Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I'm on day 6 of a 7-day treatment, and I'm throwing in the towel. I've never had such terrible side effects: severe dizziness, insomnia, dehydration, irritated bladder, racing heart, anxiety, and a constant bad taste in my mouth. I barely had any BV symptoms to begin with, so the meds have felt like unnecessary torture. Never again."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "Seems effective. Second use with diverticulitis. Both times combined with Cipro. Had some side effects but not sure which medication they came from. Plus the diverticulitis itself causes gas, bloating, diarrhea, headache, nausea so how do you know what was meds and what was the illness? I experienced urine discoloration-slight rusty tone. I can say that the taste of the Flagyl pill is horrible. Also, after starting the meds I became oversensitive to smells and everything I ate or drank, even water, tasted disgusting. (Not so bad as I'm not supposed to be eating foods). I found that if I swallow the Flagyl with a sip of a smoothie (from supermarket) it slips down easy with no sticking and no bad taste."

For Dental Abscess "I've been on this medication alongside amoxicillin, and the taste in my mouth just won't go away! The pain has gone, and the ulcers surrounding my abscess have also gone! Just the disgusting taste-metallic and gross, to be honest! I'm feeling sick ALL the time! Does anyone else suffer with this?"

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed the 500 mg 2 times a day for 7 days. The pill didn’t even taste that bad, lol. The only side effect I had was dark urine and diarrhea, and that was on days 3 and 4. I’m approaching my 7th day with my last pill. So far, it’s been good. I do want to warn you that you might have discharge. It’s not always a yeast infection, it’s the medicine pushing the infection out."

For Diverticulitis "I did a Google search for being on Cipro and Flagyl for diverticulitis for a few days because I was thinking there has to be a reason why these meds make me feel so bad, and there has to be someone else who has shared this same horrible experience! And then I read all of your reviews, and as awful as these meds are, they do actually help to make the pain go away. It's nice to know I'm not suffering alone! :)"

For Diverticulitis "I was recently prescribed both Metronidazole and Cipro for diverticulitis. This is the second time I've had an issue with diverticulitis since being diagnosed approximately 2 years ago. I have learned a few things this time around that have reduced the negative side effects. I no longer take these medications at the same time, they are spaced an hour or two apart, and both are taken with a slice of toast-nothing more. If I take this medication after a meal, it causes problems. This has greatly reduced (eliminated) the stomach pains and nausea that I experienced before. Limit food intake while having a diverticulitis attack for the first couple of days, replace it with water. You need to flush out the infection, and there will be diarrhea."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "Had my first flare with diverticulitis 4 months ago, ended up in the emergency room. Prescribed Bactrim and Flagyl and four days bed rest. Pain subsided after 2 days on the meds, but felt pretty crummy for the next week, and had to deal with loss of taste and bad taste in my mouth. Didn't attribute feeling so yucky with the meds. Had a second milder diverticulitis flare up four days ago. Went to the doc 2 days ago and I'm back on Bactrim and Flagyl. Came back to work today and I am SO NAUSEOUS! The bad taste in my mouth has returned, and I really don't feel well at all. I really DO NOT want to end up where I was last Jan when I went to the emergency room - so I'm still taking the Flagyl. Doc gave me Zofran for the nausea, it helps some."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I sympathize with those who had to prolong their treatment in the course of 5 days. I, on the other hand, and thankfully at that, was prescribed only a single dose of 5 tablets of Metronidazole. Quick and easy. Make sure you eat before you take it, though, and I find if you hydrate yourself, you're less likely to feel nauseous. I've had recurrent bacterial vaginitis, so I know what I'm talking about."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "I have taken this for diverticulitis and BV. It works. I had bleeding and severe, almost septic diverticulitis, I was in the hospital for 5 days, and this cured it. It gets rid of BV too, just make sure to take Rephresh Pro-B pill immediately after finishing the course of Flagyl and continue for a few months if you want to keep your vagina healthy. Side effects of Flagyl are diarrhea and slight nausea, but they are bearable, just take it in the middle of a meal. If you have horrible effects from it, you are having an allergic reaction, not side effects. I know because my mom is allergic to Flagyl. If taking it for diverticulitis, take a high-grade probiotic for 2 months after finishing the course of antibiotics to replenish good bacteria in the gut."

