"I was prescribed this drug for an attack of polymyalgia almost two years ago. Twice I have been on a reducing program, the ESA levels being at 41 going down to 8. The dosage, 35 grams down to a maintenance size of 5 mg per day. This week, still on 5 mg per day, I had my first attack of gout, the ESA level has gone back to 35. And my foot is swollen, red, and painful. I am still taking the 5 mg as directed. What is the dosage recommended for the treatment of gout? I don't understand this. And I cannot see the hospital rheumatologist for a week or two."

"Two weeks of pain, gouty arthritis hit both feet, swollen like balloons, agony. 12 days of Advil (Ibuprofen) and Colchicine did nothing. Asked for Prednisone and here's how it's going. Day 1 - 40mg - Six hours in and a 60% Pain Reduction + 30% Swelling Reduction Day 2 - 30mg - 70% Swelling Reduction + 50% Redness Reduction - Ready for light recovery exercise. Day 3 - 20mg - Itching and some redness - Back exercising and cycling 80km. Day 4 - 10mg - TBC! Side effects - A little wired at night. Nothing else. If Ibuprofen and Colchicine don't make a difference talk to your Dr about Prednisone. 10/10 for me."

"Taken first tablet today after dinner. I’m 27 and had these pains for 5 years, with the doctors being somewhat stumped as to what was causing the swelling and pain in my feet, elbows, and knees. I ended up really poorly in the hospital with a peptic stomach ulcer due to all the ibuprofen I was taking to stem the swelling. While there, they finally found out that I had gout and gave me allopurinol, which I’ve been taking for two weeks now (not reducing the pain). Hoping the prednisone works. Looking at other reviews, I’m hoping to be back walking by the morning."

"Fantastic. Had gout twenty years, severe attacks every few months. Tried allopurinol, made it worse. Used ibuprofen like sweets, plus colchicine. On holiday, spent a week in bed at huge expense and near divorce. Then the chemist gave me prednisolone! Amazing! Been on it ever since, can't live without it, plus gave up beer! Great stuff."

"Agree with all positive comments! It was prescribed as 'take four tabs for 4 days. Then 2 a day for two days,' but I have never gone beyond the four days. The gout simply wanes. I have not had a gout episode in 2 years, but I had a gnarly one last night in my knee. Prednisone taken this AM has me 70 percent better on day one."

"I have been fighting gout in my left toe for over 20 years. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and pain relievers are not effective. Allopurinol has long-term side effects. I tried prednisone last year. It is a miracle drug. Yes, it has long-term side effects, but it works for an acute bout of gout. At the first sign of gout-usually in the middle of the night-I take one 20 mg tablet of prednisone. I get immediate relief after about one hour. Then, 12 hours later, I take another 20 mg tablet. The following morning, I take another tablet. Then, 12 hours later, I take one 10 mg tablet. By then, the inflammation is gone. I've tried to shorten this procedure, the gout returns."

"When my gout flares up bad, prednisone is the only thing that works every time. I’ve had some luck with ibuprofen, Tylenol, and colchicine, but they also haven’t worked sometimes. Prednisone works every time. Definitely need to take it with food, as I tend to get heartburn from it if I don’t eat enough. But for gout, it’s a real winner. Also, I’ve noticed that sugar really sets off my gout when I’m having a flare-up, so for those of you suffering, just FYI, cutting out sugar and refined carbs could help get things under control. I’m also going back on Uloric since that helped in the past."

"Have had intermittent gout once or twice a year for 10 years. Indomethacin was the wonder drug. One pill in the morning and one in the evening, and gout was gone. When I got moderate kidney disease, I had to stop using indomethacin. Last summer, I started getting recurring gout attacks without any dietary stimulation. I don’t eat beef or lamb and I don’t drink. A rheumatologist put me on prednisone, a reducing dose of prednisone starting at 30 mg, after which I started daily 20 mg of prophylactic allopurinol and every other day colchicine. A few months later, another flare and another prednisone regimen. It takes a few days to reduce the flare. My concern is that I am on my fourth time taking prednisone in less than a year. Is it really just an interim measure? How many times taking it is it bad for the kidneys? I’m reading many people getting relief in hours. My present flare is not much reduced a day after starting."

"A few hours after taking this, the swelling on my feet due to gout has subsided. Colchicine, Celecoxib, and Etoricoxib do not work for me, this worked like a charm."
