For Cold Sores "So, I had the itch/tingle thing and was sooooooo bummed. Last time that happened, I took the pills after a cold and when I felt barely a tingle, and I had no eruption. This time, I didn't do it quite soon enough and sure enough, my nose (where I happen to get my cold sores annually, it seems) got red, tingly/itchy, just awful. I started the valacyclovir protocol—and while I had a few white blisters, it interrupted the process and turned into a scab almost immediately. I can't tell you how relieved I am. My last terrible cold sore before valacyclovir resulted in a facial ulcer—no joke—that was like a blobby Hitler mustache. So painful and so unattractive. This time, it seems to have turned it around completely and it was mostly not visible. I am THRILLED."

For Cold Sores "I’ve been getting cold sores since I was a child, and I’m 22 now. I’ve tried everything. After using Abreva and having a horrible reaction to it (I got about 7 cold sores on my lips at once), I went to the doctor, and he prescribed it to me right away. 2000 mg when I feel it or notice it, and another 2000 mg 12 hours later. I like to pair it with the cream version of this as well. The pharmacist says that the cream is less effective, but I find pairing them together helps get rid of them faster, and it’s convenient to have in my purse if I ever run out of the pill form while I’m away. The only problem with the cream is my lips dry up, but it is better than having a large cold sore! If I’m experiencing a full-blown cold sore because I caught it too late, I will take 1 g every 6 hours 4 times to prevent it from spreading. I usually get 2-3 at a time, unfortunately. If I’m experiencing any pain, I apply a polysporin ointment to my lips, which numbs the area, and then apply the cream!"

For Cold Sores "It never stops the sore from appearing. It becomes big, swollen, and very painful. Also, it takes over a week to heal, and during the one to two-week outbreak, it remains very tender and sore. Ouch... It's ineffective treatment for me. I am, however, very happy that it works well for others."

For Ramsay Hunt Syndrome "I've had great success with this medicine. I'm taking 500 mg per day. I've had a few bad incidents when my immune system was low, and I forgot to take meds a couple of days. I got the flu and had herpetic seizures in my face. Another time in my left ear. Both reactions were horrible, with extreme pain and vertigo. Get on the medicine and stay on it for the least symptoms."

Valacyclovir for Cold Sores "I'm 59 and used to get the occasional cold sore outbreaks, however, over the past 5 years, the outbreaks have subsided until this week. I happen to have an old prescription of Valtrex, and it really worked its magic, even though I took it after the sore appeared. In one day, the pain/itching went away, and the sore is barely visible. I only took 1000 MG twice, but discovered that the normal dose should be 2000 MG."

For Herpes Simplex, Mucocutaneous/Immunocompetent Host "We have had the worst run in our house, our 15-month-old twins have HSV-1 in their mouth!! They were so sick, I caught it off them! Being their mom, I would have to apply gel in their mouth, so I did so as normal, and then without thinking, I had to race to the bathroom to use the loo and forgot to wash my hands. Now, as a result of that, I have given myself genital herpes, and boy, am I mad!! This is the most disgusting and painful thing that has ever happened to me! Now, hubby and I are worried hubby's going to catch it off me! I'm just gutted by this!! Docs given me some valacyclovir to use, but we are 2 days in, and my mouth and downstairs areas are still only getting worse! I'm praying things are going to get better really soon!"

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "It only stops the urine burning 2 hours after I take it. Other than that, it burns when I sit in cool or warm water to urinate. I can't go to work, it hurts to walk, and I don't see an end in sight. More sores have formed, but I will say a few went away. I don't feel the pain of the urine hitting them anymore, it's like pain stayed on one side. I'm on day 3, and I still feel like rubbish."

Valacyclovir for Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I don’t remember what year I was diagnosed. I usually try to do the natural route, but this last outbreak really caused me some real pain and distress. I usually take Lysine and just ride it out. Not this outbreak, I took ibuprofen. My genital area and my legs are hurting. I feel like my left leg is so itchy, and it’s taking so long to feel better. So I started Valtrex today. I hope I feel better soon."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "Well, I don’t know when I contracted it, but I got my diagnosis while in nursing school. I got a lesion on my clitoris, and my doctor took a sample, and sure enough, it was HSV 2. I was sooooo upset, sad. I was always the careful person, but I guess not. I was having outbreaks for years, but didn’t know it was an outbreak because it was always by my anus. So I thought it was my hemorrhoids acting up. I now know I had it for years. I do take Valacyclovir and lysine as soon as I start having that tingle. By the next day, I can feel it subsiding. I take another dose the next day, and I’m good. That pain is something I don’t want to go through. It lasts for 7 days, and using the bathroom is so difficult. I can’t tell last I had an actual outbreak since I’ve been combining it with lysine. Miracle worker, those two."
