Atomoxetine for ADHD "I have been taking this medication for about a week now for ADD at 40 mg. I had nausea the first couple of days and slight headaches. I decided to take one day off from it, and I have had a migraine all day. Medicine can sort of help with focus, especially for me since I'm severely scatterbrained and forgetful, and it definitely suppresses appetite."

For ADHD "I am a 26-year-old female, have had ADHD since I was a child but stopped medication until 2 weeks ago. I used to have to take Concerta as a child. I started 2 weeks ago today on 25 mg of atomoxetine twice a day. So far, I don't feel very different. The first week, I was a bit nauseous and threw up once; overdid it on caffeine...be careful, but at week two, I'm fine. I'm not a zombie, but then again, I'm the mother of a 3-year-old girl and a full-time college student, so maybe I'm just used to being sleepy? I will come back and update in two more weeks :) Hoping to see if I can retain information I read better and have more motivation. Not really sure what to rate since I haven't felt anything yet...so disregard for now, lol. Oh, also, it's like really expensive...so if it doesn't work, I'll have to find something else."

For ADHD "The first day of this medicine, I could tell it helped so much. 18 mg. I have tried at least 9 antidepressants, and all made me feel awful. This medicine works for my type of ADHD. I am 58 and sad it took doctors so long to put me on correct meds! It is a life change for me! We have to keep trying different meds and eat clean!"

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I am an adult with ADD. I took Strattera according to my doctor's recommendations, starting with 25 mg and upping the dosage to 80 mg gradually for 6 weeks. I noticed nausea almost immediately after I started taking the medicine, along with unusual bouts of tiredness. I continued with the plan, as I was told some of the initial side effects would ease as my body became accustomed. The side effects began to get worse, with frequent sweats, occasional sore throat, EXTREME tiredness, and the worst constipation I have ever had. I will say that my ability to stay focused was improved dramatically, but the side effects made it impossible to stay on the medicine."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I was prescribed Strattera for ADD, 40 mg, and I was only on it for 6 days. I was warned about the side effect of having nausea and to eat before taking meds in the morning. I started Strattera on a Saturday morning, and by that night I had diarrhea so bad that I thought I would have to sleep sitting on the toilet. I also had the feelings of being constantly angry, I had really bad headaches, depression, tiredness, it worsened my anxiety, and any time I would eat, I ended up on the toilet for quite a while. I was put on Strattera to help me with my ADD lack of concentration, etc., needless to say, it didn't work whatsoever. My poor butt thanked me when I quit taking it, hahaha."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "While taking Strattera, it didn't really help with my ADHD, but it did cause unwanted nausea, and once I reached my target 80 mg dose, I began to get extremely hot, then started to sweat a lot, and finally threw up the Strattera."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I’ve been on this medication since July of 2024, and it has been a miracle drug. I was hesitant to add on to my stimulant (Adderall), but the impulsivity that comes with taking stimulants was becoming a bit much, so I asked my doctor if there was anything we could do/add. He started me on 25 mg once a day, and I am now on 60 mg a day. Starting it is rough, I will say that… I was extremely nauseous and dizzy (almost like I was drunk), but it goes away after about two weeks, so you have to either ride the wave or stop it. I decided to ride the wave, and I’m so glad I did! It’s helped my impulsivity and overall mood."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I am on a trial pack starting from 25 mg with an increase of 15 - 20 mg a week. I am at my second week at 40 mg, and so far all I feel is the side effects. I found that if I take it on an empty stomach, I get extremely nauseous for about an hour or two. I can't really tell if it's working yet since I'm only in my second week, but so far I'm not too optimistic. I was on Wellbutrin before, and that had little to no effect on me. I don't feel depressed at all, but I will say my anxiety has diminished. As for the ADD, I guess I'll just have to wait and see."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I'm a 24-year-old female who was prescribed Strattera and Ciprolex combined. I have been diagnosed with ADHD and mild depression. I was on Ciprolex for a number of years before Strattera and had no side effects, but when I started taking Strattera, within 2 days, I had heart palpitations, dizziness, sleepiness, and nausea. I stayed on the medication because I could not focus on even the most basic of tasks, so I dealt with these side effects. After a year, I started to feel great!! So, I weaned myself off, and within 2 months, I became such an angry, depressed person, filled with anxiety over nothing. Anxiety to the point where I thought I was going to be sick. So now I'm stuck dealing with these pills or being worse than before."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I'm a woman in my mid-20s, a petite thing with a fast metabolism, under 120 lbs. So I was started on 10 mg, 1 pill a day, the lowest dosage from what I've seen, and I took this for two days. Strattera gave me the WORST side effects I've ever dealt with in a medication, constant nausea and hunger (it suppresses the appetite, NOT a good feeling) for a week so far, inconsistent tiredness, mood swings, headaches, restless leg syndrome symptoms. I keep feeling a tingling/pins and needles or tickle feeling in my left leg and foot AND my upper middle chest. It kept me up at night, and I jolted around for hours struggling to get a wink of sleep because the feeling just made me need to move! The last thing I need is less food to eat. When I started getting my appetite back and felt hungry and ate WITHOUT NAUSEA, I almost cried (in joy, of course). Yeah, this stuff was not worth it, I would never take this for weeks on end."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I’ve tried most, if not all of the ADHD medications, and this is the only one to work. However, I have found the side effects to be unbearable. It causes the worst nausea that makes you want to skip breakfast and lunch. I have tried nausea medications, but they just create more problems. The only way to reduce the nausea is to eat, which is the one thing I just don’t want to do. So, I’m stuck without medication."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I had a bad reaction from Ritalin, so I was given Strattera. Strattera gave me, and still gives me, a nauseous feeling. I always take it with food and after driving to avoid this side effect as much as possible. At times, it gives me headaches and irritability due to me feeling off. It is very effective in controlling my hyperactivity. I am much more attentive. Its benefits outweigh its current side effects. I recommend talking to your doctor and to keep trying new medicines to find out what works best for you. I gave it a 6/10. It's expensive, around $140."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "26 yr old, 3 weeks on 40 mg Strattera. The first few days I was slightly nauseous for an hour and felt on edge with the smallest things. Day one, I fell asleep unintentionally for 2 hrs after work. The tiredness has not yet left. Currently, the nausea has pretty much gone away, but I feel distant from what’s going on around me. I zone out in thought and don’t feel motivated, where before the medication I would have moments of energy to get something done and hopefully finish it. I’m drinking coffee all day to stay awake, and it's not having much of an effect. I have noticed the racing thoughts and the need to be doing something has gone away, but almost in a bad way. All the reviews are saying to give it 4-6 weeks, so I’m hoping for the best. (Almost didn’t finish this review because I didn’t care to after starting it)"

