For High Cholesterol "I have been on Lipitor for two weeks and will stop tomorrow. My legs are hurting and I cannot sleep. For the first few days, I was fine, but now I ache from my hips down to my calves. I also have stomach cramps. This is not for me, I will tell my doctor this week and hopefully can try something else."

For High Cholesterol "I was prescribed Lipitor by a GP, due to my high LDL cholesterol level. I was in excellent condition, BMI under 25, surfing and bike riding daily. Within 24 hours of my first pill, I experienced joint pains. I have osteoarthritis, so I assumed it was just a flare-up. The next day, I had muscle soreness and weakness. The third day, all this was worse; realizing it had to be the Lipitor, I stopped taking the pills and consulted a specialist. I had dark urine. It was determined that I had rhabdomyolysis. I ended up losing 5 lbs of muscle mass, and it took weeks for me to recover from the extreme weakness and fatigue. The specialist told me that if I had continued to take the Lipitor for a few more days, I probably would have been in a very serious condition."

For High Cholesterol "Aug 8 (Reuters) - Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer is facing a mounting wave of lawsuits by women who allege that the company knew about possible serious side effects of its blockbuster anti-cholesterol drug Lipitor but never properly warned the public. In the past five months, a Reuters review of federal court filings shows, lawsuits by U.S. women who say that taking Lipitor gave them type-2 diabetes have shot up from 56 to almost 1,000. Lawsuits began to be filed not long after the Food and Drug Administration in 2012 warned that Lipitor and other statins had been linked to incidents of memory loss and a “small increased risk” of diabetes. According to plaintiffs’ lawyers, women face a higher risk than men of developing diabetes from using Lipitor and gain fewer benefits."

For High Cholesterol "I am an otherwise healthy 23-year-old female. My new doctor ran a battery of blood tests and discovered my total cholesterol was 272! Started me on 20 mg Lipitor, which brought it down to 202 after 2 months. Dosage was increased to 80 mg since I have experienced no side effects. It is now at 142 after 4 months in total. Doctor is considering adding something else to get it down a bit more in 2 more months."

For High Cholesterol "My doctor prescribed 10 mg due to high cholesterol. I had “above the range” results in most of the lipid categories. After just 4 months and no side effects, my numbers are all significantly lower, and all are within the normal ranges. I was shocked, but very pleased!"

For High Cholesterol, Familial Heterozygous "I have hereditary high cholesterol and have taken statins on and off since I was 15 years old. My overall cholesterol at age 15 was 370. It has run as high as 460 when I wasn't taking a statin (usually Lipitor). Problem is my bowels stay messed up. I stay constipated all the time, and I suffer from anal leakage, which is highly embarrassing, and I feel like I'm constantly thinking I may smell bad. I keep baby wipes to try to keep myself clean without taking 3 showers a day. Do all statins cause this? I'm finding it harder and harder to accept and feel like just quitting statins altogether. I know that sounds foolish, but so does anal leakage."

For High Cholesterol "Lowers cholesterol but I have the oddest side effect - I call it itchy feet. In the bottoms only and nothing stops the itchy feeling, except Neurontin. It's an internal nerve itch, not external. I was scratching on concrete, anything to make it stop."

For Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease "71 years. Heart attack with 5 stents. Automatically prescribed this as part of the 'cardiac cocktail,' as they call it. Had numbers getting slightly high for both cholesterol and BP before HA. Within 3 months, this drug injured my liver, and my GP stopped it. Continue to be tested to see if the liver will recover. Numbers are down, so I have my fingers crossed. I have been unable to use the gym due to muscle pain, which is now subsiding, and hopefully, I will be able to utilize the gym again. My mood was adversely affected, with me becoming easily irritated and angry inappropriately. The pain over my shoulders and between my ribs was so painful and exhausting. And then it started to affect my memory, which became so disconcerting. The daily dose was 80, and if the liver heals, we will look at the minimum dose of a statin and see how that works."

For High Cholesterol "This is some crazy stuff. Two weeks into taking Lipitor, I woke up with huge red spots in the bends of my arm. It actually looked like eczema, and I have never had eczema. I had a stiff neck, and I had rashes on both my forearms and on the front of my legs. Eyelids were droopy, and the dry skin was horrible. My legs and arms were so dry and flaky. I stopped taking it as soon as I read the reviews. Rashes are clearing up after a week off Lipitor. This was a horrible allergic reaction."

For Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease "I was put on 20 mg of Lipitor for high LDL and atherosclerosis of the aorta. I also have a hole in my heart. I started getting headaches and migraines 24/7, memory loss, and wicked moodiness (and I'm normally a happy person). It took me a little over a week to realize it was the Lipitor. I stopped immediately, it was hard for me to work, and I had no personality because I felt awful. I have to get the groin heart surgery done to close the hole in my heart anyway, so I am willing to take that risk rather than take that medication ever again!"

For High Cholesterol "Doctor put me on Lipitor after my heart attack. It destroyed my memory over 6 months. Short-term memory almost non-existent; large gaps in long-term memory. I’d meet someone on the street whom I’d worked with for 20 years and could not remember their name. It also made me very moody and a hard person to be around. I lost several good friends because of things I said and destroyed a 20-year relationship. My wife threatened to leave me if I didn’t stop taking it. I stopped, my cholesterol went high again, and I don’t care. That was ten years ago, and my short-term memory has pretty much returned, but there are still large gaps in long-term memory. I don’t care how high my cholesterol goes; I will never take another statin."

For Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease "My cholesterol was high, and after some blood work, my doctor told me that my risk factor was high. I was put on atorvastatin 40 mg. My cholesterol went down, and I am doing well. I have no side effects so far. I continue to do blood work, and it's fine."

"Started on this med a few years ago at 10mg. A year later bumped it up to 20mg. I do get tight and sore legs, but mostly when I walk long distances. I'm also not very active, so that may be the cause. I do have dizziness, get disoriented, and have some memory issues. I'm also on a lot of meds for other issues with some of the same side effects, so I'm not sure. Again this applies to me and my body. Overall, my cholesterol is dropping and the few side effects are things my other meds do anyway. My labs haven't shown any kidney or liver issues. Just knowing that my cholesterol is high has changed my eating habits, so I'm hoping to bring it down so I can get off of it eventually"

For High Cholesterol "I haven't been on this medication very long, but so far, the only adverse side effects I have had are insomnia, occasionally racing heart, and nightmares. Yes, you heard right. I dunno why, but this med gives me higher than usual nightmares. I also take lisinopril for high blood pressure, though, so maybe it's the combination, I dunno, but yeah. Nightmares overall, it has not been too bad, but I'm on a really low dose of 10 mg of Lipitor, so maybe that's why I haven't had any major side effects."

For High Cholesterol "I am a male in my late 40s, and I have artery plaque. The doctor prescribed me 40 mg Lipitor. My LDL was originally 137. I avoid eating meat now and exercise most days of the week. My LDL declined to 67. I have not felt any side effects, so this medication works great for me."

For High Cholesterol "Previous experience with other statins and the fact that I have fibromyalgia pain on a regular basis should have been a red flag but wasn't. It took 2 years to realize the tailbone pain and rectal bleeding were caused by Lipitor, but the light bulb finally lit. I went off Lipitor, symptoms subsided. I even had a perfect colonoscopy while bleeding. No more statins for me."

For High Cholesterol, Familial Homozygous "I took this for 2+ months after taking 40 mg Crestor for years, and it started causing muscle cramps. The doc gave me Lipitor 80 mg, which caused severe myopathy and was so bad for me I thought it was the end of me!!! 54-year-old male on Crestor 40 mg for 15 years and stable at 200 total cholesterol. I think they gave me too strong a dose too quickly."

For High Cholesterol "Just take a low dose of niacin (500 mg) and TMG (500 mg), you will see a huge difference. Cholesterol will drop (bad), and good will go up. I had similar negative side effects to Lipitor that are reported here. Now I have no side effects, and cholesterol has gone down, the bad has gone down, and the good has gone up. And I have high energy levels. P.S. I am a diabetic also. The TMG also has a calming effect. I am not a doctor, just telling people what worked for me. Forgot to mention my triglycerides went way down also."

For High Cholesterol "I began taking atorvastatin after cardiac bypass surgery. Four arteries 75%+ blocked. Starting at 40 mg, my LDL cholesterol level dropped dramatically, and my HDL climbed slightly. Had some issues with muscle cramping, especially in legs, so Dr. cut dosage to 20 mg. After 6 months on lower dosage, my HDL is 58, LDL is 42, triglycerides are 56, total cholesterol 106. Cardiac doc says these are great numbers, and muscle problems are minimal, with no other side effects. Heart surgery is no fun at all, do what you can to avoid it."

"I took Lipitor for nearly two weeks under the doctor’s recommendation. I had to stop taking the medication as I had adverse side effects of severe muscle pain in my shins and upper arms. I felt extremely tired and dizzy, and my memory slowed. I am no longer taking this medication."
