"50 years old and I've had GAD (mostly untreated) since my teens. Used Valium occasionally when bad, but this past year has been one of the worst in the last 25, and I started needing it every day. Didn't want to continue that. Severe anxiety, especially in the mornings. Almost not able to function sometimes. Absolute misery. Lexapro (titrated slowly up to 20 mg/day after many weeks) did not help. Switched directly to Prozac 30 mg/day, which was a little better but nowhere near enough. Was getting very worried that SSRIs would not work and I'd end up addicted to benzos. My psychiatrist recommended adding asenapine 2.5 mg before bed. Absolute miracle! Worked the very next morning! I almost feel normal again. I still get (less) anxious, but I feel like I can handle it now. Googled asenapine for anxiety, found nothing. This is why it's important to see a psychiatrist. Your GP will just not have this type of knowledge. Makes you sleepy, minor headache. Don't give up! Took 9 months to get here."

"I have been on Saphris for over 3 years, varying between 5 and 10 mg per day. It really does help with obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, and has a slight antidepressant effect as well. I take it with 80 mg Prozac as an adjunct to treat depression and anxiety. It's a shame this medicine is so expensive and not more popular, as it is very powerful and works well. This medicine does make you drowsy, but the effects pass after a month, you should take it at night starting out. (I still am.)"

"This medication has been incredible for me. I was experiencing a lot of inner hostility and paranoia. Taking this medication resolved both. I no longer feel like everyone is out to get me in some way. I can interact with people and function normally in day-to-day life. As a bonus, I fall asleep soon after taking it. I take 5 mg every night before bed. Initially, it helped with my depression also, but now I’m starting Cymbalta for depression symptoms that have returned."

"I've been on Saphris for a couple of months now. It works amazingly. I just got upped to 10 mg. I normally sleep right through the night, but as I'm writing this, it won't kick in or something. But it's a miracle. I used to lash out often and I would talk about hating people and then five seconds later, I'd be a wreck because they were mad. It's a lifesaver."