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I have been looking for a medication that will keep me at a stable pace all day, not with the several ups and downs I experience on Motiron and Ritalin. I have tried Adderall, Ritalin, Strattera, and more than 3 other medications. But of all the medications I have tried, Strattera gave me the worst side effects by far. I felt sick to my stomach, irritable, toxic, I had a headache for 3-4 hours a day, and the come down was terrible. I went through extreme periods of depression and anxiety while on this medication for only 2 weeks! I know some people can feel the effects after a few weeks, but for me, it just wasn't worth it to continue. Hope it works for others, but this non-stimulant was all side effects and no help for my ADHD."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I was okay at first. Then, 4 weeks into taking this, I'm tired, sluggish, itchy, irritable, constipated, nauseous, headaches, and having horrible, crazy dreams. This drug needs to be taken off the market with all the side effects. I can't believe doctors actually prescribe this drug, and I'm in the process of looking for a new one after he put me on this. Don't take this medication unless you don't want to poop or you want to call off sick because you think you have COVID or the flu due to the horrible side effects. I would give a zero for the rating. But that's not an option."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "It didn’t work, and I wasted weeks increasing the doses (with horrible side effects) to prove that it didn’t work. There were a couple of days with the high dose that seemed like it was doing something. I had terrible hot flashes, chills, nausea, palpitations, and they lasted for weeks. With the first dose, it took me also one day for the side effects to disappear, but with the higher dose, it took 3 weeks to completely disappear without bringing any good effect."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "I've been taking Strattera since I was finally diagnosed in February with predominately inattentive type ADHD, and I think I might stop taking it altogether. It's helped with my attention span a little, but the side effects largely overshadow this. I have never experienced such agonizing headaches since I started taking this medication, to the point where I've had to call off work several times because I'm so nauseous from the pain. It might just be the combination of medications (I also take Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and Trazodone), but I'd rather live without the headaches than continue taking Strattera, hoping it will one day work."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "45-year-old woman, 138 lbs, 5'7''. Started at 25 mg and titrated slowly. Noticed within a week my stress responses improved. Continued to increase as there was no change to organization, memory, or attention. Felt okay even at 100 mg. Then since I started 120 mg, I feel quite unwell. I don't think I can sustain this dose as side effects are strong: nausea after 1 hr of ingestion, tiredness, feeling as though I've had too much strong coffee. The side effects are definitely more pronounced if I'm not doing anything, so I try and stay active and never take this on an empty stomach! I'll give it 2 more weeks at 120 mg (which will be 6 weeks total), then gently titrate down. It gives me palpitations, too, which make me unhappy. I get this free on NHS in the UK."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "Recovering addict, difficult time with focus and motivation - have bipolar. On Lamictal, Risperdal, and Celexa. Was on Ritalin extended release, stopped as it was too much even on a low dose. Due to addiction history, asked about a non-stimulant to help with focus and motivation. Dr. put on 30 mg of Strattera. 1st day was a nightmare. Had depersonalization effects and felt completely out of it 2 hours after the 1st dose. Was nauseated, lost appetite, and just felt scared. Focus was great, but the side effects were overly focused on causing horrific feelings. Took 2 mg Ativan and it didn't help. Finally took PM medication of the Risperdal and was able to sleep. Flushed the medication. The morning after, on the way to work, face and ears feel like they are on fire and still feel off. Hopefully, the effects wear off soon, only took 1 30 mg. Dr. informed if any bad side effects to stop ASAP, and that's what happened. It was a horrible experience, and for a non-stimulant medication, this was worse than any stimulant."

