Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Don't know what's worse... the cellulitis infection or side effects of Augmentin. Headache, gassiness, bloating, stomach upset from day one. Horrible vomiting on day five. Thank goodness I only have a seven-day Rx. Calling the doctor tomorrow and will beg not to take the last two days or switch to something else."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I have 3 days left of Augmentin for a sinus infection. I have had a mild headache and stomach cramps since taking this medicine. I forgot to take a pill at dinner and instead took it before bed. I couldn't get to sleep since I became very stuffy to the point that I couldn't breathe out of my nose. I started to feel heavy in my chest, so I had to get up to get my breathing under control. I didn't realize that others have had similar side effects. I will call my doctor and see if she recommends I finish the medicine. No Augmentin for me next time."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Was prescribed the 875 mg tabs every 12 hours for an infected cyst. Right from the 1st dose, I experienced stomach upset, severe bloating, and diarrhea that burned. Within several days, I also developed a vaginal yeast infection and severe yeast rashes in both armpits. I normally have a cast iron stomach and can take normally any medication without meals and have no problems. The Augmentin caused bad side effects even with meals. Stay away from this drug, it is well known to cause stomach problems."

For Bacterial Infection "The absolute worst! After taking the first dose, within 30 min I had terrible diarrhea and stomach rumbling. Two hours later, I was vomiting and have had the worst nausea ever since. It also gave me the worst anxiety and insomnia. Needless to say, I did not bother to take the second dose."

For Bacterial Infection "Daughter (16) was prescribed this medicine for an inflamed lymph node. After a few days, I noticed her upper eyelids were swollen. Thought maybe she was just tired, but after a week, they are still swollen. She also sounds like she's getting a sinus infection (meds should clear it up... smh). She has also developed a white bump in her mouth, severe dry mouth, and an upset stomach (no diarrhea). Says she feels like she's really full. (Only way she can explain the stomach ache). I'm calling the doctor now. Anyone else have the swollen eyelids, etc?"

For Bacterial Infection "Taking medication for a tooth infection after a root canal went wrong. This is my seventh course of antibiotics in about three months. Not good! The others were plain old amoxicillin, which hasn't helped at all. This appears to be helping, but with just two tablets left, I still have swelling in my gums just below the sinus area. The good news is I have had no side effects apart from diarrhea and stomach ache on the first day, but I think this was due to my taking a load of probiotics, which can be hard on the stomach at the start. Halved probiotics to two three times a day, and now fine. I am sure the tooth will erupt again in a few days though."

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed amox-clav 875 mg 2x a day for two weeks for infected adenoids in my sinuses. I had not been taking it with a full glass of water but had been taking it with an early afternoon and late evening meal. The doctor also prescribed Prilosec to be taken with it once a day. From the start, I noticed a little bit of nausea with extreme fatigue on days 2 and 3. On day four, I woke up feeling great, assuming I slept better because the medicine must have been working. However, two hours after lunch, I had severe nausea and stomach cramps and burning along with severe diarrhea. Took 6 Tums and the Prilosec earlier than normal and ate a lot of plain crackers. Burning lessened just a bit. This medicine has awful side effects. Need to call the doctor."

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed this antibiotic for sinusitis. It caused the worst yeast infection and bowel problem I have ever had. A day or two after I took my last dose, I began to have severe diarrhea with blood and/or mucus in it. I also began to have severe stomach cramps/heartburn as well. I went to the doctor thinking it was something more serious, and she did a stool test as well as a blood test. Everything is fine, she said that this antibiotic has a reputation for doing this to people. I am on day 8 of this. She says it could last a while, and I just have to stay hydrated and wait it out. I hope it goes away soon. I can't even eat without having to go!!! I've lost about 10 pounds in a week!!! I am so sick of this! Stay away from it!!"

"One dose, one pill for a dental procured infection. I thought I wasn't going to make it through the night. Extremely awful stomach cramping and uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhea. Drenched in sweat without chills from head to toe. Struggled to breathe with a pounding headache. Woke up on the bathroom floor in the morning with a mess and no energy to move. It was as if I was poisoned."

