For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin for a dental infection/tooth abscess. When I went to the dentist, I had already been on 3 or 4 days of penicillin. The penicillin didn't seem to be clearing the infection, and the dentist couldn't get me in for a root canal for another week. There, Augmentin came into play. The first dose I took on an empty stomach (couldn't eat with my throbbing face). So I had some nausea and just figured it was normal. The next dose I took with food, as directed. I puked viciously. I took another dose or two and had similar results... so much nausea and vomiting, it was hard to appreciate the fact my face wasn't throbbing. So it works well on infections, hard on the stomach though."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've had to take this multiple times now for extended periods of time due to tick bites because I cannot tolerate doxycycline. It hurts my stomach and makes me nauseous, causes diarrhea, but stay on top of the probiotic supplements, and it will resolve shortly after your antibiotics are finished."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Ok. I thought I could alleviate the absolutely horrible side effects associated with this medication by avoiding the adverse drug interactions and making sure I took each dose on a full stomach, but no. This antibiotic is awful. The debilitating side effects that I have experienced beginning on Day 4 are unrelenting nausea, headache, and body aches. I can work and function with the flu, but this is worse than the flu. This is my third time attempting to take this medicine. I’ll never try it again. Avoid at all costs!"

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Throughout the whole course, I had horrible nausea and diarrhea. :/ Two weeks after finishing the course, I'm still sick! So fatigued, flu-like symptoms, chills and sweats, terrible cramps, and always in the bathroom. I've now been diagnosed with colitis from Augmentin. I'm more sick after the course than I was before I actually needed the antibiotics! I've never had a reaction to any other antibiotic, so would never take that again."

For Middle Ear Infections "So far, it's slowly working for my ear infection. The pain has lessened but I still have mild pain. I'm on my 4th day. Hopefully, in 6 days, the ear will be completely healed. There are some minor side effects I have noticed, particularly some joint pain, but it is not bad and mild. Maybe a little nausea in my stomach too, but very mild. I'm just happy my pain has lessened in the ears. I took the Augmentin generic for Amoxicillin/Clavulanic acid 875 mg twice daily for 10 days."

For Bacterial Infection "Within a few hours of taking my first dose, I felt like garbage. I was extremely nauseous and out of it, almost dizzy. I have a deadly fear of puking, so I stopped taking it right after the first dose. I would never take this again because of the awful side effects. If you deal with nausea and diarrhea well, then you should stick to it, but personally, I could not put myself through it any longer."

For Bacterial Infection "Took first Augmentin dose at 10 pm, about 4 hours after dinner. Threw up violently every 2 hours from 1 AM through the night. Didn’t take the next dose this morning and was super nauseous, tired, and not hungry all day. Going to request a different drug. To be fair, I did not take it with food at the exact same time and did not know to take probiotics a couple of hours later until after reading everyone’s advice."

For Middle Ear Infections "Was prescribed a 10-day course of Augmentin for an ear infection and bronchitis, and by day three had diarrhea, a severe headache, and nausea. Started probiotics, and that helped a little. Now, after being off of it for one day, I have developed a yeast infection. The meds did help the infection, but I felt like I was going to die in the meantime. I will never take this med again."

For Sinusitis "I am writing this so anyone going through the same thing is prepared. Started with a cough 03/25. Turned into a sinus infection on 04/06. Started Augmentin (Amox/clav) on 04/07. Felt nausea/dizzy. Didn’t drink enough water, so felt sick - drink 8 glasses or more, no joke, eat a full meal and snack on crackers, etc., thought out the day 4/8 hours after taking. 04/08: Diarrhea, dizzy, foggy brain. Coughing up phlegm for hours after taking, and just horrible dizzy, mentally tough, felt like a heart attack but started to improve after drinking lots of water/crackers and fruits. 04/09: Started kefir/yogurt for breakfast and one shot of kefir mid-day. Helped diarrhea and made tummy better. All night up coughing phlegm and draining nose. Be prepared to be up all night clearing phlegm - SVT attack heart rate 180/230 rubbed neck in a circular motion - coughed-held breath and broke SVT attack. Don’t do decongestion meds, will cause attack with amox/clav 04/10. 04/12: Working just fuzzy brain and anxious, almost better."

For Sinusitis "I suffer from fibromyalgia and arthritis, so am already on a regimen of meds. I developed a severe sinus problem after oral surgery, which opened into my sinus cavities. Nothing, including sinus surgery and carefully chosen antibiotics, kicked it. I lost my sense of smell and taste. My doctor and I decided to try with Augmentin 875-2x/day. I was warned. I take a super probiotic between doses and eat yogurt. I am also eating a good amount of mild, healthy food. Nausea-yes, but no vomiting. Rough diarrhea that is less urgent after 8 days. Much fatigue, but I am used to that. I am halfway through a 21-day prescription and can now taste and smell (that began with a strange tinge that has gone away) and feel less drained from infection. No yeast issues, but being vigilant just the same. I still have 10 days to go and, although used to feeling lousy anyway, I can feel the absence of the rampant sinus issues. No more throat glop or constant heavy nose-blowing."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Took this for 10 days after a cat bite got infected. Noticed hyperactivity during the course, but it was two days after I finished the course that the real fun started - fatigue, head fog, inability to do anything, weight loss (three kg in four days!), really bad insomnia (unable to sleep until 5 am), unable to stomach anything except carbs. After a week of this, the nausea started, so that I couldn't eat anything without debilitating nausea. Headaches too. Am still in it after two weeks. Treating myself with ginger tea for nausea, slippery elm, probiotics, dandelion leaf and root for liver, lemon water, vegetable juices. I will never take this again."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Bitten by a dog, got prescribed this. Worst experience of my life. I cannot sleep, and I feel like throwing up the entire time. I just close my eyes and wait till the sun rises. Lay in bed, wake up, eat, take my course, and repeat.... Hate this antibiotic..."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "This drug is awful. I have 3 days left, and I physically cannot handle it anymore. I'm intensely nauseous every day, but I never vomit. I just drool at the mouth and dry heave until it wears away. But by the time the nausea settles, it's time to take another pill! It makes going to work almost impossible. I also get unusual headaches and generally feel terrible. Unfortunately, it's a holiday, so I am unable to contact my doctor for something new. Considering risking it and quitting - never again."

