For Depression "I have only been on this drug for two weeks, and as yet, I have not noticed any difference with my depression. My anxiety levels are up, I have swooshing, buzzing noises in my ears. I even feel dizzy while seated and even just turning my head from side to side. I have noticed tingling in my fingers. My balance is affected, feeling like a drunk person. My head throbs."

For Depression "My father has been on Endep (low dose) for a few months and has slept 20 hours a day, however, he is pain-free for the first time in a long time. I don't know if the trade-off is worth it, but his pain was unbearable, but now he has no life. Just sleep."

For Insomnia "Works okay. I have bulging discs, a tear, depression, and anxiety. On this, I sleep well. Loss of sex drive, anxiety, and stress still high. Doesn't help the pain so much in my back. I sleep really well at night after 100 mg, but I wake up tired and need to nap for 2-3 hours and be in bed by 9:30 pm. Just always wanting to sleep and lazy."

For Anxiety and Stress "Been taking it for 6 years, initially for depression, then anxiety and stress, and it's one of the worst things to happen to me. Constant eczema where my skin gets very itchy and sore, that I have scars all over. Constipation is probably the worst, as I've had periods of vomiting, my stomach being sore and bloated, blurred vision. It's addictive, contrary to what doctors say, as I have been trying to get off it for 2 years slowly and have been admitted to the hospital twice in that time for substance abuse relating to Endep. Doctors can't understand why I have been on it for so long. Take mine at night as you get drowsy during the day on higher than 50 mg (the most I took was 75 mg), now on 10 mg and still get constipation."

For Chronic Myofascial Pain "This medication should not be taken lightly. It has some terrible side effects. I’m taking this to help with my burning mouth syndrome (BMS), which has brought on anxiety. If it wasn’t for my BMS, I would never take Endep. People should be aware of the side effects this medication can have, as it’s made me sick. Once I take the medication any higher than 75 mg, I know the side effects will come on (shortness of breath, chills, etc.). I’ve woken up many nights in chills and fever in my chest, and I’ve taken myself to the hospital, as I thought I was going to die. The latest, I’ve woken up with tremors and taken by ambulance to the hospital."

For Interstitial Cystitis "I have to say that Endep is simply wonderful in shutting down the symptoms of interstitial cystitis (IC), but the side effects are horrendous. I have tried for 5 days, but every day I feel worse. So I have given up. I will go back to Ditropan and try increasing the dose. If the people who make Endep ever read this, please do something to reduce the side effects, because this is such a wonderful medication for those of us who have IC, but the side effects are just too much to deal with."

For Fibromyalgia "Two days after taking Endep 10 mg, 50% of my pain was gone. Lasted three days, then the pain came back. Up the dose to 20 mg and pain reduced again, but legs feel twitchy and restless in the day. A weird feeling, usually happens at night. Will keep trying and see if it goes away. Next step up to 30 mg. So far, it’s better than being in constant fibromyalgia pain 24/7. It did take 4-5 days to get used to the sleep side effect. Within an hour of taking, go straight to bed and try to sleep. Able to sleep with only waking once. Does make you tired in the morning, but again it’s better than the pain. Worth a try. Good luck."

For Depression "I dropped 50 mg of Endep cold turkey over 3 years ago. I ended up with 24/7 migraines for a month, collapsed, and was taken to the hospital, and unfortunately, the doctor started me back on Endep. He said they were good for headaches. Left the hospital on a small dose and started having panic attacks all day, every day, collapsed, and was put back in the hospital. They increased my dose of Endep. I am now trying to get off it again as it is not working, I am decreasing the Endep by 5 mg a week."

For Insomnia "Fed up with 10 years of insomnia after menopause commenced, my doctor started me on Amitriptyline earlier this year (2021). I have been taking 50 mg in the evening and sleep soundly. No more 2-3 a.m. awakening or tossing and turning. I wish I had found my current doctor years earlier as this medication has been a lifesaver. I've only gained a small amount of weight, but that's my own fault for sometimes snacking during the evening."

"I have had chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs) for over 50 years. I have vesicoureteral reflux, which has atrophied my right kidney. My last scan showed it to be 45 mm, and I've had occasional sepsis. I also have rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and anxiety. Recently, my rheumatologist put me on Endep, initially 50 mg a day and increased it to 200 mg a day over a few months. After waking constantly to go to the bathroom at night, I am now sleeping through the night. I wished I had tried this sooner."

For Pain "I got shingles in December 2016 and have been on and off Endep since then. It helped my shingles pain, but I get very little sleep. I have to make a choice of not sleeping due to pain, taking Endep and having no pain, and still not sleeping. If there was a natural alternative, I'd use that, but I've been told that there isn't any. I take Axit for my PTSD and OCD, plus Norflex for my grinding teeth at night. I've had insomnia since I was a kid and refuse to take sleeping pills again."

For Pain "Endep worked for pain 100%, but put me in a mental ward. Destroyed my life. Get tested to see if you are allergic to amitriptyline first. It was very dangerous for me. I only had 13 tablets."
