Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Strep Throat "Augmentin worked fast within 3 days for my strep throat, but the diarrhea and stomach aches I had taking this were awful. Even for a few days after I had finished the 10 days of antibiotics. The first few days, I experienced some trouble sleeping, night sweats, and the headache here and there. Generally worked well, but side effects were not fun."

For Sinusitis "I have my 5th sinus infection of the year (2017), which caused my eardrum to rupture. My doc prescribed me a 500 mg dose, twice a day. Antibiotics in general upset my stomach and should be taken with food, so I made sure to take it with a large meal. The one time I didn't was in a rush to get on the road for a trip, and I was nauseous the entire ride, but Tums helped a lot. The infection has cleared up quickly, and my ear is draining a lot less fluid out. This has been able to do what four other antibiotics haven't. Take with a full meal, and you will be feeling much better soon!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I was prescribed this to treat my sinus infection. It's been almost two days now, and while I feel slightly better, the nausea and upset stomach are too much for me. I have eaten both yogurt and rice before taking it, and I still get very sick. It is also making everything I eat seem extremely salty. Even when I breathe, I taste salt. I've called my doctor, and they're changing my antibiotic to something else. Apparently, this one is making my potassium levels rise too high."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I started Augmentin 1 gm twice/day 5 days ago (Wed. Sep. 9th) to treat inflammation in the tooth root. The stomach problems started by day 4. Today (day 5) was really bad: headache, stomach pain, pain in my joints, and my whole body. I also had a loose stool from day 1. I called my doctor, explained the situation, and he said I can stop taking it, a minimum of 4 days should suffice. So I took 9 out of a course of 14 tablets. I hope I'll get rid of my whole-body pain and stomach problems soon. So overall experience with Augmentin: bad."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "This drug was the worst. I'm still recovering. Started taking this on 12/28 for SI. I take daily probiotics and increased them since I expected some stomach upset. At first, not so bad but by Friday 12/30, the yeast infection from hell reared its ugly head. I had Diflucan on standby just in case and took it 12/31 and stopped Augmentin altogether. Nothing, and normally it's hours when I feel relief. I had to get Monistat 1 on New Year's to help fight it. Just got relief as of 1/4. Digestive still not normal. Never again. Unless my life depends on it."

For Urinary Tract Infection "After being treated for a UTI, the first 3 days of taking this drug I started getting unbearable stomach cramping in my lower abdomen. Also feeling vacant minded this morning. So for me, 5 days in, I've decided to stop taking the tablets as I cannot cope with the stomach pain it's causing me."

For Bronchitis "Prescribed Amox-Clav after trying to fight off bronchitis by myself for 2 weeks. Given 875 mg twice a day for 10 days. By day 3, I noticed a dramatic lessening of my coughing, clearing of my sinuses (which was unexpected). By day 5, my cough is almost completely gone. On day 5, my stools are very off -- almost nothing is produced, and it's slimy in consistency. I will try probiotics to see if it helps. Note: last night and the first day I took this, I suddenly felt cold and started shaking for 15 minutes. I layered up immediately and felt fine after 10 minutes or so. I suspect being hungry triggered this. When I eat a bit of food just before the pill, my stomach cramps are far less. I also recommend taking yogurt for diarrhea."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin and Structure Infection "Took Augmentin for a bacterial infection in my foot. This is rough stuff. During the 10-day cycle, although it cleared up the infection in my foot, I had begun to develop headaches, felt weak and tired, sleeplessness, and some stomach discomfort. It works well if you can endure all the side effects. Would not recommend if other options are available."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bronchitis "This antibiotic is the best when it comes to treating sinus infections. I have had bronchitis for about 3 months, and it’s clearing everything up! I have a very weak stomach and have never been able to take antibiotics and finish a full round, so this time I started taking Omeprazole 30 minutes before my dose is due and, of course, with food, and only once experienced stomach upset. I have read a lot of people complain about diarrhea. I suffer from constipation and have been to the bathroom very often, so I’m guessing that is my equivalent of that."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Middle Ear Infections "This medication has always worked great for me whenever I have an ear infection... much better than the regular Amoxicillin too. However, be sure to follow your doctor's orders by taking this medicine with food while getting enough probiotics, as it will give you stomach problems along with diarrhea if you don't comply."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I've been taking this for about two weeks to combat cellulitis, and after first trying Keflex and Bactrim, which did not work, the Augmentin is working quite well. I haven't had any stomach upset or GI discomfort. I haven't had any diarrhea that couldn't be easily stopped with a normal dose of over-the-counter loperamide. Had a slight bit, but the loperamide fixed that right up."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin for what my doctor thought was a skin infection on my right leg. Well, after taking my first dose, within 2 hours, my stomach became extremely upset... burning... nausea... diarrhea... bloating... and anxiety and panic have always been an issue for me, but after Augmentin, it was immediately 20 times worse. My doctor ended up telling me to stop taking it on day 5 because it was getting worse and worse. My skin infection cleared up with some hydrocortisone cream and antibiotic ointment, but it's been over 3 months since stopping this medication, and I'm still having major stomach issues and mental issues, so please be careful, people, especially if you have anxiety or stomach issues beforehand."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Strep Throat "I had a terrible strep infection. My throat was so painful, and my body ached. Was prescribed penicillin. After 4 doses and no improvement, returned to the doctor and was prescribed Augmentin. I knew the side effects would be bad but was desperate to see improvement in the strep, which 2 doctors described as a really bad case. After 2 doses, NO SIDE EFFECTS, my stomach was fine, I saw improvement in my throat. After the 3rd dose, I started noticing some upset stomach and a bad headache. Hoping this headache doesn't last."

