Pramipexole for Restless Legs Syndrome "I have been on Mirapex for a year. Dr. put me on Gabapentin for fibromyalgia pain. It also says that it works for RLS. I found out the hard way when I forgot to refill my Mirapex that Gabapentin didn't work for my RLS. My leg twitched and jerked all night."

Pramipexole for Restless Legs Syndrome "I have never had any side effects to the Mirapex, but I have all of a sudden started having a gambling problem at the age of 47. It is listed as a side effect, and I wonder if it is the medicine contributing. Requip has the same side effect listed. I have to take it for my restless legs syndrome, or I cannot sleep."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I took pramipexole for 9 days. It made me drowsy, dizzy, and very hungry. And it didn't help my leg twitching. My doctor told me I could stop taking it, so I haven't for 3 days, and I'm still unusually hungry."

Pramipexole for Parkinson's Disease "Besides Mirapex ER causing compulsive behavior (shopping) as a side effect, it seemed to be working fairly well. I was taking the 4.5 mg dose for Parkinson’s. But when my neurologist passed away suddenly, I had to switch doctors. She completely changed my medicine. It’s been almost a month and a half, and I’m in the worst shape I’ve ever been in. Withdrawal for my brain had been unimaginable."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I have been on this medication for more than 10 years and have great control with the Glenmark Generics pill. Yet when the pharmacy changed to the purple pill by Zydus Pharmaceuticals, I found my legs were once again out of control. I asked the pharmacist to change me back to the one from Glenmark. He did, and it worked almost immediately. Has anyone else noticed the difference?"

Pramipexole for Restless Legs Syndrome "My doctor prescribed Mirapex for my Restless Legs Syndrome, and it made me extremely sick! I couldn't even get out of my bed for almost 24 hours and felt like a train wreck! I went back to Sinemet, and it works great and is very inexpensive with my insurance."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "The first and only night I took pramipexole for RLS was so bad. I went to bed immediately after taking it. I get nervous taking new meds, so I thought I could just sleep through any mild side effects. I woke up 2 hours later with nausea, vomiting, slurred speech, and weakness. My boyfriend found me on the floor having extreme muscle spasms. He thought I was seizing. I spent the rest of the night sweating and weak. I’m not saying it doesn’t work for others, just be very cautious, make sure someone is home with you when you take it for the first time."

Pramipexole for Restless Legs Syndrome "This has really helped me. I have had RLS all my life, off and on. The RLS is worse now, I am 74 years old. I have been on it almost a year. I believe I may be getting some side effects lately. I am so tired and can't seem to think straight sometimes. I realize that could be from other things, but I am going to talk to my doctor on my next visit. It is a godsend if you haven't slept for nights."

Pramipexole for Restless Legs Syndrome "I had RLS in the evening and while sleeping for years. Finally brought it up with my doctor. I now take 0.25 mg Mirapex morning and evening. It works for me. If I run out for a couple of days, the restless legs and fidgeties come right back. No negative side effects that I know of."

Pramipexole for Restless Legs Syndrome "I have had mild RLS for about 20 years. But over the past 6 months, it's increased to the point of symptoms most nights. I was exhausted and sleep-deprived, so the doctor prescribed Mirapex. It does work very well to control the RLS, but I have been struggling with overeating! I have gained 6 lbs this month. I would describe it as almost not realizing how much I'm eating, not feeling full or satisfied, and eating though I'm not hungry. Feeling compelled, if that makes sense. Right now, I don't want to stop the Mirapex because it works so well for the RLS, and I don't have any other side effects or problems, just overeating. I'll likely see what the doctor suggests and check out forums for some advice. My advice is, if you want to try this drug, realize that you might get some behavioral side effects and have your family be aware it might be a possibility so it doesn't get out of hand."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "This works for a few years. If you die within this time, it works for you. However, if you live, you will regret all you took. The stories here should help you to take something else. I developed OCD, I was not able to get out of the house. I had to wash or move things all day."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I've had restless leg for years now. I started getting it when I was 18, now I'm 40. I tried everything, the 30/500 co-codamol did work. I did not want to take them long term, my doctor put me on pramipexole, and they work great for me."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I started on pramipexole hydrochloride 6 years ago, and at first, suffered from jerking all the time. My head would always jerk to the left, my shoulders would jerk up and down, and my legs shook all the time if I stood still or sat down. The recommended dosage didn't have any effect on the RLS at all, and slowly the dose was raised. The jerking subsided after a few weeks, and I was able to lead a happy life until a couple of months ago when it stopped working. It was wonderful for 6 years, then, over about a month, it stopped having any effect whatsoever."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I take pramipexole for RLS caused by Parkinson's disease. It does work very well for the RLS, however, I did have some issues. While on the drug, I had purchasing problems instead of gambling problems. I think it's affecting a region in my brain that makes it difficult to say 'No' to issues like gambling and shopping. I knew what it was when my doctor asked me, 'Are you having problems with shopping and spending money?'. That's when I made the connection. My doctor is switching me off of pramipexole to sertraline, which is a drug for Parkinson's. While stepping down from pramipexole, I ran into sleep problems. I did not fall asleep for about 5 days! Wide awake! 5 days! I'm not going to use pramipexole. Bad drug."

