For Headache "I have used Fiorinal for 31 years. I use it sparingly, so as not to develop any resistance to it (I don't want my body to not respond to it). It works wonderfully on my headaches... I can take 2 caps, lie down in a dark room for 20-30 minutes, and my headache is gone. I have found that I take less medication when I take 2 at a time. If I take only 1 capsule, I will have to take at least 2 more doses... and wait 4 hrs between doses... before the headache is gone. This way, the headache is gone quickly, and I use the minimum amount of Fiorinal."

For Pain "Have taken Fiorinal in capsule form for over 30 years. Originally to stop migraines and relief from chronic headaches. After doctors trying all types of meds, including beta blockers and antidepressants, a pain specialist had me take it 4x a day to help prevent and treat headaches. 8 years ago, I developed carpal tunnel, tendonitis, and bilateral neuropathy. Multiple surgeries failed, and I can't take steroid shots. I didn't realize it, but the Fiorinal has been really muting the pain in my arms, wrists, and hands. Recent blood tests showed kidney issues, and because of the aspirin, they told me to stop the Fiorinal until they can determine the cause. My pain in my hands, wrists, and arms has tripled without the Fiorinal. On Medicare, it is not covered. 90 pills is almost $100. I use a pharmacy discount card, which makes it $67."

For Migraine "Of all the meds they have given me for over 50 years, this is the only one that is reliable. Take it when you know the headache is coming, and find a quiet place to hang for about 20 minutes. Then, back to work or whatever. Experience with the med lets you know if you need to take one or two, or if you can try one and then a second if necessary. I don’t get side effects. I’ve tried the Fioricet, but there’s a magic in the aspirin for me! The acetaminophen does nothing. I have had CT scans, MRIs, and I don’t know all the rest of the tests have been. I’ve tried everything they threw at me, but the antidepressants, every time, had me really depressed. I drew the line at Botox. This med works!"

For Migraine "Have used Butalbital for 8 years. The only drug that has ever worked to alleviate migraine pain. Now it won't be prescribed because it is classified as a 'rescue drug.' Well, so 'rescue me' from the pain I've experienced from my late teens until now, age 64! I have run the gamut of the other migraine meds - 18 - at last count. Even called the FDA to no avail."

For Migraine "This is my old faithful! Works fairly quickly and takes the pain away almost completely... Most doctors don't give you more than 15-20, and if you run into a spell that's longer than a few days, then they want you to try something else."

For Migraine "I had my first migraine and was prescribed Fiorinal 40 years ago, and back then, they were occasional. As I've gotten older, they are more frequent. This is a problem for my neurologist because Fiorinal is on the restricted use list here in New York. We switched me to Fioricet, and for three years, that was OK, but then the Tylenol started bothering my liver. Got a new script for Fiorinal, and to my surprise, it only comes in capsule form, and in my opinion, does not work as well. I hope they will bring back the tablet form. The tablet works the best, and I can't understand the need to change to a capsule. Why reinvent the wheel?"

For Migraine "I never had headaches until after giving birth to my second child. When she was around 3 or 4, I had my first REAL stress/cluster/migraine medication and had to go to the hospital. After that, I discussed it with my mother, who has had them for many years. She told me about the Butalbital. I requested it and was finally pain-free and able to work (business owner in marketing and PR, on radio and TV, events, seminars, etc. - so not easy to cancel) with no 'weird' feeling. 20 years later and countless 'specialist' visits and experiments, I'm sticking with Butalbital. It's the ONLY thing that I know will work - stress adds to my headaches. Mom is in her 90s and amazing, so if it's bad for you - wow, she's a shining example of life without headaches!!! Most people are shocked to hear I suffer from them, I am energetic and very active."

For Migraine "I've had migraines for 40 years. This works 9 out of 10 times, usually in about 20 minutes. Occasionally, I've had to take a second pill or dose, but 1 pill almost always does the trick. The other 10% of the time, I use Maxalt or its generic form. My insurance has recently dropped coverage for this inexpensive, very effective drug. I'm not happy and plan to appeal for coverage."

For Headache "I have been taking Fiorinal for 50 years for bad headaches. It has been a lifesaver for me, and nips the headaches in the bud before they lead to extreme nausea and taking to my bed. Unfortunately, the generic does not work for me, and it has been increasingly difficult to get Fiorinal as the price has gone up dramatically lately. My insurance covers none of it. What can I do? Help!"

For Headache "I have used Fiorinal for over 30 years and, like others, try to use it sparingly. My goal is to only use it no more than 10 pills per month - usually less. It is the only thing that works for my headaches. I have tried all other over-the-counter medicines, and they do nothing. I find that if I catch the headache early, one pill will do the trick. However, if I wait too long, it may not work. I have Fioricet for bad headaches, but I don't like the side effects of the codeine. I rarely ever use it. The only bad thing with Fiorinal is that I can't take it at night because the caffeine will keep me awake. My pharmacist says that they may discontinue the drug in a few years - I hope not, as I need it."