For Sinusitis "After suffering with a 3-month sinus infection and trying 3 lots of antibiotics, this is the only one that worked! Okay, I had a little upset stomach, but that’s a small price to pay. Note: I always made sure I took it every 8 hours after a meal and with a glass of water. I’m surprised by the bad reviews here, but as my doctor said, people don't take the time to do a positive review, so you don't often hear about the good ones! Amazing, cured me, so relieved and happy. I had one week's supply."

For Sinusitis "I take amox-clav twice a day for an ear infection and sinusitis. I am on day 3 and so far, I have stopped coughing up green, chunky mucus, yay! The mucus alone caused me not to desire food, therefore, I have lost weight (before starting amox-clav). I know to take probiotics with penicillin, so I do not foresee a yeast infection as some have reported. I have experienced stomach grumbling and groans, but no diarrhea yet (plus, I haven't eaten in days, so I don't have anything in my stomach to get out). Amox-clav is doing its job. I'm not going to be a drama queen/crybaby about the side effects because this is penicillin, not baby aspirin we're taking, just saying."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I am at the end of day 3 of the medication, and I can't do it anymore. The side effects are making life miserable, just in a different way than I started with. I went in because of the headache and congestion that would not respond to anything over the counter, plus vertigo. The vertigo went away after the first day of meds, but the headache is significantly worse. Additionally, my stomach hurts really bad and constantly feels like I have overeaten a massive amount all the time, whether I have eaten or not. I have also had some mild diarrhea. So not worth it for me!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Was put on this for an ear and sinus infection. By my second day, I was having bad stomach cramps, excessive bowel movements, some diarrhea, nausea, body aches, joint pain, fatigue, brain fog, nerve tingling in legs and feet, constant headache. Also, I began spotting on my second day, and it was one week before my period was due, this never happens. I spotted until my period started. I have three more days left, and I feel worse than I did before I started it. My ear isn’t completely better yet either, my sinuses have cleared up some but not all the way. I called my doctor, and he said he is hesitant to change my script as my infection was/is so bad, and asked that I just push through side effects. Never again!"

For Bronchitis "On 875 mg twice a day for bronchitis and sinus infection. I ate and took the med with a lot of water. Minimal stomach upset. Today is the last day of the med, feeling 80% better but tired. I was couch-bound for 5 days prior to taking the med and was so sick I thought it was pneumonia."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Prescribed 2000 mg spread over two tablets a day for sinusitis. Lasted 2 days on the medication and had to stop. Severe nausea and wretched general ill feeling, incredibly upset stomach with excessive bowel movements, to the point mucus was being passed. Thrush and exposure to further infection resulted. Doctor took me off them with immediate effect and being put on something else tomorrow."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Middle Ear Infections "This drug was prescribed for my 2.5-year-old for acute otitis media serous. The first two days were great, and he felt better within hours of taking it, but by the third day, his stomach was so messed up. Took probiotics and gave yogurt, but 4 blowout diapers in a matter of hours, followed by nausea, and his booty was so red that he couldn't even sit down. The side effects were too severe, and had to take him off as his little system could not withstand 10 days of it."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Have frequent sinus infections and have been prescribed Augmentin XR whenever I have a severe sinus infection for about the past 17 years now. It always has done the job and taken care of the infection. The only downside is the GI side effects (i.e., stomach cramps, diarrhea, etc.)."

For Sinusitis "Prescribed after repeated ear infections and the last cold that turned into a sinus infection. Felt better by the second day, and sinuses opened up. I did have a bout of diarrhea on day 2 but had had soft bowels prior to starting this medication, so I cannot be certain that it was from that. I took Pepto-Bismol tablets throughout that morning and did not have it again. I did feel tired, had a slight stomach ache as if carrying around a brick the first few days, feverish/chills but not really, as well as somewhat sedated and 'out of it' but not unable to function. I was glad to come across this website on day 2 of my treatment. I alleviated the side effects by taking with Greek yogurt, a probiotic pill, a full glass of water, and a starch."

For Bacterial Infection "Took 3 pills every 12 hrs. for 2 kidney staph infections. 1st pill taken with food and low-fat plain Greek yogurt. Later began to notice a throat and tongue burning sensation. 2nd pill caused stomach discomfort and diarrhea (consistency of pudding). 3rd pill began to see red blood after wiping. Very painful and bloody anal area after passing mushy diarrhea."

For Sinusitis "This medicine made me horribly sick. I get sinus infections 1-2 times per year and typically am prescribed azithromycin (Z-pack), which works great. This time, a new NP prescribed me 875 mg Augmentin 2 times a day. I've never really had trouble with antibiotics, so I obliged and started taking it. I was 4 doses in and started getting diarrhea, and it continued into the next day, so I took some Imodium. I should also mention that my voice got extremely hoarse after starting the medicine, too. The Imodium seemed to help a little, but I had a mild underlying continuous stomach ache that didn't go away. By the 3rd day, I had a headache, fever, bloating, and diarrhea. I stopped taking it on the 4th day. Two days later, I am still sick with stomach pain. This is the devil!"
