"These tiny little pills are amazing. I was suffering with migraines every 2 days. I've been taking them for nearly 3 weeks and only had one migraine, and that was in the very beginning. I could cry with relief. It's taken 2 years of migraines to be finally given some sort of relief, and I couldn't be happier. I'm noise reactive, so loud noises can trigger a migraine. I put these tiny pills to the test and went to a friend's birthday party, loud music, people shouting, and nothing. No migraine when normally, the first 5 minutes of loud anything I'd be hunting down pain relief, cold packs, and a dark room. For the first time in what feels like forever, I actually had a great time with friends. They're great. So happy."

"My headaches are tension, rather than migraine. However, the pain was just intense and debilitating. I was missing work a couple of times a month due to these headaches. Dr. started me on this med, and since then, I have had only 2 severe headaches. Dr. also told me that if I do still get one of them, this med would relieve the pain much faster, and the headache would go away faster."

Amitriptyline "I suffered with migraines since I was about 12. I am now 36. My migraine attacks went from moderate to severe after the birth of my daughter. I would get attacks that would last for 10 days and would mimic symptoms of a stroke. I tried Sandomigran, which I gained 8 kg in 3 weeks. Topamax was far worse, which felt like my whole body was burning. I'm now on a combination of Zoloft 100 mg and Elavil starting at 10 mg. Generally, you're not supposed to mix the two because it can cause 'serotonin syndrome,' which can be life-threatening. However, my neurologist and psychiatrist are keeping a close eye on me. So far, Elavil has had the least side effects. I started on 10 mg and will double the dose in 2 weeks. I did notice less neck and head pain."

Amitriptyline "No more migraines since I've been taking Elavil. I use only 12.5 mg per day, taken at night. I have tried millions of other medicines. This is the best. The first few weeks you will be very tired, it goes away, then all will finally be normal with no more head throbbing. I cocktail with 10 mg Lexapro. It's been 1 and 1/2 years of no migraines."

"If I could give this a ZERO, I would. My doctor prescribed this for migraine prevention, and my 1st dose sent me straight to the ER with the worst panic attack I’ve ever experienced! I felt like I was literally dying. My BP was 205/130, and my pulse was 180. I’m not sure how I didn’t die, they had to give me Ativan to counter the effects. Ever since then, I’ve been dealing with regular anxiety and panic attacks. This medication set off something inside me, and I truly hate it."

"As far as helping me with my migraines, it helped out a lot. I had absolutely none after 3 weeks of taking the medication, however, it made me feel like a zombie throughout the day. For some reason, when I didn't take it exactly on time, I wouldn't be able to fall asleep at night. I also gained a great amount of weight."

"When I first started amitriptyline 10 mg, the only side effects I noticed were a bit of fatigue and dry mouth. I did not see an improvement in my migraines, but an improvement is not expected early on. Once I went to 20 mg, I had an extreme mood shift where I became quite depressed and apathetic, and I felt quite awful for 3 days or so. After that, the side effects wore off, and it didn't feel like I was taking any medication at all. I have now been taking amitriptyline for two months at a current dosage of 25 mg per day. While the side effects have subsided, I have not seen any improvement in my migraine frequency (20+ days/month) or severity. My doctor and I are planning to switch to topiramate in the coming weeks."

"Amazing drug... Not sure why I did not take it earlier... Migraine gone just after the first dose... Minimal side effects... Anxiety reduced a lot. I'm surprised a small, tiny pill can have such an effect."

"I had 3 to 4 migraines a week and was sleeping very badly. 2 weeks into taking amitriptyline and the migraine is gone. I'm sleeping at least 7 hours a night too. I don't know if this will last, but it's working brilliantly at the moment. The initial tiredness side effect stopped 1 week in."

"I had migraines for 11+ years. It took probably 7 years to finally find sumatriptan for the abortion of an acute attack, which would happen 2-6 times a week. I would react to weather, stress, lack of sleep, 3-D movies... you name it. Once I started PA school, due to stress, migraines became an almost daily thing, and it would debilitate my life and studying to the point I couldn't stand anymore. Since I have insomnia for many years, amitriptyline sounded superior to other options, and I started taking 10 mg before going to sleep. It's my week 3 with all possible triggers and absolutely zero migraines! I am so happy I can't even believe it worked so well. I only had one small headache (which used to be often too). And I definitely fall asleep better!"

"Absolutely effective! I suffered most of my adult life with debilitating migraines. My doc recommended that I try 25 mg at bedtime (half a yellow pill). I rarely get migraines anymore. I used to get migraines 4+ times a week, now I get them maybe once a month (if that). Side effects: I take this medication within one hour of wanting to be asleep. This medication kicks my ass. Knocks me out."

"I've suffered from migraines/daily headaches that painkillers don't touch; symptoms include visual and auditory disturbances and sometimes even partial loss of vision. Sumatriptan's the only thing that works, but I need to take it daily, often twice daily. My GP was alarmed at sumatriptan use, so prescribed me 10 mg amitriptyline a night, and after a couple of weeks, the migraines and headaches were gone. Worked so well I went months without using sumatriptan and eventually forgot about the headaches and stopped the amitriptyline because of the sides (huge appetite, weight gain, next-day drowsiness), and I've had a migraine from hell for a week, and I'm back to taking sumatriptan daily. Restarted amitriptyline, and I won't be stopping again!"

