Rizatriptan "Next to Frova (which is, to me, the miracle drug), Maxalt-MLT has been by far the most helpful triptan migraine medication. And it's also quite convenient, as it dissolves in your mouth (without having a horrible taste, even)."

"This medication always takes my migraine away. It is the only medicine that has done that for me. Sometimes I do get rebound headaches from the medicine, but I am pleased that I have finally found something to take the migraine away. I just wish I could find something to alleviate my migraines altogether because I get them way too often."

Rizatriptan "I've had migraines since I was 11 and was first prescribed Maxalt when I was 17. It's wonderful. I take it as soon as I start to notice the signs of a migraine, and about 70% of the time the first dose does the job within an hour or less. Occasionally, I take a second dose if the symptoms haven't gone after 2-3 hours. Very occasionally, it doesn't work at all. It has improved my life enormously. I evangelize about it. My migraines used to last up to 3 days - now I get an unkillable one only once or twice a year. Side effects for me are (as someone else has mentioned) one sneeze within a few minutes of taking it, a little drowsiness, and eventually a little euphoria (though maybe that's a rational response to knowing the migraine has gone)."

Rizatriptan "Maxalt has really changed how I felt about my migraines. Before I was prescribed Maxalt, I would suffer terribly, taking only OTC medications which 'never' helped much. Now when I feel those tell-tale signs of a migraine coming on (I do not experience any 'aura'), I take a Maxalt (and sometimes some ibuprofen, too), and I know my migraine will be gone within the hour! And I'm not sleepy."

Rizatriptan "Maxalt has worked wonders for me. When I have migraines, I never feel like swallowing tablets, so the fact that I have the dissolving tablet is an absolute bonus. Before this medicine, I was bedridden for days at a time, and after a migraine, my head always felt so heavy and like a bowling ball. Now, however, I am able to go to work the next day. I recommend it to every person I meet!"

"I have taken Rizatriptan for 10 years. It's the only medication that works fast to relieve my pain. The packaging is the worst side effect of all! I've learned to peel the foil off the backs of each dose as soon as I get a new prescription. Nothing worse than fighting to open the super foil barrier that lies between my headache and relief! The other side effects are manageable but can depend on the brand of generic I am given. Teva has the least side effects for me but my insurance company doesn't allow me to choose the brand. Common side effects for me are drowsiness, frequency of urine, and sometimes feelings of impending doom. Coffee helps with the drowsiness if I'm in a situation where I have to stay awake. All in all, Rizatriptan is my lifesaver for migraines."

Rizatriptan "Maxalt has saved me from migraines. It tends to make me a little drowsy, but that is a plus for me. I just lay down to take a nap, and when I wake up, the migraine is gone. This is also a plus at night as I could not sleep with migraines. The pounding and the pain would keep me up all night. Highly recommend this to anyone suffering from migraines. The drowsiness is not so bad that if I needed to stay awake, I would be unable to."

Rizatriptan "Maxalt is a lifesaver. I have been using this med for 7 years. Most times, I have to take 2 pills within 24 hours. My problem is I wait and hope my headache won't turn into a migraine. Then, when it is a migraine, I take the pill. By then, it takes hours for the migraine and aura to break. The side effects I can deal with: tiredness, mild nausea, and some dizziness. I recommend Maxalt to anyone who can benefit from it."

Rizatriptan "Maxalt saved my life! It is the only medicine that works for me when I have a migraine attack. I swear by it and carry it with me always, just in case. It literally gave me back my life. I was ill for days that ran into weeks that went into months. It was shocking. I felt suicidal with having no life, and one day, I was sitting in my doctor's room, sobbing, begging him to help me, and he prescribed me rizatriptan (Maxalt). I love it!!"

"I've been taking Maxalt for about 10 years, since it was first introduced. It is a wonderful medicine that got rid of my migraines within 10 minutes, and the first thing to ever work for me, and it had no side effects other than some mild lightheadedness for a couple of minutes. I was very happy when a generic form was introduced, but the generic is truly terrible. It makes me fall asleep for 4-6 hours, and if I manage to stay awake, I slur my speech and feel terrible. The migraine usually comes back. I've gone back to name brand Maxalt. I don't see the point of a cheaper generic with side effects so bad that I can't even go to work."

