For Birth Control "My whole life, I’ve had normal periods, normal skin, etc., and four years ago, I began taking the generic Ortho Tri-Cyclen purely just to prevent pregnancy. After starting OTC, I experienced significant weight gain and swelling, acne on my face and scalp, and total loss of libido. My doctor switched me to Sharobel, and I was on it for about a year. The acne subsided, and I felt a little bit more like myself, but after about 3 months, my periods went haywire. Sometimes it would be more than two months between them, and other times they’d come back to back. I’ve also experienced significant hair loss and thinning. My gyno is at a loss for recommending alternatives. My PCP suggested I go back on OTC to regulate my periods. Three weeks ago, I switched back to Ortho Tri-Cyclen, and already I’ve had several huge pimples break out on my face, and my feet and ankles swelled up. My libido is totally gone, and I don’t know what else to try."

For Endometriosis "38 years old, started taking after Dr. said I most likely had endometriosis (always painful periods, then one day pain continued even while not on period). I also noticed I had signs of low progesterone and told him that as well (anxiety, horrible moods, losing hair, periods beginning almost immediately after ovulation). It took a while for my body to adjust, but within the 1st week, my pain was almost completely gone! I had spotting periodically for the 1st month or so, but physically I felt so much better I didn’t mind. My husband even commented on how much my mood has improved since taking this pill. I’m starting my 4th pack and my periods are so light, cramps barely there (I used to be in so much pain for a full week, it was exhausting just getting out of bed). I went 2 years in constant pain and anxiety, I really wish I was prescribed this sooner. My Dr. first prescribed a combo pill and it was awful for my mood, so I was hesitant to try, but I’m so thankful I did!!"

For Birth Control "I've had extreme hair loss. To the point of where I'm crying with this medicine, weight gain, and my face has broken out like it has never in my life. Over this and will never be taking again!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was prescribed Sharobel for abnormal bleeding and because I can’t take estrogen due to clotting problems. It started out rough - the cramping was severe and my periods were heavier. I had horrible breast tenderness. There are definitely pros and cons to taking this pill. I’ve been on it for a year and it hasn’t regulated my cycles. I sometimes have two a month, sometimes I’m very late, or sometimes I just have spotting. I’ve gotten some acne and minor hair loss. However, I used to have chronic UTIs and that stopped after starting this pill. My cycles are also now extremely light and here and there, no cramping and really no PMS. I’m staying on it."