"I was having migraine headaches anywhere from one to four times a week. I have been taking 10 mg, and I am down to one a month. This has been a lifesaver. The side effects are manageable for me. I've had dry mouth, constipation, and the first month I had difficulty waking up in the morning."

"My doctor prescribed 25 mg nightly before bed to help prevent migraines. I've been taking it for about 2 months, and I've gone from 6 separate migraine attacks in a 2-week span to 4 in a two-month span. I may need to up the dosage soon because 3 have been recent (within the last month). Anywho, it helps me sleep wonderfully at night without making me groggy before or after bed. I also have no harsh side effects like thoughts of suicide or anything like that. 10/10 would recommend for migraine sufferers - I have it a 9 because I think I need to up my dosage."

Amitriptyline "My neurologist started me out on 10 mg of Elavil, and within a couple of weeks, I began taking 25 mg. It took about a month for it to take effect, but until then, I had a headache almost every single day. After that, nothing. So, yes, it was very effective for me. The only side effects that I noticed were increased appetite (very much so) and weight gain. I gained about 12-14 pounds within the 4.5 months that I was on Elavil. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem. To be honest, the added pounds were worth being pain-free, but my wedding was in a few months, and nothing besides going off the medication would stop the weight gain. Now I'm taking Topamax, which is doing the job, but the side effects are way more drastic than Elavil."

"I suffer from chronic migraines, but I am only 15 years old. I had to be taken out of school for some time because of them. I was prescribed 10 mg of amitriptyline to take every day, and it has been great. I now get very few migraines and of lesser severity. I do, though, experience some dizziness, which made it harder to participate in sports, but overall, my experience has been good."

"I suffered with vertigo migraines for two years before I was put on 10 mg of Endep, felt the difference within a week, and went up to 20 mg a couple of months after. This drug gave me back a life, I was able to go back to work, and after not being able to lie down to sleep for weeks, I am now sleeping with just one pillow! Vertigo was horrendous, no headache, just vertigo and pressure in my head. Had to up the dose after being on it for two years just recently and waiting for it to kick in, but after having another attack a week ago, I realized how great this drug is and how terrible I feel with vertigo migraines. Definitely recommend this drug, worth trying for at least two weeks because I found side effects really decreased after that time."

"I'm 27 years old, I was diagnosed with acute migraines, and my family doctor prescribed me amitriptyline HCL 25 mg right before bed. I have had no headaches since then, never told I would feel better. But my sensitivity to light has become very bad, and I spend the morning hours very sleepy."

"After trying every sort of medication for migraines, my doctor prescribed amitriptyline. My headaches were gone the very next morning, and they have been gone ever since. Yes, I was groggy for about two mornings upon waking up, but that went away quickly. I take amitriptyline at night and do not experience any fatigue at all the next day. Thank you for this medication."

"When I was a child, I suffered severe migraines almost every day. I would have to lay in a dark room, and most times they would be so bad I would vomit. After running extensive tests, doctors decided to put me on amitriptyline. I can't recall the exact dosage, but I was on it for a couple of years. It worked like a charm, and I get probably 1 or 2 migraines a month. Wonderful medicine!"

Amitriptyline "I'm a 16-year-old girl. I have been on tons of medicines for migraine prevention, and nothing seemed to help. One day, I ended up in the E.R. and missed much school. When I started on Elavil at 10 mg, it seemed to not do much, but when my dose was increased to 30 mg, I tend to have less frequent (2-3) migraines a week. My migraines are less intense, and I'm able to do my studies. The dry mouth is much less when I chew gum, but I tend to be tired all the time. This medication has worked the best for me, although not perfect."

"I've suffered from migraines since I was a teen, but as an adult, they became unbearable. After the death of my mother going on five years this December, and a year to the date then my grandmother, my depression was at a high. I don't think it's describable. My nerves and patience were all over the place, my migraines had gotten to the point I had to take shots for the pain! I was rushed to the hospital one day for a headache that I felt was going to take my life, the same as a headache did my mom. I had swelling on the brain, I was put on three different combinations of meds. Out of the three, I figured out the amitriptyline was the one that managed all my symptoms, especially my headaches, and later discovered my insomnia! To this day, I still take it."

"I started taking 10 mg every night, but noticed a significant change in emotions. I have had depression in the past, but it was never bad. I noticed that while on this drug, I was severely depressed and crying every day, and having suicidal thoughts. I then looked up the side effects of this and found that those were some of them. This caused me to stop taking the medicine, even though it definitely decreased the amount of migraines and headaches I've been getting."

"My migraines have been cut in half by using 10 mg Elavil daily. I used to get severe headaches 2 times per month lasting at least 3 days each. Now I get about 1 every 4-6 weeks, and for the most part, they last a day or 2 and are much less severe. I used to be bedridden for days, and it's happened only once or twice since starting Elavil 6 months ago. I pray that this continues and that I don't build a tolerance and have to up my dosage because I don't like taking meds."

"This medicine has given me my life back. I can go months without a migraine. My home life is great because I can go back to doing the things I love, and I am no longer in fear of losing my job. I have become productive again!"