Rizatriptan "I have suffered with cluster headaches since I was in my twenties. I am now 61 and still get them, sometimes every few months and sometimes I can go several years, but when they hit, they are debilitating and I never know how many days or weeks they will continue. My physician gave me a sample to try as I had been having these headaches almost every day for 2 or more weeks. Within 30-45 minutes, the pressure and pain were gone and my drooping, puffy eye looked normal again. I plan to ask my doctor if he can prescribe a larger quantity so I can take them during these lengthy episodes. I would love to be part of a study on the efficacy of this drug on cluster headache patients. Wish I had known about it sooner."

Rizatriptan "This stuff is awful. It doesn't work, and it literally makes me suicidal, even if I was fine when I took it. I am not exaggerating when I say my life became too much when I took it. I took some this morning, and it wasn't until I was writing out a suicide note that it clicked for me that this stuff makes me crazy."

Rizatriptan "I've been using Maxalt for about 6 years (give or take), and it's about the only medication I've found that really gets rid of my migraines. The MLT version is great when your stomach's so upset you can't keep down a pill, too. The only side effect I've ever had is a tingling feeling in my shoulders. Well worth the co-pay!"

"I tried rizatriptan 10 mg for the first time 2 hours ago when I started with aura affecting my sight, so I knew a migraine was coming. It made me feel a bit weird and faint at first, so I laid down. My hands and feet felt cold. After about 45 minutes, my vision was back to normal, and I then started with numbness in my hands and then in my face and tongue - these are usual side effects of a migraine for me, so I’m guessing this was a side effect of the migraine, not the drug. The pain in my head then started. After about 90 minutes after taking rizatriptan, I was functioning with very little pain in my head, just a groggy feeling. The fact I am writing this 2 hours after starting with a migraine is great. I hope that when I use this drug in the future, the effects are similar, as my migraine symptoms have been much more severe in the past."

Rizatriptan "I've had migraines since I was about 9 years old because of a lifelong battle with insomnia. When I was a kid and I had my first migraine... I thought I was dying. I didn't understand what I had, what set it off, or why I had it. And the pain and all of the vomiting. EVERYTHING hurt. Any light, the slightest noise, and any movement I made while in bed made the migraine worse and I'd start vomiting NON-STOP. The doctor prescribed Maxalt to me. I didn't even know they MADE medicines for migraines, and I have to say I cannot be without it. But as the directions state, take AS SOON as you feel a migraine (not just a headache) coming on. Your body usually gives you signs, for me, it's excessive yawning every few seconds and irritability."

Rizatriptan "I was prescribed this medication because I was experiencing severe migraines multiple times a month. After taking the medication, I usually have to take another pill an hour later, and my headache symptoms will go away. It makes me very sleepy and gives me slight chest pain that feels like heartburn. If I don't rest right after taking it, the headache still goes away, but I get severe nausea, dizziness, and tightness in my chest. The side effects eventually go away, but they are awful while they are occurring. The trade-off of headache and side effects doesn't seem really worth it to me, but that's just my opinion."

"I'm updating my prior review where I gave this 8/10. I now give it 2/10. After taking rizatriptan every so often, it seems to work less and less, and I get a rebound headache every time, which is more painful than the original headache. I only take one pill, I'm afraid to take 2. It used to work for at least 4-6 hours, and now it only helps me for 2-3 hours. I have only taken this for a few months. The last time I took one was 11 days ago, and only 1 pill, so I am not overdoing it. I am currently in the middle of a horrible rebound headache from taking this as I write. I tried sumatriptan, didn't work and had more side effects. Topamax is the worst med on the planet. There has to be something that helps."

