, anxious, and tense. Even without the Adderall, this made me tense and made my jaws clench. It gave me increased body tension and unusable energy. I was always wanting to run a marathon but didn’t actually have the energy to run. I’ve been off it for 5 days, and I’m still detoxing. Never again."

For Anxiety "I suffer from PMDD, a debilitating neuroendocrine disease now listed in the ICD-11. It's a genetic defect in the brain that causes an allergic autoimmune response to my own changing hormones. It cripples me during my luteal phase, 14 days every month. Psychological symptoms include paranoia, rage, lethargic exhaustion, mind-numbing brain fog, feeling intensely overwhelmed, uncontrollable crying, obsessive thoughts, suicidal ideation, self-loathing, disassociation, general anxiety and panic attacks, intense food cravings, insomnia, decreased libido, nightmares, etc. I was prescribed Buspar for the anxiety, initially at 5mg twice a day. 2-3 months later raised to 10mg twice a day. And currently at 15mg twice a day. It does nothing for my anxiety. My doctors do not want to take me off it as I'm also on Wellbutrin XL 450mg. They say that the Wellbutrin might increase my anxiety without the Buspar. Anyway, bottom line: Buspar does nothing for me at all. Very disappointing."

For Anxiety "I started experiencing intense, intrusive thoughts shortly after starting the medication buspirone, and by week 3, I had completely lost the ability to sleep. Two weeks after discontinuing the medication, the tremors and face twitches have continued, as well as the difficulty with short-term memory, and now I have exposed veins on my forehead at the age of 20 years old!"

For Panic Disorder "Diagnosed with panic/anxiety disorder. I was on buspirone 5 mg/2 times/day, took one at 6:30 a.m. and the other at 5:30 p.m. It seemed to calm me down a bit. Later, the doctor bumped it to 5 mg/3 times/day. During the whole time I was taking buspirone, I had very vivid and unpleasant dreams every single night. When I was on 5 mg/3 times/day, I started having scary nightmares. I had to cut the dose back down to 5 mg/2 times/day. It took 6-8 weeks for me to feel something, but not long after that I had to quit because of the unpleasant dreams. I’ve been off of it for over 3 months now, but I’m still having vivid dreams every night, and most of them are not good. It works for some people, but for me, I wish I had not taken it."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I have struggled with depression for about 8 years, and recently my anxiety has been exacerbating my depression. Because of this, my doctor decided to add BuSpar to the 150 mg of Zoloft I was already taking. It was absolutely horrible. She said that I should be able to feel it about a week after I began taking it. By the end of that week, I couldn't go through an entire day without breaking down and sobbing. One day, I was in the guidance counselor's office by third period just sobbing and hyperventilating, and I completely missed fourth period because of it. I felt completely numb and apathetic, and my depression was almost as bad as it was before I began taking any medication. When I told my parents about that, they immediately told me that I would stop taking it, and after a few weeks, I've begun to feel more like my normal self. This medication might work for other people, but for me, it was the worst medication I've ever tried."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I started buspirone 1.5 years ago for GAD. I took myself off of buspirone. My attacks started again 3 months ago. My doctor put me back on buspirone. It started with not sleeping through the night and then heart rates of 111-148 beats per minute. My anxiety and attacks are worse than ever now. I stopped taking buspirone this time for good. I experienced bad dreams almost every night or weird vivid dreams. I thought it was the Ambien, but I haven’t taken Ambien in 2 weeks because I was trying to see which medicine was affecting me the most. When I took Ambien, it was PRN 2-3 times per week on nights that I knew would be difficult. I’ve researched buspirone, and surprisingly, there is nothing out there that talks about why the brand name BuSpar was discontinued, and there is little info about buspirone. Nonetheless, the side effects reported are sleep latency, sleep disturbances, heart palpitations, confusion, etc."

Buspirone for Anxiety "After reading all the negative reviews, I feel relieved to know I'm not alone. A few days ago was the three-month mark of when I started BuSpar for anxiety. I've been on Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and prescribed Lexapro, and that was a big no (I didn't even take it after reading reviews). All SSRIs affected my mind in weird ways, and I never knew if my feelings were my own or from the drugs. I stopped everything except Xanax, as it works miracles. However, it's hard to get a hold of Xanax anymore. I started BuSpar, and the last three months I have not slept once unless I had a drink or smoked. I would not even sleep for 10 minutes on days on end. My anxiety was worse, barely felt any emotions, had no motivation for anything, and was always tired with a foggy mind (feeling of not being present). I just stopped cold turkey, so I'm hoping BuSpar was the cause and things go back to normal. I recommend finding a psychiatrist who will prescribe Xanax."

For Anxiety "I’ve been taking buspirone for almost two years. It does nothing for anxiety or paranoia. My nurses/doctors won’t prescribe me a benzodiazepine, which would help me so much. I’m better off not taking it because it doesn’t work at all."

Buspirone for Anxiety "No difference, took for 4 months up to six 10 mg tablets a day. It felt like a placebo maker. Instead, 0.5 Xanax works perfectly. But most likely, the doctor won't prescribe it for you."
