For Heart Failure "3 years and counting. All doctors, including heart specialists at Tampa Heart Institute, said, 'Don't know why I'm alive.' Have to attribute it to medication and 34 other medications that I take throughout the day, every day."

For Heart Failure "Primacor/Milrinone was effective in reducing my symptoms of CHF. A malfunction of the personal infusion pump caused a spontaneous discontinuation of therapy. This malfunction was not noticed until 72 hours after therapy had stopped. The initial symptom of withdrawal was muscular soreness of back/posturing muscles. This was noticed about 30 hours after the infusion had stopped. Muscle soreness increased for the next 40 hours until posturing muscles began to cramp. At this point, a survey of CHF treatments discovered the infusion failure and therapy was restored. The withdrawal symptom did not immediately improve. It progressed to where it interfered with my ability to raise myself from bed. By 24 hours of restored therapy, muscle soreness and cramping were gradually improving. 36 hours after restoration of therapy, I was still experiencing significant, but not immobilizing, pain. I was able to dress, undress, and use a toilet the entire time."

For Heart Failure "* Notable plusses of milrinone: - Drop in hypertension (blood pressure) - A marked increase in physical endurance without exhausting easily. - A marked increase in lung function and capacity. Noted at sleep time and during more physically taxing activities. - A marked improvement in intimacy/ED complications even while still taking the oral meds that instigate it. - Overall mental clarity feels improved. * Notable downsides of milrinone: - The very short active half-life of milrinone requires constant intravenous dosing. It is not available as an orally ingested dose. - Cost. This will vary by insurance. My current insurance covers 80% of my milrinone treatment. - New routines: Must change the 190ml medicine pouch and put a new battery in the portable pump every single day at the approximate same time. I also must compensate for a home visit nurse to change the PICC dressing every 7 days.. forever.. (or until a transplant is available). - PICC line area: don't get it wet, let it get dirty, or infected."
