"Taken Bystolic 2.5 for a week so far. Cardiologist recommended due to “minimal side effects.” Will not be taking again. Was previously using Carvedilol 6.2, weaned off, but once off, BP went up and experienced palpitations. Bystolic has been giving heart flutters and palpitations and is very uncomfortable. Will not be using anymore going forward. Have been unable to get much sleep since using this."

"After only four days on 2.5 mg, I am experiencing interdose withdrawal. I am sensitive to medication, but after about 12 hours of taking a dose, I have the symptoms of having too much adrenaline - anxiety, muscle twitching, insomnia. It brings down adrenaline for 12 hours, and then you pay for that."

"I was having trouble with my previous blood pressure med. So my MD office put me on Bystolic to try and gave me a month's worth of samples. Thank goodness I didn't have to pay a copayment. It didn't bring down my blood pressure at all. I gained 8 lbs in 4 weeks from fluid retention. I'm tired all the time when I took it, and I have wheezes from being short of breath. And I needed to be taken off of work for 2-3 weeks because of the fluid retention in my legs. I would not recommend this drug to anyone. It gave me nothing but grief and side effects are scary, and they don't go away instantly, it takes a few weeks for them to leave my system. Please don't take this medicine."

"I took this drug Bystolic for less than one week. In that time, my blood pressure went up but not down. I had a strong tremor in my right arm and hand that never stopped. I had to get new eyeglasses as I couldn’t see well enough out of the ones I had, and every night I woke up confused and had no clue where I was. I stopped the medication, and it took another week to feel right again. Do not take Bystolic, I beg you. There are ample antihypertensives to choose from. I feel this should be taken off the market or have a black box warning."

"25 years old, sensitive to most medicines, and this was another one on the blacklist. Headaches occasionally, insomnia, loss of sexual desire, heart palpitations, depression, dizzy when standing up or squatting down, tired when sitting down, and short-term memory was terrible."

"Bystolic added to Losartan to lower my blood pressure. It did lower BP, but the side effects of weakness, dizzy spells, blurry vision, and upset stomach are terrible. I cannot tolerate this drug or perhaps the combination."

"I was told by my doctor Bystolic was the Cadillac of BP meds. He handed me 6 months' worth of samples, 5mg, and sent me on my way. This was my first experience taking BP meds. Female in her early 50s with stubborn BP that is up, down, up, down, up, up, up at the doctor's office. It had to be within the first week of taking this 'top-of-the-line' med that I started having awful vivid nightmares. Also, the worst part was the deep, deep muscle pain that came in waves. At first, I thought I was just sitting weird all the time. It woke me up in pain in the middle of the night too. Made it through until my refill at 6 months. I asked to be removed from this product, I honestly could not take it anymore. The muscle pain and nightmares were awful. As soon as I got off this med, I was 95 percent better. No nightmares, and muscle pain is rare. This was 4 years ago, and the options out there are very limited to side effects. This is nuts. All this to say Bystolic was a huge problem for me."

"59-year-old woman had been very active and fit. An adverse reaction to a cold medication sent my blood pressure sky-high, and my doc put me on Bystolic 5mg, which worked well for me for 3 months until I started having awful side effects such as dizziness, extreme fatigue, numbness, and cold extremities, etc. It was debilitating. Getting off Bystolic was awful. My heart rate was through the roof, I had major tremors, panic attacks, and very high BP spikes for days. I had very intolerable side effects to other BP meds as well. I am 2 months off Bystolic now, and 9 days off all BP meds. Blood pressure occasionally spikes, but generally not bad and coming down gradually. I'm able to exercise a bit again, and that is helping my blood pressure. But I still have slight tremors most days, still lightheaded, and definitely more anxious than I ever was before I started any medication. I feel like I was poisoned, and recovery is very slow."

"This medicine was a nightmare. I was prescribed 10 mg but only took 5 mg. Side effects: horrible insomnia, neck stiffness on my right side, complete loss of appetite, fatigue, weight loss. I finally asked my doctor to change meds... this medication was driving me insane. I am now on Valsartan... still feel tired but at least I can sleep. Bystolic was HORRIBLE!!!"

