For Depression "Began taking Xanax during a time when my one and only child left home for college and I lost my job a month later. It allowed me to cope and move forward. The most I ever took was 1 mg per day, but I now take 0.25 when I have periodic depression and anxiety. I sometimes go 6 weeks without taking one. The best way to describe it is like rebooting your mind. Life saver for me."

For Anxiety "I don't have panic or depression problems. I have sleeping problems. I fall asleep fine, but wake up around 2 AM and cannot go back to sleep because my mind is too active thinking about stupid stuff like movies, lawn mowers, hunting, visiting my grandkids, working on my car, music, planned projects, football, YOU NAME IT. I take Xanax when I wake up early and can't sleep. Xanax makes me go back to sleep almost immediately and I wake up around 6 AM feeling great. I have not noted any side effects, but I take it only when needed."

For Depression "I have been taking 1mg Xanax 4 times daily for 25 years. It is the greatest medicine for depression ever! No, it does not make me drugged-sluggish or anything bad. Xanax lifts me up when I get down, and I do not even want to think about never having Xanax. I know of several friends and family members it would change their life for the better if their doctors would only prescribe it to them. Of course, they should not start on the dosage I take but at least get them started and take it from there. The antidepressants just don't do it for me. I have tried several over the years, and they just make things worse for me. Xanax allows me to be happy and tolerate the tough times."

For Panic Disorder "Before I was prescribed Xanax, I weighed 90 pounds, had bags under my eyes, couldn't get out of bed, had no appetite, was dehydrated, couldn't leave the house, or even speak to anyone. I have severe anxiety and depression, and also suffer from PTSD. Thoughts of suicide were everyday, and I had to be basically babysat 24/7 to make sure I didn't do anything stupid. I don't understand why everyone talks about the negative effects of this pill when people like me actually need it to function and live a happy lifestyle. Since taking it, I've gained healthy weight, no longer throw up from anxiety, I have friends now, and do activities I never thought I would without having panic attacks. It's a great feeling to be able to live again. Thank you, Xanax."

For Depression "I've had big problems with both depression and anxiety, and I've tried most of the benzodiazepines that are available (Diazepam, Clonazepam, Flunitrazepam, Nitrazepam, Oxazepam, and so on), and also a couple of different antidepressants. SSRI's and Mirtazapine (brand name 'Remeron'). And after trying all of these different medications, I didn't think I EVER could get rid of the depression and anxiety and live a normal life (which in turn made me even more depressed), but then in comes Xanax! And it didn't take long before I was almost entirely free from both the depression and the anxiety, which had such a strong grip on my life for such a long time and almost ruined my life! I really feel like I owe my life to the wonderful Alprazolam!"

For Anxiety "I had severe anxiety and agoraphobia. I have been on Xanax for about 3-4 months, starting with 0.25mg in the morning and 0.25mg at night, and now I take 0.5mg twice a day. I feel great. I no longer have panic attacks, and my life has become much easier. The world feels more familiar, and I can go anywhere. It's like I have wings now. While I plan to eventually stop taking the medication, for now, I accept my situation because I enjoy the feeling of truly living. As someone who used to fear death as much as life, now, I LIVE."

For Depression "I have been taking 0.5 mg, 1 at night for 8 years. I get 30 for a month's supply. It has been a miracle for me and my depression. I have tried all antidepressants which only make me feel worse and even suicidal. Xanax is a lifesaver for me. My doctor now wants me to start again with an antidepressant. I will not. I think he wants to wean me off Xanax because of all the negative addictive effects."

For Anxiety "Xanax has saved my life. I've been on them for almost four years. I am depressed, have panic attacks, and severe anxiety. Xanax has made me feel normal. I can now be in public unlike before it would make me nervous. I can deal with working and school without having severe anxiety. Racing thoughts and worrying constantly are no more, Xanax takes that away. I'm not as panicky, just relaxed and can handle issues, stress, everyday life better. I highly recommend Xanax if you have anxiety or panic attacks. I'm on 2mg twice a day. I take one as soon as I wake up, one in the evening, then my sleeping medication at night. I love Xanax for helping me."