Pramipexole for Restless Legs Syndrome "My RLS came out of nowhere in 2/2020. It was bothering me 24/7. I was constantly kicking people. No one wanted to sit next to me. It was embarrassing. By 6/2020, I had had enough! So I saw a neurologist who started me on Mirapex. After a month or so, he would increase the dose. At one time I was taking 0.25 mg, 3 of them, 3 times a day. It really helped me. I now take 2 tablets twice a day. It still bothers me slightly when I get in bed, but once I'm asleep, I'm fine. I have been eating more sweets than usual and put on a little weight. Don't know if this is the Mirapex or the fact that I stopped drinking."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "Made my RLS more tolerable for about a year, then gradually made it worse. I saw some studies that called this augmentation. I was on a very low dose, so I just quit taking it. It's only been a couple of weeks, but I'm doing better off the drug than on it."

Pramipexole for Periodic Limb Movement Disorder "I have been taking Mirapex for a number of years, and it has worked best for me. I take 1 tab during the day, 2 in the early evenings. I had taken a high dose of gabapentin/Neurontin, but some suppliers have a huge pill that was just too difficult for me to take."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "After 15 years of nightly Vicodin, and a false start with ropinirole (Requip; it gave me horrible hot flashes, and I'm a guy!), we tried pramipexole. That was my magic bullet! After two months on 0.25 milligrams nightly, my doctor asked me to up it to 0.365 mg, and that is where I have stayed. I take it an hour before bed only. It has been a miracle for me as far as RLS!"

Pramipexole for Restless Legs Syndrome "I have been taking Mirapex for a couple of weeks now. It doesn't seem to be helping that much just yet. I was diagnosed with restless legs syndrome about six years ago, which was a problem at nighttime. In October, I suddenly started having severe symptoms during the day, so I went to my doctor, and she put me on Mirapex 0.125 mg a day. I have noticed that I will suddenly feel very sleepy at times while I've just been completely alert, which I see might be from the medication. Hopefully, with time, it will relieve my symptoms for good!"

For Restless Legs Syndrome "This is in regard to my 83-year-old father-in-law (FIL) and his taking pramipexole. He was switched to this med from ropinirole due to the same issues I am about to discuss. The fine print of side effects is what he, and consequently my husband and I, are now dealing with. '...strong urges (such as increased gambling, increased sexual urges)...' Oh boy, this doesn't even come close. He does not see the problem, but when he is on either of these meds, he is so far past being a dirty old man. I am shocked he's not been arrested yet. He is also belligerent and cannot be reasoned with. I am in the process of trying to get him changed again to something else. So, just a warning: if anyone sees this in yourself or someone else taking this."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I took this drug for the first time last night for my RLS. It was the worst night I have had in a long time. I was hot and sweaty all night, I threw up twice and only got a couple hours of sleep. The headache I have is terrible. I will not be using this again."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "Started using pramipexole when weaning from zolpidem at the sleep clinic. Long-term insomnia complicated by shift work, school, age, and family history. Pramipexole at 0.125 mg/qd worked for about 9 months. Less effective if taken with food. Now, after a year, about 3 times a week, the first dose is insufficient, so I take a second, and that works. No side effects in gastrointestinal or balance/reaction time."

Pramipexole for Restless Legs Syndrome "I took Mirapex for a couple of months with my severe restless leg syndrome. It seemed to help, but I would wake up in the middle of the night and in the morning before work and have severe nausea and vomiting. I am now taking Requip, and it has been doing the same thing."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "Taking pramipexole for a few months, I began to black out without being aware of it. Falling asleep, especially at church or any time I was quiet. Compulsive gambling, shopping. Messed my heart up. I started having a very fast, irregular heartbeat. I have had six heart ablations because of this drug. It probably works great for some, but it is the most dangerous medication I have taken. Ruined my life. I can't walk at the mall shopping for more than two hours. Cannot bowl, play golf, not even exercise. I had to research it on the internet before I was sure what was causing all of these side effects, and there had been lawsuits earlier (too late for me). There was one in Canada at the time of my experience. I told the pharmacist about it, and she said she didn't believe it."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "Pramipexole works well, but the only negative I would mention is, in my experience, it takes 90-120 minutes to take effect. This can become VERY frustrating if I feel the RLS becoming active and I haven't taken my medication yet. It can be a long time before I feel any relief!"
