Oxazepam for Anxiety "I would not use this medicine for more than a year. While it was effective, the side effects began to be more problematic than the medication was worth. Wish I would have stopped it much sooner than I did, and one must wean off, not go off cold turkey. My doctor apparently did not know this."

For Anxiety "I take 30 mg of oxazepam occasionally for chronic insomnia. The benefits are that it is effective, not too strong (can still function if needed in the night), and totally gone by morning. However, as it takes a while to kick in, I have to plan ahead when I'll use it and take the pills a good hour before going to bed."

For Anxiety "I have been on oxazepam 10 mgs for over 15 yrs now. It works. Only one problem. My memory is gone. At age 64 yrs old. I can now see the difference. My life is not the same anymore. I have no life. I don't recommend long-term use of this drug as it is habit forming. I have tried many times to come off. Not easy - most doctors today do not give out this drug. It is not common in the USA as they would rather give you another benzo. My advice is to stay away from all benzos, but if I had to have one (and I know this does not make sense), but this one works the best for anxiety, stomach problems, and high blood pressure. Better than Valium."

For Anxiety "I have severe depression and anxiety and tried every benzo. Oxazepam just works for me, it has a slow onset which allows you to relax. This medication also does wonders for me when I'm at work and feeling stressed! One before work and at lunchtime allows me a clear head and gives me a sense of confidence, like my anxiety is all of a sudden gone in an instant!"

Oxazepam for Anxiety "Effective when having a particularly bad day on antidepressants, but less effective when not on antidepressants. Find anxiety symptoms aren't overly settled in comparison to Lorazepam unless you take a couple. Plus, they take 45 minutes minimum to kick in, and during an attack, isn't helpful. When not taking antidepressants, got up to 45 mg on very bad days but was down to 1-2 tabs a month on antidepressants."

Oxazepam for Alcohol Withdrawal "I was prescribed 15 mg of Serax to take the edge off my anxiety while trying to stop drinking. I didn't have bad withdrawal (i.e., trembling, convulsions, etc.), but I needed something to take the edge off. Serax was great for that. I knew when I took a dose around 'happy hour' time that I couldn't drink because of the medication, so I simply moved on with my life. It made me sleepy, and I slept well and woke up with a great deal of energy. Then I read about the addictive aspect of Serax. My doctor said it was safe to use for 2-3 weeks, but I was feeling addicted after five days and stopped. Given the choice of alcohol or Serax addiction, I'd vote for Serax. My life was good using it."

For Anxiety "I am now 65 years old, and at the age of 16, I was prescribed Valium for anxiety. My doctor continued to increase the dosage and eventually put me on Serepax (oxazepam). I was addicted to both of these medications, and it took me at least 10 years to come off these, suffering huge withdrawals. When my daughter died in 2006 in a fire, I was offered tranquilizers, which I refused, knowing my addiction to them. I was later refused any compensation by the Melbourne Medical Board because I refused any medical help in the form of antidepressants. Be very careful, don't take any of these drugs because they might seem great at the time, but you will pay for it in the long run."

For Anxiety "I have taken this drug over a long period of time to help control my panic attacks caused by my agoraphobia. It worked when I started it, and it still works, although I should caution that increasing the dosage without your doctor's approval can cause increased tolerance and the need for more. Also, it can be taken to help one sleep, as others have noted. I stay on the recommended dosage each day and now lead a very normal life."

For Anxiety "I was given this to replace Xanax for panic attacks because Xanax is so addictive, apparently. Unfortunately for me, who only takes it on an as-needed basis, oxazepam does not have the same ability to quell panic attacks instantly once they have started. Instead, I have to take this in anticipation of an event happening, which I don't really like to do, because I'm never sure. In general, though, it does calm me down if I plan ahead before certain panic-inducing events (like plane trips), but doesn't help for unexpected panic attacks."

For Anxiety "Absolutely worse when you hit tolerance after 4 years! As with all benzos, not worth it. I see all the good reviews and think I feel sorry for these people when they don't address the underlying issues and pop a pill that is ohhh so fantastic until one day, bang! It just won't work. I was prescribed these and never abused them. At my worst, I was taking a massive dose just for 4 hrs sleep. Please think twice or do research. Unfortunately, not much comes up about oxazepam, but the withdrawals are like any other benzo and hell."

For Anxiety "Ten years of being put on literally dozens of medicines for anxiety and panic disorder, the past six years this medication has finally helped me the most out of all of them. It's a sigh of relief to just drive and do simple errands with no harsh side effects of other medicines. I agree with the tolerance some of you have mentioned, and the recent insurance changes trying to take away the only medicine that has helped, otherwise, this medication overall has helped me immensely."

For Alcohol Withdrawal "I was prescribed 30 mg oxazepam daily (as needed) for anxiety and insomnia a couple of weeks after I quit drinking alcohol. It worked wonders for me for both of those problems, no 'drug hangover' when I take it for sleep - it lets me sleep rather than makes me sleep, and slows my thoughts down enough when I am anxious or panicky so that I can function. I am also certain that this medication helped me to stick to my decision to become a non-drinker. Have been taking it for over a year, and have not felt the need for increased dosage. Only problem I have with oxazepam is the cost."

For Anxiety "I have been taking this medication, oxazepam, for the last month and a half. My dosage is half of a 15 mg tablet 3 times a day. I find it has had some unwanted side effects, like muscle twitching, confusion, dizziness (feeling like I'm on a boat even when I'm sitting or lying down), jumbled speech, memory loss, and I seem to wake up and can't get back to sleep. My honest advice would be to use this medication cautiously."

