For Acne "I began having acne at age 20. Went to a ton of doctors, was put on doxy for 6 months, lots of topicals, and Accutane, and none of it worked. Five years later, it turns out my testosterone levels were way too high and I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Gyno put me on 200 mg a day. First month, I was very nauseous and dizzy. I wanted to sleep all the time. It's been two months and the side effects are gone, but I'm still breaking out. Hopefully, it works after a couple more months. I suggest any adult acne sufferer try this out before you spend years trying things that are not effective. My acne scars are awful and I need dermabrasion now."

"Got prescribed spironolactone by my dermatologist. After a journey of blood tests, finding out my hair loss was not caused by determined factors, going on Rogaine, seeing progress with growing more hair on Rogaine, and giving up on Rogaine altogether because of the hassle, my derm prescribed me these meds. I have been on them for six months now and haven’t noticed a difference in my hair. While my friends have spontaneously told me that my hair has gotten thicker and “better” without knowing I am on hair growth meds, I personally don’t see much of a difference (maybe I’m crazy). I see a difference in my face. I used to have more pimples and an oily face, but in the last month or so, I have had a pimple pretty much every other week. Some of the negatives I have experienced from these meds are feeling dizzy when standing up and almost passing out. I also have irregular periods. The pros definitely outweigh the cons though."

For Acne "I have been on spironolactone for about 2 months now due to cystic acne. Although a cyst on my face has not gone away yet, I do know it takes about 3 months for the medication to work. My skin has been relatively clear otherwise, where I normally get severe breakouts. Although, I have had some strange side effects. My breasts have been extremely tender and have increased in size. I thought I had developed lumps in my breasts, so I went to my primary care, and she told me the lumps were not abnormal and it was just my body reacting to the medication! I do recommend seeing your doctor if you have severe side effects. Otherwise, I have only experienced slight nausea and slight dizziness. I am on 50 mg twice a day."

For Acne "38 y.o. female taking it for hormonal acne. Started at 50 mg. First week, no symptoms. Skin felt a bit dry, and I feel dizzy at times. Second week, minor eye twitch, drier skin, dizziness. Third week, persistent eye twitch, heart palpitations, feeling anxiety building up + the eye twitching = insomnia. The eye twitching was coupled with severe dry eyes. (Do note that my background has dry eyes due to two rounds of Accutane I took 11 years ago). Face was dry, so no acne, but the side effects were too much to bear for me. Went on a lower dosage to 25 mg per day, no effect, went back up to 50 mg a few days before my period was coming because I had 2 cysts on my chin, and the same side effects came back. The eye twitching and dry eyes were the most unbearable part. So, going totally off this drug. It's definitely not for me. Unfortunate, as I have seen so many good reviews on here for hormonal acne."

For Acne "After taking the medicine spironolactone for about a week for acne, I started experiencing severe dizziness. I felt like I was going to fall over. While this may be known to help with acne, it is not really there to treat it. This is a medication to treat high BP. If your blood pressure runs low, do NOT take this medicine."

For Acne "I have been on 100 mg Spiro for hormonal acne for about 4 months now. Also using Tretinoin 0.05% cream. The only side effects I experienced were some dizziness and having to pee more often shortly after taking the medication. I take 2 pills at night before bed now so that I don't get dizzy. The first 3 months of taking this, my skin went through an awful 'purge.' I spent most of my summer hiding out because I was so embarrassed by my skin. Huge cystic bumps, especially on my chin! It was really painful and hard to deal with, but after 3 months it finally started clearing up. Now about 4 months in, and my skin looks so beautiful! If you are taking this, please HANG IN THERE. It's going to get way worse before it gets better, but once you get past the purge, you will be so happy that you didn't give up!"