For Migraine "I am now 72, and I have had migraines since I was young. The worst migraines started when I was in grad school but were episodic (related to the menstrual cycle). They kept getting worse. When I was pre-menopausal, they converted to chronic migraine (15 or more/month); I started using Butalbital about 25 years ago. I've tried everything else, including 'natural substances,' and only Butalbital works to interrupt the cycle, so I can function daily!"

For Pain "I’ve used Fiorinal with codeine for 49 years, and it’s the only pain relief medication that works for me. I have multiple issues, severe back pain, it reduces pain so I function but doesn’t make it go completely away. In the past, the issues worked completely. I take it at the onset of pain, if I wait too long, pain is harder to control. I thought it only came in a capsule, then I got it in tablet form once, and the tablet didn’t work as well and yet should be the same. In the past, I was given a generic which did not work, the past 5-6 years the generic is working. It used to cost me over $800/month, but with generic, the price is about $400. My plan covers 80%. I have tried other medications every time a new one comes on the market with no success. This is a drug that does need constant monitoring, but it does work. Recent kidney tests have been good for me, so it hasn’t affected that with long-term use."

For Migraine "I’ve been taking this for years! I’ve been getting migraines since age 11, and still get them almost daily! This medicine works great for treating migraine at onset. I also take Imitrex tablets and injections when I wake up with a migraine. I’ve been through so many types of meds (natural and prescribed), but this works the best! I feel like I have to jump through hoops to get it prescribed, though! Doctors don’t like to prescribe because it has butalbital! Smh!"

For Headache "I've been getting headaches most of my life. I started taking Fiorinal for the past 30 years. I find it to be a 'miracle' for my headaches as long as I take it when I feel the headache starting. If I wait until the headache develops, it takes longer to work, but the headache does go away."

For Headache "I have been using this medication for my complex tension headaches for 2 years now. I have a condition that causes chronic muscle spasms/trigger points in my upper back, shoulders, and neck. In turn, the spasms start a chain reaction that results in severe headaches. This is the only medication that has successfully relieved my pain, and it does it without any adverse effects and very quickly. 2 capsules, either at the same time or within an hour of each other, and the pain is on its way, and I am able to move and turn my head again."

For Migraine "This has been the only drug I have been prescribed that has actually helped with my migraines. I have been on it for a couple of years now, and it is not as effective for me as it once was, and the side effects sometimes make me feel off for the rest of the day. But I have always thought that the side effects were better than the pain of the migraine. It is the only one that has worked for me, so my go-to drug."

For Migraine "I have to say that anyone would think aspirin would touch a migraine-in case you're wondering-NOT EVEN A LITTLE! I thought this was a migraine medication since it came from a referral to a neurologist-what a wasted office visit AND wasted Rx. Absolutely no relief from this medication, and it gave me a nosebleed. I'm so disappointed with the whole migraine 'treatment' process. If the drug companies can give Hugh Hefner a boner, why do I have to continue to suffer migraines?"

For Headache "I started taking this medicine about 7 years ago. I used to have these very bad headaches, and my doctor kept giving me other medicines that never worked. At that time, my husband had a prescription for Fiorinal to cure his tension headaches, and one day when I was in very bad shape, he suggested I have one. After 1/2 hour, I started feeling the relief. Since then, I have my own prescription. It worked wonderfully for me and my husband (we are both professionals and very busy at work)."

For Headache "My father and I both used to get horrible headaches. I was given this drug, Fiorinal, in the E.R. I filled the script, and wow, no more headache. I took 1 and didn't need another. 2 weeks later, my dad got 1 of our headaches, and I gave him 1, and the same thing, headache gone. Guess what? We never got 1 of our headaches again EVER. He is sadly now gone, he went the next 26 years without another, and I am currently at 30 years since and still have not had 1 of those headaches again!"

For Migraine "I have used this drug since 1979 at age 27. Two-day weekend headaches after a rough week were frequent (about 15-20 headaches per year) over the next 10 years. They laid me up for hours or days. If taken within a few hours after a headache began, Fiorinal is very effective. Wait a day, and pain is partially reduced but lingers for 24 hours or more. Headache frequency gradually declined with aging. At current age, headache frequency is down 95%. Fiorinal was a great help to me."

For Headache "I have been taking a Butalbital compound with acetaminophen and caffeine as needed for 3 years to resolve migraine headaches. I have been through the gamut of other pain meds prescribed by several neurologists, but Butalbital is the only one that works in the short term. Also, I notice it is not addictive."

For Migraine "Butalbital is my go-to migraine medicine! Thank goodness my OBGYN prescribes it for me. Aspirin and a cold Coca-Cola help with light headaches. A good night's sleep and a regular sleep cycle are critical. When you wake up, slowly ease up on 2 pillows and then get up 1-2 minutes later."
