Why do you not take phenazopyridine for more than two days?
Medically reviewed by Drugs.com. Last updated on Feb 2, 2021.
If you know what condition you have and need to take phenazopyridine for one week, why not take it for a week? I have also heard reference to an over-the-counter equivalent. Is there one?
Phenazopyridine is a pain reliever that affects the lower part of your urinary tract. It masks the pain and does not treat the pain. The cause of the pain needs to be determined so that anything sinister can be treated or ruled out. This is the reason why phenazopyridine should only be used short term.
AZO Urinary Pain Relief and Uricalm are over the counter products that contain phenazopyridine.