"I am going crazy on this drug. I have been on several BP meds and none worked. Put me on Bystolic 10mg, numbers were not good. Felt like I was going to die most days. Severe ear pressure, ringing, and sensitivity. Insomnia, numb hands and feet, headaches constantly, severe fatigue, anxiety, shaking, stopped doing everything, stopped meds on my own. Will I ever feel better? Feel like I'm gonna die!"

"I monitor my BP daily. Was anywhere from 140's over 80's with some spiking highest 176 over 86. Could hear it pulsing in ears. Thought was going to have heart attack or stroke. Went to Dr. and started me on Bystolic 2.5mg. Gave bunch samples to take. Took for 3 wks, brought me occasionally to 130's over 70's but still having spikes. Went back to Dr., upped dose to 5mg. Am sitting here with BP 171 over 82. Have resorted to taking additional 2.5mg to try and get BP down. Since started taking, hands and feet are cold. Have numbness sometimes. Walk 2 mile daily and exercise, now fight fatigue. Am out on couch by 7 pm. Sometimes feel like going to pass out. Feel anxious and never had anxiety. Take no other medications have been relatively healthy all my 63 yrs. with exception of extra lbs which I've lost 20 and am working on getting fit. This drug is not working for me! Scares me more, now that I have read the reviews. See Dr in 3 days, plan on telling her to give me something else."

"First dose in 16 minutes, my body was completely numb. After the first dose, I took it only right before bed. Within two years, I hated everything I used to love. I distanced myself from everyone, and I truly believe it altered my way of thinking. Bad news drug FDA! Pull this Bystolic!"

"I've been on Atenolol/Chlorthalidone 100/25 for 15 years, and my controlled BP is an average of 95-105/65-70. My controlled heart rate/pulse has been in the mid-high 60s, and I feel great! I asked my doctor to let me try Bystolic 5 mg for the mere reason of possible cause of med-induced ED. It hardly does anything for me. BP is now in the 150s+/110s+, and HR is 130+-not good. Taking a second 5 mg only lowers the BP by 3-8/2-20 but does nothing for the HR. I feel absolutely horrible on Bystolic-sick stomach, raging headache beyond belief, along with joint/muscular pain. Give me the old tried-and-true Atenolol/Chlorthalidone 100/25, and I'll deal with the 'possible ED effects' otherwise!"

"After trying a number of antihypertensives, all of which made me sick, including lisinopril, Norvasc, valsartan, irbesartan, and others (hyponatremia, anemia, insomnia, fatigue, depression), the last one they gave me was Bystolic 10 mg. Felt bad, cold hands and feet, tingling feet, fatigue, insomnia, etc., so cut pills in half. On 5 mg, tingling went away, but a blood test found low sodium and anemia again, so I stopped completely. Now BP is higher than ever, and after 3 months, my feet still feel cold, even on a hot day. Referred to a specialist. Fingers crossed."

"I’ve been on Bystolic 5 mg since March 2018 when I started to feel my heart flutter a couple of times a week. Besides the Bystolic, I’ve been on lisinopril 40 mg, pravastatin 20 mg, and 80 mg low-dose aspirin for about 5 years. I’ve noticed what feels like dizziness, lightheadedness, and disorientation, especially when I’m driving. And it always seems to be the right side of my head/face. Today I had really bad episode(s) going to work and driving home. I had to pull over to the side of the road this morning until it passed, but then it came back so quickly I couldn’t find a place to pull over, so I ended up driving the rest of the way to work verbalizing, 'you're okay, you're okay,' just to focus on something besides that feeling. The same thing happened on my way home. I’m terrified that I’m going to pass out or drive off the road and kill someone or myself. This med has also caused me to gain weight, lose focus and memory, diminished sex drive, and can’t fall asleep."