For Bacterial Infection "I don't tolerate antibiotics very well at all. I was put on this, and it was okay at first. After a couple of days, I definitely had severe nausea and some dizziness. I really had to force myself to eat. I was on 500 mg 2x daily for 10 days. I only made it for those 6 days. I wish I had made myself push through, but I couldn’t work dizzy. I also itched a little bit, not bad. Did not help UTI, probably because I stopped 4 days early. Side effects lingered a week, even after I stopped."

For Bacterial Infection "Took an 825 mg dose with a little food as recommended. I ate a small dinner 3 hours after taking the first pill. I became very nauseated 2 hours later and vomited 4 times 3 hours after that. It’s now been 24 hours since I took the medicine, and I'm still queasy. I was given it after a root canal on my tooth. I’ve not vomited in my adult life, and I’m a senior. Bad stuff for me."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin (500/125 three times a day for 10 days) by my dentist for a tooth infection. The first day wasn’t so bad, but by the second day, I could feel anxiety and nausea creeping in. On the third day, I had a strong headache and stomach pain with loose stools, although I never vomited. Over the next couple of days, my blood pressure spiked significantly, I had a difficult time sleeping, and I felt very anxious along with the other above-mentioned symptoms. The good news is that my tooth, jaw, and ear pain went away, caused by the tooth infection. On day 7, I called my dentist and explained my side effects to him, and he advised that I go off the medicine. I have never had any severe reactions to any antibiotics in the past. Well, at least for me, this stuff is bad in my opinion. I don’t plan on taking it again, although it did help my infection go away."

"Took 5 days of 625 mg twice daily course after a dental procedure. While on it, I had a severe headache, hot flushes, chills, depression, nausea, and anxiety. I didn't experience diarrhea, though. Two days after finishing the course, I got a vaginal yeast infection. The last yeast infection was 5 years ago when I was on a 3-month course of Z-Pack for acne. It cleared up my tooth infection, but I'm never having it again. Not worth the side effects."

For Strep Throat "I've had several antibiotics before in my life with no problem. If the doctors ever try prescribing me Augmentin again, I'm refusing. WORST EXPERIENCE of my life. I've been extremely nauseous with stomach pain. Some Pepto took care of the discomfort easily enough, but that's not my main complaint. It has destroyed my sense of taste and smell, everything reeks, I can't make out any smells, everything has the same disgusting odor. There's a putrid bitter taste in my mouth all the time. I lost almost 10 lbs through my 10 days of this antibiotic simply because of how little I could eat or keep down. Granny Smith apples and yogurt were the only things that didn't have that bitter putrid taste. Not to mention it took 7 days for my fever to break when the doctors told me 3-4."

"By the time I was prescribed this medication, I was at the tail end of a two-week-old. The doctor saw some spots on my throat and prescribed it. The medication has made me more miserable than the actual disease. I can't keep any food in my stomach, and I have constant headaches as well as lingering nausea. Constantly sleepy and tired. It's been four days at this time, and I think I will have to stop early. My doctor prescribed 875 mg two times a day for 10 days."

"Sadly, I have not had a good experience with this medication. I was prescribed this after 8 days of regular Amoxicillin was ineffective against an ear infection that was caused by an eardrum rupture due to flying. Today is the 6th day of this medicine, and I finally gave up and called the doctor. I can no longer handle the nausea, diarrhea, exhaustion, heart palpitations, itching, and malaise. Luckily, I was told to stop the medication and will be seen by my doctor on Wednesday. This may be a good drug for some people, but as for me."

For Sinusitis "I've taken this briefly before but don't remember having side effects like this time around. I wake up in the middle of the night with nausea. I've had stabbing headaches that are worse than my usual vertiginous migraines. My stomach is so bloated and just very upset all the time. My ears feel better, but I started another allergy med at the same time, so I don't know if it's due to that or this. I certainly wouldn't take this med unless you really need it. Can't wait to finish."

For Bronchitis "I don't know how effective this is, but I do know that every time I take this, I get so nauseous, bouts of diarrhea, and am really gassy. It goes away after about 2 hours, but totally not worth it. Will be asking for something different."

For Strep Throat "Completely useless medication. Been taking this for 5 days and absolutely none of my symptoms have cleared up. This morning, I woke up with a pounding headache, and I am about to throw up. Avoid at all costs."

For Middle Ear Infections "I have a chronic otitis media problem which I have had since I was 14 (I am now 37), and the 1 gm dose of Augmentin for a week, 1 tablet daily, is by far the best solution for me. Experienced a bit of nausea, but it's not so bad. This is the best antibiotic for my otitis media condition for now. Love it!!!"
