For Acne "I have been on spironolactone for about 2 months now due to cystic acne. Although a cyst on my face has not gone away yet, I do know it takes about 3 months for the medication to work. My skin has been relatively clear otherwise, where I normally get severe breakouts. Although, I have had some strange side effects. My breasts have been extremely tender and have increased in size. I thought I had developed lumps in my breasts, so I went to my primary care, and she told me the lumps were not abnormal and it was just my body reacting to the medication! I do recommend seeing your doctor if you have severe side effects. Otherwise, I have only experienced slight nausea and slight dizziness. I am on 50 mg twice a day."

For Acne "I started spironolactone in late October for my acne, and I haven’t been having the best experience. I have a very regular period cycle, but ever since I’ve been taking spironolactone, it’s been very irregular. In November, I got my period for only 3 days, which is not normal for me because my period usually lasts 6-7 days. After that period, I got it again 2 weeks early, but this time a normal 6-7 days. I became a little worried. After that period, I got it again a week later! It’s stressing me out a lot and getting very tiresome. I’ve done research and saw that this is normal, and my sister, who takes it, said it was normal too. I just hope my period gets back on track to how it was. I’ve also had a lot of nausea and headaches. Besides those awful side effects, I have seen a little bit of progress with my acne. I have a lot of acne scars, but not really any acne."

For Acne "This is my second day on Spiro. I took one 25 mg pill last night and the same dose the night before that...and I feel so drugged. Although I have taken only a small dose for two days (both before bed), I feel extremely tired, groggy, weak, lightheaded, and nauseous. I also have had to pee loads, and I unexpectedly got my period 24 hours after taking the first pill. I really want to continue taking it because nothing else has worked for me, so I am really wondering whether these side effects subside. So far, these side effects are not worth having amazing skin."

For Acne "When I started to take this medication, I was told by my doctor that I might have nausea and headaches, and it was like that because she said to take this with food, but what she didn’t say was that it’s better to take the pill an hour after you eat the food, and since then I have no side effects!"

For Acne "Going on the second week of taking spironolactone for my acne at a dose of only 12.5 mg because I have blood pressure at the low end of normal. Since yesterday, I’ve been feeling slightly nauseous and brain fog all day, and I didn’t take my dose for today. I don’t know if it’s from the medication or what, but I’m too nervous to take it anymore. It hasn’t done anything for my acne yet, but I don’t know if taking it longer would have helped or not, but I’m too scared to risk it. I really wanted this to work because I’m not one to want to be put on birth control. Maybe I’ll try it again once I feel better to see if it actually was the medication making me feel sick like this or something else."