"Put on Bystolic for HBP. Did not help at all. Nauseated, dizzy, pressure in neck and head, upset stomach, heart flutters. Had to stay in bed for 3 days. Thought I was going to have a heart attack or stroke. Still trying to get it out of my system after 4 days. Slightly better but still nauseated and heart still flutters."

"Been on 2.5 mg Bystolic daily for 2 weeks now. Half in the morning, half at night. At first, the only side effects I had were blurred vision and lightheadedness after an hour of taking the dose. After 2 weeks, I have many side effects: dizziness, tingling wrists and feet, lightheadedness, and feel some chest discomfort. Also, I have no energy to walk or hike. Did I mention the lack of sleep at night? Terrible."

"I took Bystolic 5mg for the first time in the morning and by late afternoon I all of a sudden felt flushed, really cold, and started shaking badly. My wife took me to the ER and about 45 minutes later, it subsided. ER Dr. could not say the Bystolic caused it but recommended not taking it again. That was last August, and I have not been the same since. I reported my experience to the FDA online for what it’s worth. It could have been an anxiety or panic attack, which I never had before. I got my BP down with diet, exercise, lowering stress, and working with a new Dr. now. But if I do need to take medicine in the future, I have no idea which one is the safest. But trying one and going to the ER is not going to happen to me again. As a society, we need to treat the cause of high BP and other health issues, not the symptoms."

"I had the side effects of extreme fatigue and upset stomach to one who has never suffered either. Stuff knocks me out like a sleeping pill. Took Atenolol for two decades with energy to spare and normal eating. Now my stomach turns audibly every day on this. Lost 15 lbs (that I needed) in 60 days on this. Sleep 12+ odd hours a day where I've gone on consistent 7 hours my entire life before Bystolic. Loathe it."

"Took Bystolic 5 mg for a year. Episodes short of breath while exercising. Progressively tired with no energy. A general feeling of unwellness. To top it off, each month, it controlled my BP less and less. And I gained 30 lbs. Never had any of these issues before! Switched to Atenolol 25 mg. Still tired, but the feeling of unwellness is gone. No more breathing issues while exercising. BP is controlled well. However, my hair is starting to thin (never had hair issues before). My plan is to stay on Atenolol for now, force myself to start exercising again, tired or not, lose the weight, and start natural supplements to lower BP. Hopefully, once I lose weight and exercise more, I can get off the nightmare BP meds. I want my life back again. :("

"This drug was a nightmare in real life. The first day I took it, I began to have severe chills but was diaphoretic, the worst chest pain I ever had, my blood pressure went sky-high, 204/110 range, etc. I did not take it very long. In the subsequent time since I stopped, I am still experiencing some breakthrough problems that I hope go away."

"Was put on Bystolic for high blood pressure induced by stress. This is a horrible medication. I was only on 12.5 mg once a day, and side effects were intolerable. Extreme flushing and feeling of anxiety...stomach pain. My blood pressure actually spiked after taking this medication. Also caused bad insomnia. I was in bed awake until 4 a.m. for 3 nights in a row when I finally decided to go to my doctor and got switched to another medication. Seems doctors are always trying to push the new and latest version of drugs, just to report back to the drug companies. Will never take it again."

"I am a former user of this drug Bystolic, I was on it for years. I had not noticed right away, but this drug deprived me of my sex drive. I was in my forties when it was first prescribed to me by my personal doctor. I just thought it was an age thing and that my sex drive was decreased because of that. Well, fast forward to 2022. I had been on a diet to lose some weight, I lost around 30 lbs and had started exercising more. I am now in my upper 50s. I had gone to see my doctor for an annual medical check and complained to her about the cost of the drug and if I could switch to another medication. With that being said, with my weight loss and exercise, she totally took me off of the medication. A few days later, I started noticing I would wake in the morning with a semi-hard penis, and my urine stream was more potent. As the days went by, each day my penis was erect each morning, and my sex drive was alive and well. I have had more sex since I have been off of this medication."
