"I was prescribed Sertraline (Zoloft) 200 mg by my psychiatrist to treat Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. I've tried in the past Fluoxetine, Citalopram, and Venlafaxine. Sertraline was the very worst medication I have taken to treat Body Dysmorphic Disorder. It simply didn't work. My mood was worse from day one of starting Sertraline and remained that way right up to 200 mg. Unlike Fluoxetine, Sertraline did nothing to relieve the symptoms of Body Dysmorphic Disorder. It did not take away the obsessional behavior regarding my physical appearance. The major side effect I had from Sertraline was constipation, and even taking laxatives did not work."

"I see a positive change in my view of my body. My BDD was not intense all the time, but once in a blue moon, it stopped me from participating in social activities. People warned me I may gain weight, but I’ve lost 3 lbs in a week. I see a difference in my desire to eat and clean my plate, even in the food choices I make. It is still early days, but so far I’m having a positive experience in my mood swings, BED, BDD, and general anxiety. I am unable to drink as much coffee though. So far that’s the only negative. More than one cup in the morning makes me nauseous. Before I was drinking 2-3 cups a day, sometimes more. I don’t view this as a bad change for me though."

"I went to the emergency room for chest pain, thought it was a heart attack. Tests all fine, heart was okay. But it sent me into a panic. They gave me Ativan to calm me, then sent me home with a prescription for 25 mg sertraline. Day 3 today and feeling awful side effects - unsteadiness, dizziness, feeling panicky, can't concentrate, memory issues, no appetite. Going to stop this med. Debating whether I should taper, even though I took it for only 3 days. I'll see... definitely not a good med for me."
