Acamprosate for Alcohol Use Disorder "Miracle. Been taking Campral for about 4 days and I’m already seeing great benefits. The last few years, I’ve been a heavy drinker due to a lot of trauma in my life. I’m 42 now. I was always able to quit but it never lasted, no matter the AA meetings I went to, therapists, etc. I think mostly because not drinking made me anxious, with racing thoughts, worry, irritability, tiredness, depression, anger, loneliness, etc. I stumbled onto this med after finally going back to my GP. I had no idea it even existed, and I researched the internet for years looking for something to ease my symptoms. I’ve been alcohol-free for a couple of weeks now but feel COMPLETELY different. No more bad symptoms! It’s gotta be this medication. It makes you wonder if the alcohol companies lobby to suppress this drug’s existence. That’s how helpful it’s been for me. I’ve taken antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, etc., and this now is all I need! I hope Campral works for anyone else needing and begging for help for their alcohol dependence or being an alcoholic like I was, it really is the drug that works for alcoholism."

Acamprosate for Alcohol Use Disorder "I was a two bottle plus red wine drinker every day of the week. Have been on Campral for a week now. The cravings have gone. I test myself by going to the local pub to meet friends and see if I weaken. Not a drop of booze passes my lips. I watch others knocking back the beer, wine & Gin etc. and I am quite happy with a Virgin Mary, lemonade and bitters or orange juice. I think two pills three times a day is excessive so I'm going to my doctor and see if I can take it down to 1 pill 3 times a day and then slowly decrease from there. Sex drive is zilch and I sometimes feel unaccountably sad but I have been assured that will pass. Here's hoping. Campral is federally subsidized here in Australia so it's very cheap!"

Acamprosate for Alcohol Use Disorder "Campral works very soon after taking it, and really cuts down on the withdrawal and cravings associated with quitting alcohol. However, as a man, I noticed immediate sexual side effects including lack of interest and difficulty reaching orgasm. I also noticed weight gain, when I normally experience weight loss when quitting drinking. It's almost the perfect medicine besides the side effects."

For Alcohol Use Disorder "I was prescribed this in 2017 during an outpatient dual diagnosis (alcohol and anxiety/depression) program. I have really bad anxiety and depression, and alcoholism runs in my family. I was feeling so much more like myself and stayed sober for 5 months. After that 5 months, I've been drinking (a lot) pretty much every day since. It didn't do enough for me, so I'm finally going to talk to my doctor about trying gabapentin and getting off of benzos and Lexapro. I haven't felt like myself for years, and a lot of people on here say gabapentin can get you off of benzos and alcohol and make you feel like yourself again."