For Sinusitis "Just finished 14 days at 875 MG twice a day. I was asymptomatic to begin with, but when I saw my ENT for follow-up after sinus surgery in September, he found some yellow mucus in my sinus. It had not been bothering me, though. After the first week on this drug with no side effects except mild stomach discomfort for two days, I then became very stuffy, very mucusy, and have been blowing my nose all day long every day. This has been going on for 9 days now. Just took my last pill this morning. The antibiotic essentially gave me a sinus infection. I'll see the doc again in a week, but I'll never take antibiotics again. I'll start using andrographis again on a regular basis. It's a Chinese herbal antibiotic."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "The pharmacist, physician, and nurse told me Augmentin could or may give me diarrhea. So I started eating the BRAT diet, yogurt, and drinking a lot of water. Mild, dull stomach discomfort with mild cramping on days 1 and 2. Day 3 is when diarrhea started. On the 7-day order."

For Bacterial Infection "I told my doctor I was sensitive to meds. He gave me this anyway for a sinus infection and cough. After 2 pills, stomach cramps and diarrhea. Can't eat anything without diarrhea. My cough is worse, and I couldn't sleep last night because of hyperactivity. I am stopping the med immediately."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Urinary Tract Infection "UTI symptoms were alleviated after day 1, together with fever. I woke up on day 2 feeling fine, started feeling worse again after 1st dosage in the morning. TAKE WITH FOOD! What I noticed is that when the antibiotics stay in my system, I feel worse, e.g., I take it every 12 hours, so by the 8th hour, I feel better and fine until I take it 4 hours later. Bloated stomach and intestines, always passing gas, luckily, no diarrhea yet. Will remember to update this review hopefully by the time I finish the 5 days in 2 more days."

For Skin and Structure Infection "I was prescribed this before getting a dental procedure done. I took 2 doses (875 mg), 12 hours apart. The first day, I experienced an unusual tingling, the best way I could describe it would be like little bugs all over my body. I also experienced stomach discomfort, mostly on the right side. I woke up the next morning to bouts of watery diarrhea. I stopped taking it and contacted my physician. I've never had a reaction to regular amoxicillin but haven't taken antibiotics in decades."

For Bacterial Infection "I have used this medication for 25 years because of my bad sinuses that keep getting infected. I had been using it with almost no side effects until this last time. But now that I have joined the 50+ club, I am seeing uncomfortable side effects. Right now, I am on it, I feel like garbage, I am tired, pale, chills, having stomach upset, and started to get tingling in the face after 4 doses. I feel more stuffed up than I did before starting this. If I still feel like this on the next dose, I am stopping it. I feel worse than before I started it."

For Sinusitis "Tonight is my first night taking this antibiotic. I have an inner ear infection. Let me tell you, it's 2:15 AM and I'm up because of the stomach ache I'm having right now. I also took it right with a meal! I'm calling first thing in the morning to hopefully change to something else. I can't go through 10 days of this!"

For Sinusitis "I'm so glad I'm not the only one having a bad reaction to this medication. I've taken the lower strength before and tolerated it fine, so I figured I'd be alright. The first night I took my first dose, I had bad stomach cramps, nausea, and chills. The next day, when I took my second dose, I had the same symptoms all day long. After my third dose, I felt sicker than I've ever been in my life. Along with my sinusitis and bronchitis, I had uncontrollable diarrhea and violent dry heaves. I had a horrific panic attack in the midst of this because my hands and feet went numb, I felt dizzy, and I was shaking all over. Someone had to help me get out of the bathroom because I was completely incapacitated. Something similar happened tonight on day 5, which is thankfully the final day of my 2-a-day course. Never again."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I started taking amoxicillin/clavulanate yesterday afternoon for an infection from a cat bite. I took my first pill around 6:00 pm with my dinner and didn't think anything of it. Around 10:00 pm, I had an awful headache. I had to take ibuprofen and go lay down until it finally eased. I woke up this morning with stomach cramps and diarrhea. I took my second dose this morning around 11:00 am with lunch, and after eating, I felt a little nauseous, but nothing too extreme. It wasn't long after I took the pill that I got a headache, and I've had it ever since. Overall, I've felt a little icky altogether after starting the medicine, but it does seem to be helping my infection."

