Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "This is one of the worst experiences in my entire life. After taking Augmentin, I had diarrhea for a week, a yeast infection, dry red rashes on the palms of my hands and inner thighs, hemorrhoids, exhaustion, blurry vision, and an increased heart rate, which caused me to not be able to sleep. I WILL NEVER take Augmentin again, worst meds in the world."

For Sinusitis "This is a strong and multi-purpose antibiotic. Yes, you will get stomach pain, yes, you will get loose stools, and yes, you get some other form of discomfort. But if you want to rid your upper respiratory infection quickly and for good, then this is the drug. No pain, no gain. This drug almost guarantees that the original infection will not return. When it comes to sinuses, you need to destroy all of the bad bacteria for good. Just reducing the bacteria with a mild antibiotic that agrees with you is certain to allow the same bacteria to grow and make you sick again a month or two in the future. Tough it up, buttercup, and destroy that bad bacteria for good."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Ok, so I started with pneumonia, and then it kinda came back as a sinus infection/bronchitis (I have no idea). So they gave me this antibiotic for resistance issues. The first dose had my tummy rumbling, but I ate and took a probiotic! I had loose stools (and still have them), but I am slightly afraid of antibiotics just because they upset my stomach (previously the doxy for my lungs). But the probiotic helps SO MUCH! As long as you eat with it and take a probiotic if you want to, then you should be fine. I really like the way it’s working! I’m almost clear even though I’m on it for a week, and I’m only two days in. Be safe!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Was prescribed Augmentin for a sinus infection, and my anxiety has been crazy (already diagnosed with anxiety, and it seems to be worse). My throat felt worse before it got better. I'm also having headaches, nausea, and loose bowels. I can't wait to be done!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I was prescribed this from the hospital for sinusitis. I’ve been on all types of antibiotics in my life, and this stuff is horrible. Woke up this morning convinced I was dying. Anxiety, panic attacks, tarry stool, chest and back pain, side pain, chest tightness, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, pale, dizziness, headache. I could go on. Stopped dosage and heading to PCP tomorrow to figure out what’s going on now."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "3 hours after my first dose of Augmentin 875, I started vomiting in addition to diarrhea. I thought I had a stomach flu. I waited 5-6 days to restart the antibiotic. Well, 3 hours after that dose, guess where I was, in the bathroom vomiting again for several hours! I will NEVER take this medicine again!!! I've had Augmentin before but only experienced nausea. Not anymore! :("

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed amoxicillin for a tooth abscess/infection. The medicine worked great and cleared it up. Side effects: slight yeast infection (quickly warded off by eating plenty of plain Greek probiotic yogurt). Also, my stomach was fine throughout the whole course, but once I finished the medication (6 days later), I have come down with nausea and diarrhea and dizziness that lasted for 3 days. It still beats a toothache."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Augmentin: The first time I took it was about 8 years ago. It did the job quickly, but I had diarrhea for about a year. {Not kidding! I also developed plantar fasciitis for a brief period, possibly due to a lack of certain nutrients caused by the extended bout of diarrhea.} I did not know what probiotics were at the time!? :( I blamed myself and that other guy, my doctor, for not mentioning the benefits of probiotics. Probiotics maintain a healthy level of good bacteria that most antibiotics will destroy. This prevents or minimizes greatly any diarrhea. Augmentin also contains clavulanic acid, which causes the upset stomach. Ranitidine, which is an acid reducer, can help soften the sour stomach often associated with Augmentin. Augmentin does work!!!"