For Anxiety "I have been using this drug for several years for my anxiety attacks, and it's great. But anxiety has been getting worse and worse, especially during work which causes heart stress (thanks so much anxiety...), so my doctor is now letting me take it during my 5-day work week. It works excellently. I am so much more calm and present at work. I will say I am a lot more lethargic, and that is noticeable. But otherwise, I have no side effects, so I will continue with this treatment, and I am so glad that it is so effective. The good outweighs the bad for me, but I will say that if you tend to be more dependent on drugs like these, I don’t recommend it for you. I have no addiction to it and no withdrawal symptoms when I go days without after taking it for multiple days in a row. So just be aware, and pay attention to your body. If you are struggling with learning the difference between wanting another dose and needing another dose, talk to your doctor."

For Anxiety "I have been on quite a few antidepressants in addition to Xanax. The antidepressants made my anxiety and panic worse, needing to increase my intake of Xanax when on the antidepressant(s). I was really reluctant to take the Xanax when I was first prescribed the medication. I have been off Pristiq for 8 months now and have lowered my Xanax from 1 mg in the morning, 1 mg midday, and 2 mg at bedtime. I am now taking 0.5 mg in the morning and 1.5 mg at bedtime. I am taking vitamins, doing yoga, and taking better care of myself. My doctor knows, I am honest. He wanted me to take 2 mg every 8 hours but never did. My Mother just died a few weeks ago and I have been getting really bad anxiety and still the same dose helps me. Hope this helps."

For Anxiety "Xanax has probably helped keep me alive and breathing over the last two years. The toll of being a military wife, mom, full-time worker, etc. had me so stressed out that I began to procrastinate on EVERYTHING because I couldn't emotionally handle things like paying bills, running errands, etc. I only take 0.5mg of Xanax as needed, but just knowing it's in my purse helps me keep my busy life moving ahead. Combined with Zoloft for depression and Ambien for insomnia, I finally feel like a normal person. I feel sorry for the woman I used to be, but I'm so happy to be myself now."

For Anxiety "I used to get very aggravated over what normal people handle. I would go off. Have panic attacks and not know how to deal. Plus, I have tremors in my hands, mostly my right. Once I started taking Xanax, the tremors stopped. I could deal calmly with my children when they got out of control. It helps me concentrate easier during the day & sleep well at night. It can have side effects though if you don't take it properly! Take it as prescribed and don't make yourself go through the withdrawals."

For Panic Disorder "Just got prescribed 0.5mg of Xanax. Within a half hour, the intrusive thoughts and panic attacks stopped. Taking sparingly, only when needed. Definitely a good thing to take at your worst moments, but not good for regular use."

For Panic Disorder "I've tried Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, and many more antidepressants and none of them worked for my severe anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, and post-traumatic stress disorder. I struggle with panic attacks on a daily basis, but Xanax has helped me so much and I've come a long way. Panic attacks are one of the worst conditions to have."

For Anxiety "I had been on paroxetine (Paxil) on and off for 15 years, which worked great for treating generalized anxiety, depression, obsessive thinking, self-esteem, and sociability. Without medication, I feel like I'm going crazy with the nonstop chatter in my brain and constant worry and doubt. I have achieved so much while on paroxetine, but it eventually pooped out on me on the highest dose. For 2 months, I have tried Lexapro now, and I feel like it is just making things worse. But when I take 0.25 Xanax, I feel a lot better, and the anxiety, constant worry, butterflies in the stomach, and dreadful feeling about life dissipate. The cloud over me lifts, and I can actually feel positive emotions again. They say the benefits of Xanax only last a few hours, which is why they can be so addictive, but I feel relief for about 24 hours on the smallest dose. It is making this transition in finding a new long-term solution for my anxiety and depression at least bearable on the days that I really need relief."

