For Bacterial Infection "I had a vaginal infection and was prescribed Flagyl to cure it. I hated the immediate awful taste in my mouth, and it dissolved immediately upon hitting my tongue. I only experienced the awful taste and some slight stomach upset as side effects. The infection began to clear up after 3 days of a 7-day prescription. I recommend it, and drink something fruity with it. Also, DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL AT ALL while on this medication OR FOR 3 DAYS AFTER YOU STOP TAKING IT. You WILL have severe vomiting, heaving, and dizziness."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I had a duodenal switch (a major weight loss surgery combining the vertical sleeve with rearranging one's intestines to minimize fat absorption) 9 years ago. Since then, I've had problems with gas and a stomach ulcer, both caused by H. pylori. I've taken Flagyl twice. I am now on Day 5 of this round, and I don't experience most of the side effects I see described. (250 mg 3X per day) While the pill doesn't 'taste' great, there are other meds that also don't, and I find this no more severe than those. I don't have a lingering bad taste. I've had no diarrhea and have had more regular bowel movements. I've had almost no gas. My pain is gone. I don't feel sick. I am grateful for this drug!"

For Diverticulitis "A little early to give a thorough report on Flagyl for diverticulitis. But I have to admit it has helped so far. I have a light case of diverticulitis. Saturday night at midnight, I drove myself to the ER. I was in extreme pain from a hole in my colon. It is small, so it is only leaking gas into my abdomen. I was on Flagyl IV from Sunday a.m. till Wednesday a.m. When I ate even Jell-O, the gas pains would come back. Twenty-four hours after taking the 2x a day 500 mg, the gas pain was gone while/after eating. No bad taste. No elevated BP. If this keeps me from needing surgery, I would take it for months. I am on 2x a day for 7 days. Drugs work differently on people. So far, this is a miracle drug for me. On another good note, I have been a heavy drinker for years. You can’t drink alcohol while taking it. Flagyl could have possibly saved my life in two aspects."

For Giardiasis "I took Flagyl and Cipro for giardia and salmonella diagnosis. Both taken for one week. The Flagyl has a terrible taste, and you have to drink something besides water while you are taking it because everything tastes metallic. It works to eradicate the infection, but I was very happy when the seven days of treatment were over. I also experienced a lack of appetite, however, you must eat something when you take Flagyl, or it will upset your stomach. Other side effects experienced: bloating, burping, hiccups, terrible taste in my mouth all the time, lack of energy. But the need for the medication outweighs the side effects, and it took care of the infection."

For Diverticulitis "Was hospitalized with my first case of diverticulitis in March of this year and was given Flagyl 3x daily for 3-4 weeks. Vomited violently in the hospital within 10 minutes after taking it each time until they started giving me something to coat my stomach a little beforehand. The entire time I had to take it, I felt like my stomach was being eaten from the inside. My taste buds changed totally while I was on it, and nothing tasted normal. I agree, Flagyl is the worst medicine ever! I will suffer the pain from diverticulitis before taking it again!"

For Bacterial Infection "Will never take this medicine, Flagyl, again. The first day, I started with a headache. Then came the lack of appetite and nausea, which caused me to lose 3 pounds. Next was feeling tingly in my hands and full-out panic, anxiety, and depression. I called my doctor, begging to get off of this medication. Thankfully, I just took my last dose. I will never take this again."

For Diverticulitis "I went to the ER with acute diverticulitis and was prescribed Metronidazole along with Cipro and pain pills. I was administered a couple of pain shots and thought I could go home and take these meds and get better. Three days later, I was back in the ER and let them admit me this time. The terrible headaches, horrific taste in my mouth, nausea, and vomiting were about more than I could bear. I have had sleeve surgery, and so my stomach is small, but this gave me such bad heartburn and indigestion, I could not imagine a medicine making a person this sick. I also had diarrhea with every bathroom trip and very dark urine. I couldn't even stand the taste of water, or the food I ate tasted horrible, along with a lack of appetite, lethargy, and lightheadedness. I finished my prescription of ten days, but I hope I never have to take this horrible drug again. One good thing about it is my diverticulitis pain is gone, and I pray it will never return."