For Bacterial Infection "I had a painful tooth that got infected and caused swelling of my right jaw within only 3 days. The doctor prescribed me this antibiotic amoxicillin/clavulanate, 875 mg dose 2x to take for 10 days and go to a root canal on the 7th day. I have a phobia of taking medications because of previous bad side effects. Since I have taken plain amoxicillin many times without any major problems, I gave this a go. I took one pill in the morning with my breakfast, and 2 hours later, got violently ill, throwing up until I couldn't, literally, the acid was burning my stomach and throat. Five minutes later, I started peeing from my butt for 30 minutes, liquid diarrhea, I was very weak and spent the day in bed. I only took one single pill. The doctor said it is a bad reaction, now I have to figure out what to take because I am allergic to most of the antibiotics, and the tooth pain is on the next level."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "After a couple of hours after taking an 875 mg tab, my stomach became rock hard. I had the most debilitating stomach cramps known to man. I've never vomited as much and as hard as I did that day. The diarrhea was like I was urinating out of my anus. After drinking a bottle of kefir, I was good again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I'm on day 3 out of 10 of Augmentin 875/125 twice a day for a sinus infection. So far, I haven't had any serious side effects, however, I'm starting to experience loss of appetite, drowsiness, diarrhea, and dizziness within the first 2.5 hours of taking a dose. It is also causing insomnia, but I take a sleeping pill, and I'm fine. Other than that, the medicine is working great. I'm feeling better already (I can breathe again, my head doesn't feel like 100 lbs! pressure is inside it). It is a very strong antibiotic, so if you take it, be sure to drink PLENTY of fluids, get lots of rest, and try some yogurt for the abdominal cramps from the diarrhea, it seems to help for me!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Colds turn into sinus infections pretty easily on me. Yes, I wait a while before I go to the doctor for antibiotics, as most sinus infections are viral. By the time I went to the doc with this one, I was MISERABLE. Hurting down into my jaw even. Within a few hours of taking the first pill, there was relief. I never knew I could have so much disgusting stuff come out of my nose. I always take probiotics (especially while on antibiotics) to decrease GI side effects. TAKE PROBIOTICS. Nausea and diarrhea are possible with any antibiotic."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I took it for a severely abscessed tooth. It did clear up after 5 days (2 1000 mg tabs a day). However, I felt horrible the entire time. Gave me so much anxiety that I had 2 panic attacks. I had headaches, stomach pain, and diarrhea. No appetite, even though you have to eat in order to tolerate the medicine. My infection was really bad, and I'm thankful that the Augmentin cleared it up, but I'm not sure if I would be willing to take it again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I did not have any side effects. Loose stool the first few days, but not what I would consider diarrhea. I'm not sure if it worked, though. It helped my ears, but I still have a slight sinus headache. Just finished the 10th day. Two doses a day."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I am currently staying in the hospital overnight with an infected colon (thought it was appendicitis, it was so close), crazy watery diarrhea, vomiting, severe stomach cramps, and therefore dehydration. I have never had digestive problems like this, and I've never been in a hospital overnight. This is seriously because of Augmentin. Do not take this drug!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Augmentin is getting rid of my sinus infection, but the severe diarrhea side effect is going to have to make me quit. I have lost 3 pounds so far, have no energy, and can't keep anything in my body. I'm a runner, so this is totally not acceptable."

For Bacterial Infection "This stuff sucks, period. I rarely have problems with any meds. I've taken antibiotics for several reasons in my life, always gonna have some discomfort or side effects, but this stuff can't even work properly because you just puke it up. I got to my second dose of the 875/125 mg, and it's pointless...projectile vomiting and diarrhea. Took with meals and probiotics, it doesn't matter. I don't care what anybody else says, how are the other meds, probiotics, or food supposed to work if you just puke within an hour or two of taking it? I have even asked other doctors and people who work at hospitals. Augmentin is a broad antibiotic used by general practitioners who don’t know specifically what to target, so they throw Augmentin at it to just generally treat stuff knowing full well the side effects and that it is a bad and low-rated medicine. It “may” work on some people, but I feel that number of people is arguably lower than the people it causes problems with."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Urinary Tract Infection "I took this for my urinary tract infection, and although it cleared that up, one of the side effects of this medicine was diarrhea and thrush. I got both, but the thrush was the worst. I had to stop the course of antibiotics before I should have because of the severity of my thrush, which I also passed on to my partner, oh joy. I stopped taking it now 4 days ago and I still have a mild dose of thrush even though I have taken 2 Canestan tablets and now a pessary... fingers crossed this should be the end of it."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin and Structure Infection "My neighbor's cat scratched and bit me. At first, I thought I sprained my wrist doing something, but when my wrist was red like a lobster, swelling in pain and pus draining from the bite, I knew it was due to the cat bite. Went to the ER, they said I had cellulitis. They gave me an IV of this, then prescribed it for ten days. Started to work immediately. I had mild diarrhea for the first three days, felt nauseous and very groggy, trouble thinking clearly. I still have dark urine, but my wrist is just about completely healed. I'm on day six, four more days to go. Then I'm done. Regular amoxicillin made me feel weird but didn't give me much side effects, however, I was prescribed amoxicillin for abscessed teeth."

