Acamprosate for Alcohol Use Disorder "Miracle. Been taking Campral for about 4 days and I’m already seeing great benefits. The last few years, I’ve been a heavy drinker due to a lot of trauma in my life. I’m 42 now. I was always able to quit but it never lasted, no matter the AA meetings I went to, therapists, etc. I think mostly because not drinking made me anxious, with racing thoughts, worry, irritability, tiredness, depression, anger, loneliness, etc. I stumbled onto this med after finally going back to my GP. I had no idea it even existed, and I researched the internet for years looking for something to ease my symptoms. I’ve been alcohol-free for a couple of weeks now but feel COMPLETELY different. No more bad symptoms! It’s gotta be this medication. It makes you wonder if the alcohol companies lobby to suppress this drug’s existence. That’s how helpful it’s been for me. I’ve taken antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, etc., and this now is all I need! I hope Campral works for anyone else needing and begging for help for their alcohol dependence or being an alcoholic like I was, it really is the drug that works for alcoholism."

Acamprosate for Alcohol Use Disorder "Heavy drinker every night for about 5 years - bottle of vodka or a couple of bottles of wine. Done myself a lot of injuries nearly lost my job so I have just started this drug only 2 days ago so still feel anxious at night, when I would usually drink so trying to find hobbies and interests to fill my mind instead. I was inspired by everyone's comments here so wish me luck."

Acamprosate for Alcohol Use Disorder "Doesn’t seem to work for me all that much. I’ve been on this a while, 2 tablets of 333 MG three times a day. It caused me to have allergic reactions too, such as hives and itching. The shakiness (DT's) still has not gone away. I’m 22 days sober today from alcohol dependence. Prior to that, I was clean for 60+ days and had a relapse only over the course of 8 days. So this detox shouldn’t be bad. Even with all these meds that I’m taking, my anxiety becomes overwhelming sometimes, and I feel like picking up a drink, however, I still haven’t and want to remain sober. So, my doctor prescribed me a low dose of Librium (25 MG) and told me to take 1-2 times a day just until my symptoms are under control. I was taking Vistaril, but it didn’t help enough for me personally. For me, this alcohol craving pill might as well be a sugar pill."

For Alcohol Use Disorder "I am a 41-year-old female. Since I was a teenager, I have done multiple drugs, alcohol to self-medicate and also for recreation. From the alcohol, I got cirrhosis at 38. After my hospitalization, I quit for 10 months. And I was back to drinking after the second year of sobriety. My liver levels started to get worse. I would have good streaks but then drink again, not that much drinking but enough to hurt me when you have cirrhosis. I came upon the name of this medication and saw that it goes through the kidneys, not the liver. I got my PCP to prescribe it. It takes away the jittery, scared, empty, and searching feeling that I used to get when I would wake up and look for things to get high from. I literally feel calm. I don't want drink or drugs. Seriously, I never would have believed this medication existed. And it doesn't make you dopey. I only take half a dose three times a day. If I had known about this in my 20s, I'd be a different person right now. Good luck, everybody, but I've had no"

For Alcohol Use Disorder "I was prescribed this in 2017 during an outpatient dual diagnosis (alcohol and anxiety/depression) program. I have really bad anxiety and depression, and alcoholism runs in my family. I was feeling so much more like myself and stayed sober for 5 months. After that 5 months, I've been drinking (a lot) pretty much every day since. It didn't do enough for me, so I'm finally going to talk to my doctor about trying gabapentin and getting off of benzos and Lexapro. I haven't felt like myself for years, and a lot of people on here say gabapentin can get you off of benzos and alcohol and make you feel like yourself again."