For ADHD "I have been taking Strattera for 7 weeks. The first 4 weeks, I had terrible nausea and diarrhea, could not take meds without a big/protein-heavy breakfast. I immediately lost 5 lbs due to reduced appetite. I started noticing flat affect and low mood at around this time, and at week 7, I'm going off of it. It feels like I'm totally removed/disconnected from social situations, and nothing is funny/interesting to me. It seems to have made me more depressed than when I started simply because I don't feel present. Also, it has given me major fatigue. Oversleeping most days and having to nap during the day to keep my energy up to a functional level. Hopefully, I don't get withdrawal symptoms!"

Atomoxetine for ADHD "My 8-year-old daughter was prescribed this medication yesterday by our PCP. For the past 6 months, she was on Adderall 10 mg, and I decreased her to 5 mg two months ago. She weighs 64 lbs and 10 mg of Adderall had her like a zombie, the 5 most recently caused her to become anxious, overly sensitive, and literally trichotillomania - literally developing the habit of pulling her hair out. I stopped the Adderall this week, and her doctor suggested Strattera. I got an email from my daughter's teacher after sending her to school on the 1st day of her new meds. My daughter was experiencing super fatigue, headache, and nausea. She was definitely calm, but she could not eat dinner, and my baby was so hot to the touch. I will NOT give her any more meds."

Atomoxetine for ADHD "It's maybe my 5th week on the drug, noticed an increase in my productivity and feel like I can get a lot done. Although I'm suffering from nausea and slight headaches, I'm taking other medications, so it's hard to say. Tried Ritalin, Ritalin XR, and Dexamphetamine also. This isn't as aggressive as Dex, but Dex is my preference in comparison to this. Though it's still early days!"

Atomoxetine for ADHD "Was only on this for 4 days. I took 25 mg in the mornings. The side effects were bad and got progressively worse. My head felt weird and also headaches that lasted hours on end. Took extra long to fall asleep the third day. I barely ate the third and fourth day because the nausea was so bad. I would eat something small then feel like vomiting. The last day I tried to take it before bedtime as directed to try to sleep through the bad parts, but ended up calling off work because of severe insomnia. I would not recommend this stuff for anyone. Stay away from this stuff!"

Atomoxetine for ADHD "Since I've been on Strattera, I've felt tired and listless -- I can't even work up enough energy for essentials like laundry and dishes. I've been on it for 5 months. My worst side effects are nausea, fatigue, irritability, and strange dreams. It feels like I start dreaming before I even fall asleep, and it's driving me crazy. In typical ADHD fashion, I forgot my meds at work over the weekend and had to go without -- I woke up at 4 am to the worst headache I've ever had. I have an appointment on Wednesday and will be doing my damnedest to get my doc to switch me to a different med. I think it did a little for my ADHD, but I also upped my coffee intake while I was on this med."
