Phenazopyridine for Interstitial Cystitis "This is a godsend for episodes of intense bladder pain that come with my interstitial cystitis. It takes about an hour to work, but once it kicks in, it kicks butt. The downside is if I take this on an empty stomach, I throw up. Also, anything this pill comes into contact with becomes dark orange, and once it’s in my body, all my body fluids are dark orange too. Even tears and sweat have a color to them."

Phenazopyridine for Dysuria "I took the drug and followed Dr.'s instructions. First day, I began to have an uneasy stomach, and the following day, I vomited food and a pill. After four days of stopping taking the pill, I'm still having an uneasy stomach. I have also had leg cramps at night. This medicine is not for me."

For Interstitial Cystitis "Azo is the only thing that helps IC flares, or I get a UTI. Good news is it really does take the pain away after a little while. But for me, it's not without consequences. Those consequences or side effects include stomach ache and lots of vomiting if I don't stuff myself with food before taking it. And I don't mean a normal meal, I have to actually stuff my stomach with food. Sometimes I'll think I'm full enough, take the Azo, and half an hour later realize I was wrong. So, make sure you eat a lot of food before you take this medication."

Phenazopyridine for Dysuria "I have been taking this product for a day, and I feel nauseous all the time. I threw up twice because of it. I would not recommend it. I wasn’t feeling like this before I started taking Azo, and I know I threw up because of it because my vomit was orange, just like my pee."

For Dysuria "I took one of the 200 mg pills as prescribed to me for UTI symptoms. I took it with a meal and a glass of water as suggested. It did work relatively quickly to get rid of the urgency, burning, and pain. Unfortunately, it caused me to vomit up everything I ate and drank within 5 hours of taking it. Severe dizziness, nausea, and uncontrollable vomiting are not worth the benefits of the medication."

For Dysuria "I was given this medication after a procedure for kidney stones. It was given to me in recovery with no way to research it. It is in a family of drugs I am allergic to. It caused severe abdominal pain, dizziness, confusion, headaches, and vomiting. It contains Red 40, which is being studied for toxicity. Also, as of Sept 2022, this drug is not FDA-approved. Research this drug before taking it! It made me extremely ill."

"I thought I had a UTI. I felt the urgency to urinate. I remember having one tablet of phenazopyridine HCl 100 mg tab Ecip left, so I took it. In about 1/2 hour, I felt my stomach swell bad and then got this horrendous back pain in my lower left backside. I took these before and didn't remember this reaction. I thought I might ride it out until I could get to the urgent clinic the next day. The pain became so intense that I couldn't lay, sit, or stand. I realized something was wrong with me and I needed help. I phoned the local police department. While I had the dispatcher on the phone, I began to vomit profusely. It turned out I had a kidney stone. Did this medicine cause these reactions, or was this a coincidence? I wouldn't take it again."

For Interstitial Cystitis "My doctor prescribed me phenazopyridine 200 mg for IC. On my first dose, I was dizzy and just sleep; and in the second, I had nausea, vomiting, and chills."

For Interstitial Cystitis "This medication has helped me greatly in coping with interstitial cystitis (IC). There are different types of pain associated with IC, and this medication helps with one of the most debilitating, which is a hot poker feeling that starts in the urethra and continues straight up the center. Also, some of the urgency to urinate is relieved. Even with this medication, I am attached to a heating pad, but without it, there is nothing left of me other than the pain. As for side effects, I have to eat first or I become nauseous with occasional vomiting and headaches. Well worth it."
