"I was on Tymlos for 3 months with the normal heart racing, heavy chest side effects, but the side effect that made me discontinue the drug was I woke up one morning after taking it for 3 months with severe back pain that I had not experienced before. The pain has continued for 2 months now. I have had some confirmed back problems for the last 5 years, but after much physical therapy and daily exercise, I have been pain-free for at least 3 years, and then this suddenly happened basically while I was sleeping. I had an MRI done, and my back condition had not worsened on MRI, so my spine doctor and endocrinologist both said to quit Tymlos. I am getting ready to start on Evenity. I hope I have better luck with that."

"I’ve been on Tymlos for about a month. Was on Forteo previously for one year but had to switch as there was a nationwide shortage that the pharmacy could not overcome. I had short-term side effects on Forteo that were similar to Tymlos, but after a few weeks, they went away. The biggest side effect of Tymlos for me is the racing, pounding heart and the dizziness. I take it at bedtime, but it affects my sleep quality significantly. My watch tracks sleep quality, and Tymlos eliminates the deep sleep stage due to the heart palpitations, which last at least four hours. I know this because sometimes I get up to urinate at around 1:30 a.m., and they are still there. So I wake up and don’t feel well rested, even if I have had 8 or more hours of sleep. I’ve tried taking a break for a couple of days, and my deep sleep returns. I’m not sure it’s worth abandoning the drug, but it’s definitely a real downside to this drug. I can’t get a Dexa until I’m done, so no idea if it’s even working."

"I have been on Tymlos for 4 months, but am taking a reduced dose. I had horrible side effects on the regular dose of 80 mcg. I started with 20 mcg and slowly ramped up to 40 mcg which is tolerable. I sure hope this helps my bones as I have broken 5 bones in less than 2 years. I am sensitive to most medications and petite. I usually do ask for half a dose."

"I have been using Tymlos for 13 months. Shortly after I started it, I noticed that my abdomen was getting bigger and then I began to gain weight. I also noticed that I felt tired and did not have a lot of energy. As time has gone on, I feel drained by the middle of the day. Through these side effects, I continue to walk in the park 3 times per week for about 45 minutes and I do my P.T. at home. It is a struggle many days, but I just keep on keeping on! I will be very happy when I no longer have to use this medication and I don't plan on using any other medication after Tymlos. I take calcium and vitamin D twice a day and try hard to eat a high-protein diet."

"I was on Tymlos for 2 years. It was a game changer for me, where my T score improved significantly. While on it, after the injection, I did have lower back pain for a few minutes. My doctor recommended I do the injection at night before bed to alleviate some of that. That helped, and the pain is short-lived. I would continue to take this if I could, but I did my 2 years already. Now I am on Reclast infusion every year, which has also been great."

"I am on my second pen. I have experienced palpitations, nausea, and headache, which are tolerable. But, I have the bone pain others mentioned. The pain occurs randomly, in different areas: ankle, hip, legs, etc. I too had an episode of back pain, I thought I fractured my spine, but it resolved in 24 hours. I also notice that the first void after injecting is cloudy. Has anyone experienced that? Also, each injection burns, has anyone else experienced that?"

"I am starting my 5th pen and I have also experienced some side effects. They come and go, the very first injection caused terrible nausea about an hour after injection. I then started with the rapid heartbeats, head rush, and slight nausea. I have experimented with doing the injection at different times of the day and have found that I feel much better doing it in the evening after taking a bath and before getting to bed. I am pretty active and found that most of the side effects have tampered off when I am at a relaxed state. I still get a rapid heartbeat for about 10-20 minutes but not as bad as before. In the past two months, I am experiencing little zapping body aches in all different areas of my body. They are not horrible but I do feel them - it's a strange feeling. I just turned 53, and my dexa was -3.3, so I was recommended to start this medication. I was also switched to a different thyroid medication, so I am hoping to see positive results."

"Last year I had my first Dexa scan and it was devastating. -4.5! Today I had an amazing improvement. -2.7. June 29, 2023 Spine: Total BMD of the spine L3 is 0.613 g/cm2, with a T-score of -4.5. July 1, 2024 Spine: Total BMD of the spine L2-4 is 0.815 g/cm2, with a T-score of -2.7. I have only been taking Tymlos for two months. But I have been supplementing with Algae-Cal since last August."

"I am about to start my third pen. The first three days, I had palpitations, back spasms, and headaches. Someone told me to drink a lot of water, especially before and after the injection. After that, except for one day, I have had no major side effects. I do think there's some extra joint pain with this medication, but nothing that would be enough for me to stop it. I have had several spinal fractures (with kyphoplasty in 6), and my Dexa score in my spine is -3.5. So it is crucial that I continue and not stop. However, I am concerned about what relay drug I will have to take after this."

"Just started. Full dose 2nd day. Immediately after injection, intense lower back pain. Followed by racing heart, followed by headache. Can't imagine keeping this up. Haven't decided if I will skip a day or cut the dose in half or both, but if I can't get these issues to resolve, then I will be done with Tymlos."