For Bacterial Infection "Do not take amoxicillin/clavulanate antibiotic EVER! Doctor prescribes me this antibiotic for a bacterial infection, which I did not have, the lab test came up virus later. I did not know that this amoxicillin/clavulanate is just another name for Augmentin because I took the latter years ago and spent one whole day in the bathroom vomiting and diarrhea. Here we go, took this unknowingly and guess what? Same reaction, started jetting out from both ends violently at the same time. And I only took one pill. I just do not know the effectiveness of this drug because I can't damn keep this pill down in the stomach for more than 30 mins. Now I know I will never touch this stuff EVER AGAIN! Took amoxicillin many times, never had that reaction, apart from minor stomach discomfort. NEVER AGAIN!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Strep Throat "This is only my second day on the medicine. The swelling and pain have gone down dramatically, however, the side effects are bad. Horrible cramping, abdominal pain, and, of course, wretched diarrhea. Like I said, I'm only on my second day, let's just hope this doesn't last much longer."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I suffer from chronic sinus infections and migraine headaches. I usually can tell if a sinus infection has taken hold when sumatriptan (migraine med) is not working! First go-round a couple years ago with Augmentin 875 mg big pills was awful, and I experienced what others reported with horrible chemo-like diarrhea effects, barely made it through 5 of 10 days, but felt better in head afterwards. Decided to gut it out again a couple years later with another sinus infection after weaker antibiotics did not work and had a much easier time with Augmentin. Perhaps body needs to adjust to this med, but thank God it works!"

For Bacterial Infection "I took this drug for a bad abscess tooth and sinus infection. I took the probiotic pill and ate a lot of yogurt. It worked very well for me. The diarrhea was minimal. I only had a small amount 2 times. I took Imodium 2 times in 10 days. Today is day 11. Two teeth removed and I'm done with the meds. I read some not-so-good stuff, but if you take as prescribed and ALWAYS take a probiotic and eat lots of yogurt, you should be just fine. As for bowel movements, they weren't normal, but nothing to worry about. Now they should return to normal."

For Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth "I used this for a pretty extreme bout of SIBO. GI had me take a breath test, and the results were pretty high. I felt a million times better day 2 of this medication, though it did cause diarrhea. Unfortunately, I’m having a second comeback of my SIBO. I was prescribed this again, but I’m holding out a few days and trying to see if my current diet will help. If I’m not feeling better in a day or so or I’m worse, I will resort to antibiotics again. I feel like this is a temporary cure and not a long-term solution."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I was recently prescribed Augmentin 875 mg two times a day for 10 days for a very severe upper respiratory/sinus infection. On day one, I had pain in my head, some sweating/chills, lethargy, and stomach upset. Day two, I had bad diarrhea, anxiety, nervousness/agitation, sweating/chills, and some tiredness. Day three, I had all of the above, as well as developing one hive on my right arm after my evening dose. The medication helps my sinus infection, but the side effects are troubling. I do not feel good for at least two or three hours after taking this medication."
