Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "I was given my first Reclast infusion 5 weeks ago. What a nightmare, after being told I probably won’t have any side effects. I had it on a Wednesday, by Wednesday night, I had horrible nausea, my body aches were horrible, and I had a-fib. This lasted for about 5 days in which I couldn’t eat anything. I literally had to drag myself upstairs to sleep, my body felt so heavy. Fast forward a week out, the joint pain in my ankles started. I am an avid walker and can’t even walk without severe pain and limping. They finally called in steroids after numerous calls telling them my joint pain had not subsided. I’m very scared this won’t ever go away at this point. I will never have another infusion again."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "I've never posted to a drug reaction site before, but feel compelled to share. Had my first (now will be only!) infusion of Reclast. They gave me Tylenol at the clinic, but I had no idea what I was about to experience. The first 12 hours were fine, but I woke with a horribly stiff neck, shoulders, and back, and a low-grade headache. Thought I just 'slept wrong.' The next 7 days have been a journey of joint and bone pain like never before. First hands (unusable). Shoulders, neck still so stiff I couldn't turn my head. Even my clavicle and rib cage hurt. This lasted 2-3 days. Then my toes felt broken. Through the first 5 days, I alternated Tylenol and Advil, with Aleve PM to try to sleep. On day 6, I went back to the doctor and was given IVs (hydration and anti-inflammatory). Also Rx pain meds. Now on day 8, and pain has moved to my legs and knees. Pain meds allow me to function, but I'm wondering if this will touch every area of my body. Never again!"

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "I am on day seven post-Reclast infusion. I’m still experiencing flu-like symptoms. I woke up in the middle of the night after I got the infusion… I was so cold and chilled, nauseous, and my muscles and joints hurt everywhere. It also made me constipated. I will never take this awful drug ever again!"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I had my first Reclast infusion on 4/8/21. I had been on Evenity (romosozumab-aqqg) for the previous year with no side effects and with significant improvement in my bone density. My endocrinologist wanted to seal the increased bone density in with a Reclast infusion. I drank lots of water and took calcium and vitamins D and K. On the 6th day after the infusion, I was off my water and vitamins. That night, I had a headache, swollen, painful joints in my hands and wrists. My left wrist and right thumb joint were swollen, painful, and red. I had chills and a very stiff neck. I definitely started the water and supplements again! These symptoms, except for the chills (only one episode), took about 12 days to resolve. Finally feeling like myself again and am on the other side of it. Not sure if I will take another Reclast infusion."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "I have very bad osteoporosis, plus I need surgery on my spine. The surgeon said he couldn’t do it until my bones were stronger and I needed to take medication. I was terrified about it after reading reviews about Prolia and Reclast, but I had no choice. I had my Reclast infusion in June 2022. I was literally terrified about what might happen afterwards. I am glad to say nothing awful happened to me afterwards. However, after 3 months, I noticed obvious hair loss on the top of my head. I have also realized that the terrible constipation I have had started just after my infusion. I have unexpected bouts of dizziness and feeling faint, hot sweats, instead of getting a bruise, I get big patches of blood just under my skin that take ages to go away. I have also been getting sharp pains in all my joints. Check out ALL the side effects."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I received Zometa IV on 9/26/17, after being informed of all the possible side effects. Although I was somewhat concerned, I was pleasantly surprised when, 2 days later, I have experienced nothing worse than a little more joint pain than usual when line dancing last evening. Hopefully, this medication will improve my bone density or at least keep it stable."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I, too, am a 'victim' of zoledronic infusion. I had been taking Prolia for 3-1/2 years. I went in for a scheduled Prolia injection. I had a scheduled Dexa scan prior. The report showed a bone density increase of 6.8%. The doctor said 'good,' 'but we are not doing Prolia today. We are going to do something better than Prolia.' He said it is an infusion, better than Prolia. He said 'sometimes' insurance does not want to pay for Prolia because it is expensive. He told me nothing about side effects. He said, 'nothing to it, you come in, sit in the chair, it takes about 15 minutes, you get up, walk out, you are fine. You come back in one year.' Everything he said was true until I got home. I started with flu-like symptoms which lasted for two days. The headache and chills went away, but I still suffer from horrible pain in my muscles and joints all over my body and occasional diarrhea. I went back to the doctor after two months of constant pain. He brushed me off, saying my pain could not be because of the injection."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I used this drug, zoledronic, 3 months ago, recommended by an endocrinologist for mild hypercalcemia due to vitamin D overdose! The first day was okay, but then I got 3 days of fever, malaise, tightness in the chest, and neck pain, followed by tachycardia for which I got medication. Thought I’d passed the side effects! In week 3, I got tooth pain and hypersensitivity, which continued to the present time! After a month, I got dizziness for about 6 weeks or so! Now it has been a month since I started having bone, joint, and muscle pain all over and stiffness in my fingers. Can’t walk normally because of plantar foot and finger joint pain, and my left ankle hurts a lot, my wrists got weak and have forearm pain! This is such a potent drug that will take you away from normal life for months! Never use this drug if it would be a substitute for that! I still pay for what I’ve done and think it’s going to last! Hope not to have its serious side effects! The drug is real junk!"

For Osteoporosis "I had my first Zometa infusion on 2/2/2018. Oncologist recommended this drug as I've had breast cancer twice. Bone density test found that I have osteopenia, and thus the drug was recommended. The next day after the infusion, I had severe nausea followed by bone and joint aches. My right eye would tear, and the skin around my eye looked red and purple, like I had a black eye. I did not have much of an appetite for a few days afterward. Today is day 5 after the infusion, and I'm still experiencing joint and bone aches. I'm also taking Arimidex as well, so this might be part of the reason why the medicine is causing me grief. I am prescribed for infusions every 6 months for a total of 3 years. I'll update again in 6 months to let everyone know the next experience."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Age 65. I thought this was going to kill me. Received on Friday. On Saturday, I could not get out of bed. My right knee was huge. (I don't have knee issues). Every joint hurt so bad. Could not move my neck. I took 2 COVID tests on Sunday and Monday. Negative. No fever, but feverish. On Monday, I had to take my PJ shirt off from sweating. Called the doctor on Monday, and she prescribed steroids. I was down for almost 2 weeks. This was poison to me. Never again. Eat right and get exercise."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "This had been a horrible experience for me. I am 68 years old and had my first infusion of Reclast on September 24, 2021. I was in the ER the next morning with a very rapid heartbeat that woke me up in the middle of the night. I thought I was dying. I spent one night in the hospital and had all kinds of tests. It wasn't my heart causing problems. The Reclast is causing joint pain, body aches, headaches, and hands that are swollen and painful. One week out, I still am not feeling well. I will never have an infusion of this drug again. My body hurts from head to toe."

For Osteoporosis "I will be receiving my third, and hopefully my last, infusion of zoledronic Monday, Aug 16th. After my first infusion in 2019, I began having pain in my joints. Later, I began vomiting, and essentially lived in the bathroom for the next 4 days. I couldn't keep down water. The bone pain was horrible, and I was so weak from the continual vomiting. After four days, I began to feel 'normal' again. In 2020, I had my 2nd infusion. This time I got a prescription for anti-nausea medication (ondansetron), and took it three times a day for the first 4 days, along with an Advil/Tylenol combo every 8 hours for the next week. This routine changed the side effects to be minimal. Tomorrow, I will follow this same routine, and hopefully my next bone scan will show improved numbers."