For Dental Abscess "Caught a bacterial infection from daughter visiting from Japan August 2016. Could not get well. Unknowingly had a dental abscess that made me even more ill. Did some research and found Flagyl with Augmentin had helped others. Got dental problems addressed and took 21 days of Flagyl 500 mg x 2 daily with Augmentin 875 mg x 2 daily. Got well. Had to have more invasive dental work and am currently taking a 21-day course of Flagyl 1000 mg x 2 daily with 875 mg Augmentin x 2 daily to head off infection recurring. If you have been ill and given up hope, try this combo. Yep, it's a lot of antibiotics but I was quite sick and it helped me. I was infection-free at the time of last dental work but taking this as a preventive course."

For Bacterial Infection "Was prescribed Flagyl for diverticulitis. All I can say is that I had to stop this medication after 6 days. My side effects included: numbness and tingling of my hands, dark urine, high anxiety, headaches, diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, and difficulty sleeping. My dosage was 2x250 mg tabs three times a day. I am in my 60s, and without a doubt, this is the medication that has given me the most side effects."

For Bacterial Infection "Prescribed this medicine for an infection I got after getting an IUD inserted. 500 mg metronidazole twice a day. Took them at 8 am day one. No issues day two. Up at 4 am, had symptoms of bloating, stomach gurgling, cramps, explosive diarrhea, extremely liquid stool, pain. All subsided by 11 am next day. Day three. Up at 1 am. Bloating, stomach gurgling, doubled from the night before. I had cramps, diarrhea, but not as bad as the night before, and I swore that I was done with this medicine. Drank a probiotic yogurt, and it’s been a while, 20 minutes with no gurgling... nope, I was wrong. Here we go again..."

For Diverticulitis "WOW, Cipro and Flagyl drain your entire body. I have fought with diverticulitis off and on since age 37, and I am now age 45. I have gone 2 years since my last bout with diverticulitis. At first, I hated the drugs and quit after 2-3 days - only for the pain to come back within a month. So I quickly learned to stay the course with the drugs, then I learned to monitor my diet better because my eating habits were the culprit. When I was 43, I had a flare-up from diverticulitis. Since I was used to the symptoms, I drank a lot of water and tried to get by the pain, not a good idea. Man, that diverticulitis spread through my urinary tract, then to my liver... all because I didn’t want to take the medication... probably the worst episode."

For Trichomoniasis "I first got prescribed 4 Flagyl 500 mg pills to take at once for trichomoniasis. It took away the burning and itching, and I seen a decrease in discharge. However, I still have burning when peeing. I now got prescribed a second dose of Flagyl, but this time it’s a 7-day dosage of 500 mg pills twice a day. I have taken 2 days of this new dosage, and my discharge is even better, but still burning when urinating. I am hoping this medicine cures the trichomoniasis."

For Bacterial Infection "Everyone's body will react differently to meds, genetics. Just because I had a bad experience doesn't mean you will. Took with a full stomach of bland food, 16 oz water, and took a daily probiotic. My experience with this medication was horrible. I was unbearably anxious, had a rapid heartbeat, intense pelvic pressure, bad stomach cramping, nonstop nausea, vomiting, and explosive diarrhea. This was my second time with this medication, with the same bad reaction. I had to discontinue both times. It took 3 days to start feeling better, 5 to 7 until normal. I'll never take this medication again. I'm sure it's good for others, but not me. I had cancer, so I've taken a lot of medications. Never had to stop another medication from side effects before, but I was scared to the point of going to the ER. Never again."