For Sinusitis "I had an ongoing sinusitis infection for months. Then, a week ago, I woke up on a Wednesday morning and could hardly open my eye. My hubby took me to urgent care, where they said I had pink eye and gave me drops. However, I also developed a sore throat. I called the doctor and had a video visit. He looked at the picture I sent him, noticed swelling below my eye, and expressed concern that I may have preseptal cellulitis and possible strep. He prescribed Amox-Clav 875/125 mg. I have 5 more days to go on these antibiotics. I've experienced really bad stomach cramps, diarrhea (but only once), headache, feeling very tired, and now I have heartburn. I feel a little dehydrated, but I'm taking the medication with food. Despite the side effects, I plan to finish the antibiotics because they seem to be helping. They have cleared up my sinus congestion, although I still have a cough and need to clear up the mucus. Overall, I feel better than I have been. The pressure around my eyes and cheeks isn't as bad. I just have to get through these last few days and the side effects. The medication is definitely helping me."

For Sinusitis "As I was dealing with anxiety issues, I underwent a Head CT and was informed of the presence of mucosal thickening in the sphenoid sinuses. As I was unfamiliar with this term, I inquired further and was informed that it indicated a sinus infection. I began a prescribed medication regimen, and for the initial two days, I experienced only mild abdominal discomfort. However, on the third day, after taking a probiotic, I started experiencing heart palpitations, chest issues, brain fog, and feelings of passing out, culminating in my first panic attack. Additionally, I experienced discomfort in my joints and skin, but no rashes, and my stomach felt like it was burning. Every time I took the medication, I experienced chest issues and dizziness, which lasted all day, and I would wake up feeling sluggish and disoriented between doses."

For Sinusitis "875 mg Amoxicillin / Clavulanate for sinusitis. Nausea, upset stomach, fogginess. Always took with food and between doses took probiotic. After completing my 10-day cycle, I'm now experiencing muscle weakness, and 2 days ago had severe back pain (I don't normally ever experience muscle weakness or back pain). I'm hoping these symptoms will disappear soon. I'm assuming it has taken care of the sinusitis, I don't feel a noticeable difference. I would not recommend this antibiotic."

For Bacterial Infection "I've had to take this awful drug 3 times in the last 6 months. It first starts affecting my eyes, they get blurry. Then I can't sleep or have nightmares. My muscles get weak and sore, I then start having severe diarrhea, going as much as 15 times in a day. Weak to where I can't get anything done. Plus, horrible yeast infections. Upset stomach, nothing has a taste. I hate this drug."

For Strep Throat "I was diagnosed after 1.5 days of an itchy, painful throat, giant tonsils, and swollen lymph nodes. I had hot flashes but never a fever. The rapid test was positive, so the urgent care doctor prescribed Amox 500 mg, one tablet three times a day for 10 days. I finally began to feel better after day 3. I also developed bronchitis and an asthma exacerbation. Ugh. I stopped the antibiotics on day 8, which was yesterday, just because, as a nurse, I'm a bad patient. ;) I didn't have any stomach upset or diarrhea, which really surprised me. All is well, just getting the asthma in check with prednisone."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bronchitis "Scary. I had taken this a year ago and had to stop after 2 days because I was getting really bad palpitations. Last week (I figured I'd give it a second try), I took 1 dose of Augmentin before bed and ended up in the ER about 4 1/2 hours later with a full-body rash (after only 1 dose!). My skin was on fire. Purple blotches all over. Stomach upset. Back pain. Spent the next 3 days with a terrible rash and hives. Turns out I'm allergic to anything penicillin-based (amoxicillin). I'm sure it's a very good/strong antibiotic for those that can tolerate it, but if you've had any type of adverse reaction in the past, whether stomach upset or rash, etc., I'd highly advise staying away. Could be that you have an actual allergy and that it's not just a bad side effect of the drug. Stick with Levaquin!"

For Sinusitis "I’m on day 3 of 5 Amox Clav 875 125. I have a terrible sinus infection. Day one, my stomach felt a little nauseous. The next day, I had diarrhea, it lasted the day. I ate some bananas and drank a yogurt smoothie, and it seemed to help. I think the stomach upset and diarrhea was just my body adjusting to the antibiotics. Today is day 3, and my stomach is calm, but I do feel really tired and low energy. My sinuses are not so clogged, I can breathe a lot better, so the medication seems to be working. I would recommend it for sinus infection because I know how stuffy and miserable I felt, and I would definitely deal with the side effects to be better. I’m going to continue to take my 5-day course."