"My migraines average 21 days per month at a '6' or above pain. Rizatriptan (1@10 mg) worked EXTREMELY WELL for me for 4 1/2 years, then out of the blue just STOPPED WORKING completely. My neurologist says any triptan can start working again, but it hasn't so far. Apparently, we can develop a tolerance to ANY migraine medication. It used to last for a full 24 hours, took the pain away completely (within 2 hours), and had no side effects. Taking more than 2 times per week seemed to cause rebounds, so I only rarely did 3 times per week. Sumatriptan was a close second. I've tried several other triptans, but none worked as well as these 2. A side note: Even though it's not recommended, I used carefully regulated doses of coffee to manage my migraines every day, and have for several years (ever since the Riza stopped working). I do 1/2 cup every 3-4 hours and stop by 4 pm. Works great, cheap, and no side effects. 'Halo Hat' is fantastic too. I wish you all the best of luck in this very difficult journey!"

Rizatriptan "I have tried OTC migraine medicines and three other prescriptions. Maxalt is by far the best, and MLT makes it nearly perfect. The only bad side effect I have is that the back of my neck gets sore. Maxalt does this far less than Zomig, and taking Advil Liquigels or Vicodin with the Maxalt MLT helps quite a bit. My ideal treatment for a migraine is to take Maxalt MLT and Advil Liquigels, then lay down with something cold on my forehead. Once I am able to doze, I sleep until I wake up on my own. I can't believe how much better I feel after the nap. At work, I just take the two medicines. It takes me longer to feel better, but makes my headache much more bearable."

Rizatriptan "Maxalt, especially the melt aways, are simply amazing. I've had to take them off and on for years (going quite a while without migraines). Then the generic was introduced. I've tried two different kinds. They are not the same! The generic makes my headache get worse right after I take it, then about 1/2 hour later it might work. I'm usually asleep soon after that. I searched for the 'real' deal again, and it is as I remembered. Started working RIGHT away with very little side effects. Maybe a sore throat. Such a miracle for me. It is expensive at times depending on the whim of insurance coverage, but I will pay to have pain go away!"

"I have been taking it for a couple of years now. Most of the time, it does help. The only side effect I have attributed to this medication is tiredness. I find that sometimes I get very tired after taking the medication. I do not know if other variables factor into this. The medication comes in single-pill blister packs, which can be annoying when you have a migraine. I would prefer them just in a bottle like most medications, but there is probably a reason as to why they come like that. Overall, this is a medication that has usually been helpful."

"Was diagnosed with vestibular migraine last year. Initially given sumatriptan but had horrible side effects. Was switched to rizatriptan and have had very good relief. I do not have classic aura, so I'm having a hard time recognizing the beginning stages of the migraine. My prodrome is confusion, pressure behind my right eye, increased loudness of tinnitus, anxiety, and poor balance with dizziness. Sometimes I have nausea but not always. If I take rizatriptan, it makes me sleepy, chilly feeling like I need a blanket, and my feet and hands tingle a bit. I take a tablet, and generally within 40 to 60 minutes the dizziness begins to subside. I'll doze off for 90 minutes or so and awaken alert again without the previously mentioned symptoms. I'm usually quiet for the first few hours after taking the med, then I'm back to myself. This medication has been a great help to me. I'm very grateful."

"I've had migraines for 30+ years, since I was a child. No med has ever stopped one, including hospital-injected opiates, and they last 3-5 days. NSAIDs and lots of ginger will reduce the pain a little. I've been trying rizatriptan for a few weeks, and it's promising! It doesn't 100% kill the migraine, but it greatly reduces it. That is absolutely a miracle for me. It is quite sedating, but that only lasts about 2 hours, and coffee helps (I don't think I would drive right after taking one). I do feel a bit tired the next day. Downside: it tastes so gross. Like cloyingly sweet toothpaste mixed with aspartame. Migraines make me nauseated, so I have to struggle to not throw up from the taste, but at least the meltable format means I can't throw it up as I often do with pills. I just wish the melts were unflavored and tasted like medicine. Also, aspartame is a known migraine trigger! I think that may be why it's only partially helpful for me. But overall, I'm hopeful."