For Bacterial Infection "Not for me... I was given a 5-day course, 1 tablet twice a day. I took the first one, and within 10 minutes, felt my chest was getting tight, just tried to see it through. 2 hours later, I have the paramedics out because I can't breathe, wheezing, chest tight, dry mouth, uncontrollable sickness, I couldn't move, I was so weak, high heart rate. Was horrid! Needless to say, I didn't take another and have now developed an anxiety about taking new medications. Shame really, as the infection itself did feel better the next morning after all this had happened."

For Dental Abscess "For a few years, I have had this horrid smell coming from under my crown. I have had dental care from my dentist, but the smell would persist. My dentist said he didn't notice an abscess, but I told him that fluid was leaking from under the crown as well. I tried amoxicillin for 14 days (two separate runs), and it calmed the smell down some, but once I stopped the med, the smell came back full force. I am about to finish Flagyl, and I don't notice the smell at all. This is great, tastes like crap, but it works."

For Dental Abscess "I had a tooth abscess, and my whole face swelled, it was scary. I was prescribed Augmentin with Flagyl and Serodase for a week. I woke up the next day, the swelling increased. Then, within two days, pain decreased, swelling decreased, and by the fifth day, everything was gone."

For Bacterial Infection "I'm only on day 3 of meds, dose is 2 x a day for the week. Must say I see an improvement already! I've had BV for months and no prescription helped. I've tried things for my flora, pH, baths, alkaline water, vitamin C, you name it. 3 days in, and I'm already happier. No odor, no discharge, finally!!! Relief from this awful embarrassment. Yes, the pill can taste bad, however, I take a sip of milk BEFORE and after taking the dose. Hadn't the 1st time, and it tastes awful, yes, but the milk coats your throat nicely, and I haven't tasted it since doing that. As for side effects, I definitely have a suppressed appetite, but I'm not complaining. The benefits of taking the Flagyl much outweigh any negative I can see."

For Bacterial Infection "Just finished my 7th day of Flagyl. This is my second time taking it, and this time was definitely easier. I usually take the pill with a fizzy drink, seems like I swallow it easier that way. Also, I noticed the main side effect I’m having this time is vaginal itch. I’m pretty sure that’s from the medicine because I didn’t feel itchy before I started Flagyl. Doesn’t seem like a yeast infection, though, because I don’t see any discharge. My vagina definitely feels fresh, though, and this medicine definitely works towards BV. I hate that I suffer from BV, but I’m happy there’s at least something that helps."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "I am currently on day 5 of a 14-day course of Flagyl for C. diff colitis. It has helped with the diarrhea, and I am already feeling better. So far, I haven’t noticed many side effects. Maybe a little more anxious at times. The worst part was the taste and swallowing the pill before it started dissolving. A coating of peanut butter solved that problem. Makes it super easy to swallow. Now let’s just hope it makes the C. diff go away."

For Diverticulitis "I was told not to drink alcohol with Flagyl, of course, but I also found I cannot use Purell (ethanol-based) or isopropyl rubbing alcohol with it. These led to terrible stomach pain and headache. One pharmacist told me this couldn't happen, not enough alcohol would get in, but another said yes, it happens, and some people even have a reaction to alcohol in the slight fumes you get while pumping gasoline that includes alcohol. When I avoid Purell and isopropyl, I don't get those severe stomach pains."

For Bacterial Infection "I just finished a 10-day treatment of 500 mg every 12 hours. I am so glad it is over. I experienced stomach aches, a metallic taste in my mouth, which I am still experiencing, as well as tingling/numbness in my tongue. I am also experiencing itchy and a burning sensation in the vaginal area, it is uncomfortable. I hope it goes away soon. The only good thing about all this is that I don't have that fishy smell anymore."

For Diverticulitis "I was prescribed this medicine for my diverticulitis, and every time I took this pill, I was experiencing bad cramping. So, I went to the emergency room, and the doctor there told me to stop that medication because it causes constipation. So, I'm just taking the other medicine, and thus far no cramping, just a bit of a headache, but that's better than getting abdominal pains."
