For Birth Control: I love the fact that I can’t get pregnant, I hate the fact that it’s made me gain weight and I know go through mood swings like crazy and it has awaken my long dormant depression again. I stopped taking it after college and just started it again. I’ve taken used it for about 8 years total because I can’t remember a pill everyday. |
5.4
For Birth Control: I started the first pack of Slynd during my period and I had spotting after 2 weeks of the pack for about a week and then I got my period with the placebo pills, as expected for about 4 days. During my second pack I had about 4 days of spotting and some bleeding but then I skipped my period at the end of the 2nd pack (during the placebos) and then on the 3rd pack I didnt have any spotting or breakthrough bleeding until 2 days before the placebos of that pack. So I was clean for about 5 weeks straight, which was exciting. But now I am on my 4th pack and I had heavy breakthrough bleeding only a week after my period ended and I am still waiting for the spotting to stop a week later. The nurse at my gyno practice said it could take up to 6 months for my body to get used to the pill. It has been pretty concerning given that naturally my period cycle was very consistent and regular. I haven't had any other side effects from Slynd other than the irregular bleeding/spotting. For Birth Control: My gyn gave me 4 packs of this pill for free. Goal was to prevent pregnancy but also to get some relief from heavy monthly bleeding/cramps. I’m on pack 4 and still have breakthrough bleeding, it just happens unexpectedly and can last a week or more. Cramps have improved and haven’t gotten pregnant, but I’ve had major cystic acne and dry eyes so they’re bloodshot all the time. No weight gain which is a plus. I feel like a guinea pig since this pill was literally just approved by FDA and there are no patient reviews to be found. Not sure if I will continue taking, I can only imagine what the monthly price will be on a brand new pill on the market with no generic available. |

For Birth Control: I had a mostly positive experience with the Nuvaring, but ultimately discontinued use. Pros: I have a clinical diagnosis of endometriosis, and the ring made symptoms like cramping, heavy bleeding, nausea, and vomiting less frequent and more bearable. My skin was beautiful. My cystic acne disappeared, and I only got 1-2 small, almost undetectable pimples a month. I also loved how convenient the ring is. It’s so much easier to remember to change your ring every 3-4 weeks than take a pill at the same exact time every single day. Cons: The first few months I had some mood swings and got frustrated and angry at little things. This did taper off. Noticeably lowered sex drive (but this might be more connected to endometriosis pain). Near constant spotting. I would spot 8 weeks on, 1-2 weeks off. Spotting was the only reason I discontinued use. I wish my body reacted better to these hormones, because it really is a fantastic BC option. I would recommend it to a friend.