"I’ve been on Tymlos for 16 months for osteopenia. No significant side effects other than one kidney stone (my first, yeow!) at 14 months. Occasional foot cramps, but I can deal with that. Just switched Plan D provider and have to do another pre-authorization, which is always difficult. Don’t know if a lapse in taking Tymlos is acceptable. Will get a scan in 8 months to determine progress."

"Two months on Tymlos, switching to Forteo soon. Within 10 minutes of injecting Tymlos (before bed), heart rate increases about 25 bpm. Heart rate goes back down within 30 minutes or less. Only other symptom is my cheeks have gotten very red and warm. So much so, that friends and family comment. Hope these two things go away when I start Forteo."

"Day 1: headache and tired (ibuprofen did not help). Day 2: severe headache almost immediately and really tired, dizzy, had to just lay down. Left a message for my doctor, but it’s the week between Christmas and New Year’s, so probably limited staff. Will these symptoms go away? I’m afraid to try day 3."

"Took for 4 months, and after 3 months, vertigo got really bad. Thought it was my ear. But part of me in legs got worse, and overall feeling crummy. Heart would race, break out in sweat. I will no longer take this drug."

"The customer service from this company is appalling. Messages are left without return phone calls. My follow-up Dexa scan is scheduled for the beginning of April to determine if I will be able to have my fusion surgery. I have been out of medication since Wednesday with no hope that I will be able to obtain medication for another two weeks."

"I'm 55 years old with a family history of osteoporosis. I recently found out I too have significant bone loss. I took my first dose of Tymlos today. While I did feel a dull backache and headache, that was about it. The injection was easy and pretty painless. I hope the rest of my injections go as well. I was given a month's supply by the doctor. Having a hard time getting pre-authorization to go through for insurance. They need more info, so hopefully I will be able to continue to take it."

"After two weeks, my abdomen around my navel, which is the area I use to inject, started growing. Soft and rounded like a baby's belly. I haven't gained weight. I have read comments on a FB page that other women have noticed the same. So I am not caring that the manufacturer does not recognize this side effect, it is happening. I also have had a few bouts of diarrhea not connected to anything else. Otherwise, I noticed nothing else."

"I am in my 4th month of using Tymlos. I also have a lot of bruising and bone pain. My endocrinologist said that bruising was a side effect but not the bone pain. After reading all of the people that are experiencing bone pain, I plan on letting her know. Obviously, it's not my imagination. She wants me to stay on it for at least a year. I'm not sure I'm going to make it that long. There is always some part of my body that aches: legs, arms, neck, back, even feet. Also, when I walk now, my feet feel like they are on fire. Not sure what to do. Feeling helpless."

"Started Tymlos full dose, and it made me feel odd, but tolerable. The palpitations were better after one week. Then I got bone pain in my leg-very different from any pain I've had before! Woke me up. After skipping it for a few days, the pain went away, so I started back 2 clicks (20 mg) and am up to 5 clicks (50 mg), but starting to get insomnia. I'm a bit into investigating. I found a dose response clinical trial that shows that 40 mg works half as well as 80 mg, but it still works! Even 20 mg has a positive effect. So I may stay with a half dose until I give up and switch to something else."

"Took Tymlos for 20 months. Blood tests revealed that my calcium levels were sky-high and my levels of vitamin D were extremely low. My hair was falling out by the handfuls. Major supplements of D and reduced intake of calcium helped get me back in balance. Had major issues with bad breath. Dentist said it was not originating from oral health. Seemed to go away when I stopped Tymlos. But the most disturbing issue was that after stabbing myself for almost two years my dexi showed increased bone loss in my hips with slight improvement in the spine. Two years of discomfort and social distancing for no major improvement!!! I would not recommend."

"Was on Tymlos for 8 days. First 3 days were rough. Racing heart, headache, dizzy. By day 5 I was feeling pretty good. I found 6 days on 1 day off. When I inject it, I lie in bed with a pillow under my legs. I had to stop it because I got pneumonia for a week. Just started up 3 nights ago. I can’t sleep right now, and I’m a pretty good sleeper. After injection, I immediately get a fog over my head, feels like my brain is mush. This is poison to me, but I’ve had 4 vertebral fractures in one year. All I have to do is lift something heavy, and I break a vertebra. I don’t want to be in a wheelchair. I’ve had four Kyphoplasty procedures. Didn’t give me my height back, but stabilized the bone. Trying to stay the course, be well people."

"I have been on Tymlos now for almost 8 months. I have never had any side effects from day one. I take it in the morning and feel good all day. No problems here. The injection pen does not bother me at all, however, I was on insulin for quite a few years, so I guess I am just used to the injections. The pen is very easy to use."

"I just started taking Tymlos for osteoporosis. I keep getting shortness of breath with no allergic reaction and lightheadedness. When I first inject, low back pain. I also have headaches. The most side effect is shortness of breath. Is anyone else getting these symptoms? Not on it long enough to rate this drug."

"I researched what I wanted to take when I was diagnosed with osteoporosis after fracturing my left femoral neck. I decided on Tymlos and I've been very happy with my choice. I have no side effects beyond a couple of headaches a month and some constipation. I have been on the drug for 9 months, and my lumbar spine bone density has increased by 9.8%, my total hip has increased by 11.6%, and my femoral neck has increased by 4.5%."