For Panic Disorder "I have used Xanax since 1996. I love it. It has saved my life so many times, I can't count. I have gone through different times in my life where I had to take 9mg a day just to survive the panic attacks. My attacks come in cycles. I have had them since I was 7 years old, and I am now 39. I am so tired of them and feeling them. I had a big one today, as a matter of fact. I am going through withdrawal of getting off Lexapro. I am never without my Xanax though. Simply carrying it around helps keep off the panic attacks sometimes. If I hadn't had it, I would have been put away or had killed myself long ago, because having panic attacks is no way to live."

For Depression "This is the only one I feel safe taking. I'm prescribed 0.25mg 2x a day or as needed. I took Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Seroquel, etc. Felt horrible coming off all of these. With Xanax, I feel like I can take it when I need it and put it down the next day if I don't. Unlike the other antidepressants that cause brain zaps or worse side effects, feelings of a rollercoaster coming down."

For Panic Disorder "I hear a lot of people saying the same thing about this being sort of like a miracle drug. That is what my psychiatrist and doctor call it. It is quite amazing how you can be going through a full-blown panic anxiety attack and just not too long after taking Xanax. It's like night and day. It's definitely good to have one of these on hand if you suffer from anxiety or panic disorder. Sometimes just knowing I have it helps me. Anyway, 10 out of 10 very addictive but definitely works. As long as you're not popping them every couple of hours, I think most people on here will find that it works great."

For Panic Disorder "Have had symptoms of panic attack and anxiety disorder for over 50 years. Diagnosed in 1980 by a psychiatrist. I was able to lead a high-functioning life and hold down a 20-year high-functioning career with the state. After this many years and all the reading that I have done, and also my experience in working with psychiatric patients, I understand what a benzodiazepine can do. In my estimation, it is the most dangerous drug, bar none, to detox from. Because of the opiate epidemic, it is being suggested to the medical community to curtail the use of benzodiazepines. If I came away with nothing from this post, I hope to come away with the fact that doctors need to be educated on the dangers of removing patients from long-term benzodiazepine use without titrating."

For Depression "I agree with everything that has already been said here. I am just so incredibly grateful that I was able to build a trusting relationship with my doctor so that he feels comfortable prescribing it. Xanax really is the only thing that helps me untangle myself when the anxiety takes over. What I love the most is that I can count on it to do the job and not leave me feeling strange later. It just smooths out the wrinkles and kinks that I get into every so often. Just knowing that I have it in my cabinet to lean on is in itself a big help for me - my secret tool. Yes, it's a shame something so helpful to us is abused, but that is with everything in life. Be happy we aren't Guinea pigs anymore with the crappy meds :-)"

For Anxiety "This stuff is a godsend for my nighttime anxiety attacks. It acts quickly, getting me back to sleep, stopping the gremlins in my head dead in their tracks. This may sound weird but Xanax also seems to improve my vision, especially at a distance. I had noticed this also with Valium in the past. My eye muscles relax too instead of straining. Not complaining!"

For Panic Disorder "I first started taking 0.25 mg. It worked like a miracle pill. I was also having trouble sleeping. I tried everything: antidepressant, Ambien, Lunesta, Restoril - you name it, I tried it. Now, after 3 hours on Xanax, I use a 1 mg pill before bed and I sleep like a rock, and very rarely do I have an attack during the next day. If I do, I take 0.25 mg, and in 15 minutes, I'm fine. For me, it took care of both sleeping and panic attacks!"

For Depression "I have dealt with depression, anxiety, social phobia, or social anxiety, whichever label they want to use for it these days. I have dealt with these issues pretty much since kindergarten. Well, mainly the extreme social phobia/anxiety at that time, which they used to just call 'shy'. When I was 18 and was seeing a psychologist, he diagnosed me as having agoraphobia. I'm guessing because they really didn't have the term 'social phobia/anxiety' at that time. I finally started taking Paxil, and it worked well for 10 years. Then, I maxed out on dosage, and it stopped working. I tried all the other SSRIs/SSNRIs. Effexor XR worked best but didn't help anxiety or social phobia issues. I got on Klonopin, then Xanax eventually. Benzodiazepines are life savers for social phobia."