For Anxiety "Wonderful prevention of panic attacks. However, serious memory loss! My adult daughter says I always seem 'out of it' or confused. The med is doing what I need it for...preventing panic attacks. Therefore, overall, it's great, except for memory loss."

For Anxiety "I have drug-related issues for ~15 years. Dope, speed. My 'psychiatrist' diagnosed me with the word 'schizophrenia.' Antipsychotics are very dangerous, they increased my anxiety and stress many times over. Finally, after 15 years, 3 months, no drugs, I have found oxazepam. 5 mg. I read you can take up to 120 mg! At the moment, I think I need about 10 mg a day. I am doubting whether I have 'schizophrenia' at all. I am down to 1/2 minimum dose, tablet of dangerous Latuda. So-called 'treatment' with antipsychotics is criminal."

For Anxiety "It's a strange one for me. I am prescribed them for acute anxiety whenever the bouts come. The thing is, they work. The relief is beautiful, and it's nice to regain what feels like a normal perspective of things, to bring an end to the myriad of worried thoughts. But once it starts to wear off, the anxiety slowly returns, but more so, gets worse. On top of that, I can feel so hopeless for days after taking just one pill, which can turn into depression if I'm not careful. It's a pill that gives relief, but the adverse symptoms are not worth it. I maybe take them a couple of times a year at points where I'm otherwise unable to function at all (I don't like medication)."

For Alcohol Withdrawal "I wrote a comment and forgot to rate 10/10. I don't think anyone else here has commented on its use (under medical guidance) for acute opiate withdrawal from long-term opiate replacement therapy drugs such as methadone/suboxone. I'd already gotten my life back together due to the opiate replacement (methadone), but I just outgrew the methadone, as it was holding me back from further life successes. This drug made the last week of my titration (dropped 50mg in 5 weeks, of methadone) bearable. If you know methadone, you know dropping 50mg in 5 weeks is basically hell, but I was happy throughout 'cause I'd addressed the underlying issues of my addiction, thus I was ready. I used Serax for one week, on a specific taper, to alleviate the worst symptoms and debilitating anxiety rapid opiate withdrawal causes. It worked. Listen to your doctors and don't play with your dosing. I mean, misusing prescribed Oxy is how I'd gotten my heroin habit in the first place."

For Anxiety "Diagnosed with a rare chronic disease, which simply worsened my anxiety symptoms, as the thought that I can die at any moment (though statistics say otherwise) has taken over my mind, and I cannot function at times during the day. I was prescribed sertraline and oxazepam for as long as it took for the main drug to kick in. Been on this combo for just over a month. Supposedly the sertraline would work for the anxiety, so far I have not seen any meaningful improvement from it, so I still rely on the oxazepam, usually 10 mg in the morning, adding another 10 mg in the afternoon, if needed. Takes 30-45 minutes to kick in and gives you an average of 6-7 hours of clear mind, ability to concentrate, and a normal attitude (i.e., anxiety not detectable). Fully aware of the fact that I have to get off it at some point, but the sertraline has done nothing for me in the last 5 weeks, so far oxazepam is the only thing keeping me standing with some dignity. No side effects, really."

For Anxiety "I have been on this medication for over 3 years. I finally found a medicine that really takes my anxiety away when I have my attacks. It has greatly allowed me to be myself again. Much better than anything else I have ever tried. My doctor prescribed me this along with 1 mg of clonazepam, and I sleep very well considering my previous condition."

For Insomnia "Poor English, sorry: It's a good medicine for sleeping, but not the best one. Temazepam is better. Oxazepam will slow down the thinking when you try to fall asleep. Oxazepam is helpful for those who have developed a tolerance to benzos. It's less addictive than Ativan (lorazepam). I take 20 mg every evening at 10 p.m. When it will stop working, it will be the end of the benzos."

For Insomnia "I was very pleased with the Sandoz brand that I was receiving from the VA. Now the V.A. switched to some company that puts out the red capsules, and they are terrible. About 60% of the red capsules are underfilled, some have very little at all in them. I called my Congressman and the DEA about this problem, and I haven't heard back from them yet. Yet, Sandoz's capsules have had the correct amount in them. I guess the lowest bidder decided to make up the difference by withholding a large amount of the medicine to get back what they underbid the other Pharma companies. To the V.A., you are a sell-out to the USA Veterans and most likely the public also."

For Anxiety "I was put on this medication a couple of weeks ago. I take medicine for my OCD, and I also take Remeron to sleep. Lately, I haven't been able to control my anxiety/intrusive thoughts and was put on Oxazepam 15 mg one hour before bedtime. It is great - it makes me really sleepy and gives me the munchies - I literally eat everything I can think of 5 minutes before collapsing in my bed. I can see why people would want to abuse this drug. My only problem is that my concentration levels have gotten really bad after taking Oxazepam. I am working daily, and not many people know what I am struggling with (OCD and intrusive thoughts), so it is hard to maintain the 'normal looking me' at work. Hopefully, people will just think I am a bit tired or stressed out, and it will pass soon."

For Insomnia "I had chronic and acute migraine attacks for 30 years, 3-4 per week, and used a variety of analgesics. Consequently, my sleep was all over the place. The doctor put me on one oxazepam at night 10 years ago to help me sleep. I was unaware of problems with benzos until recently when I looked them up due to lots of nasty and weird physical issues that surfaced when analgesics stopped 5 months ago. My fault I didn't know of benzo side effects - the patient needs to check out thoroughly any drug you're prescribed, and I didn't. Finally, I found that my worst migraine trigger is yeast, so I gave that up and hardly have any migraines now, so no analgesics at all. I am starting a slow dry micro taper of benzo now, as I am sure with some non-drug strategies I can get my sleep pattern back. I'll be happy to get my health back too once I can get off the benzo."