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed the one-time dose of four (4) 500mg tablets. Within hours, I noticed the horrible odor & discharge were totally gone!! I had been skeptical it would work well with just one dose but it's truly AMAZING!! I didn't have any of the (I personally think exaggerated) side effects some of these other reviews listed. I even took it on a completely empty stomach at the end of the day. No problems with the taste either as I take them differently than most people. I put water in my mouth, hold the water in my mouth without swallowing, tilt my head back (still not swallowing), drop the pills to the back of my throat & then swallow. I take many pills each day for various reasons & I've never tasted ANY pills that way."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I'm 14 weeks pregnant and was prescribed this medication, metronidazole 500 mg, 2 times a day. I also want to mention I have anxiety and panic attacks and I'm scared to take anything, especially after reading the reviews. Well, I have to say I'm glad I went ahead and took my meds as described and had zero side effects at all. It did take like 3 days to finally get relief, but I'm glad because I was hurting bad and literally had zero side effects at all. So whoever sees this, take the meds, don't read a lot. These comments scared me, but nothing at all happened, and I finally feel amazing."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I want to share my experience to calm some of you women down that are scared to take this medicine. Let's start by saying I have a medication phobia. I'm always assuming the worst is going to happen when I start a new medication. I'm the biggest hypochondriac. I'm not even exaggerating when I say this.... I stared at this medication for 3 months before I finally took it because of the bad reviews I read. They kept making me procrastinate on taking it. My doctor prescribed me 500 mg of metronidazole twice daily for seven days. I finally got the nerve to take it. The first day I had a TINY bit of nausea, and after that, no side effects at all! By day three, my symptoms were gone! So I'm now on day four, and everything is still good with no side effects."

For Dental Abscess "Wish I had read up on this medication before taking it. Was prescribed 15 metronidazole tablets for a dental abscess and have taken 5. I have had horrendous side effects, totally unexpected as I have taken many courses of antibiotics over the years. Nausea ++, bad headaches, muscle weakness all over, feeling overwhelmed and low confused mood... after 5 tablets! Feel like I’ve been poisoned or something. Beware is all I can say."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was suffering symptoms of BV for more than 6 months. It was making me so self-conscious. I started avoiding sex and constantly had to wear panty liners because of the discharge. I finally went to the GP about it two days ago and he prescribed me metronidazole. So far, the discharge seems to have stopped, and it's the first day in what feels like forever I have been able to not wear a pantyliner. The odor seems to have gone already as well. It's not until this has started to clear up that I have realized how much it was dragging me down!"

For Diverticulitis "This is my second flare-up with diverticulitis since March of 2020. My own fault due to my bad choice in foods. This combination of Flagyl and Cipro makes my stomach ache, urine is dark and foul-smelling, my stomach pulses, headache is mild, joints hurt, nausea, dizzy the first 3 days. It is very stressful on your body. My diverticulitis is better, but the side effects of the treatments take a toll on your body. I find too, if I stick to taking a good probiotic with slippery elm and drink daily a full glass with a teaspoon of psyllium husk mixed in, I do not have any issues. But if I backside and slack off performing this daily regimen, then I flare up. Pizza, especially pepperoni, is a BIG NO-NO."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "I was prescribed Flagyl and Cipro Sunday night when I went to the ER for severe abdominal pain. A CT scan revealed acute colitis. Day 3 of antibiotics and now feeling nauseous, light-headed, no appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Pain gone but will suffer through if it clears up those pesky parasites. Doc said could be short or long term. I vote for short. The docs should warn of possible side effects to prepare a person."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "This med was prescribed along with Cipro for diverticulitis. The side effects were strong. I felt dizzy, my balance was off when walking, drowsiness, general fuzzy-headed feeling. When my pain subsided after 3 days, I stopped taking it but continued the Cipro. I was taking 500mg 3 times a day of the Flagyl. Doc wants me to continue taking at least 1 per day, but can't drive or function so not going to continue."

For Dental Abscess "After visiting the dentist, discovered that I had an infection on the top right molar. This pain is indescribable. Had days of no sleep and took too many painkillers. Yes, these didn't do anything, paracetamol and Nurofen are useless for that type of pain! Got prescribed 9 metronidazole tablets to be taken 3 a day with a gap of 8 hours in between each. It is to be aware that it doesn't work straight away, so don't expect that. It had been 18 hours for my pain to ease, but still got a migraine. I feel sorry for anyone with this pain as it has reduced me to nearly tears and a whole new level of upset that I hadn't experienced before. Great rating for a drug that works miracles, pity you have to go to a dentist to be prescribed it."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Okay, so before I took this, I read all the reviews on here. I was frightened. So I began a 7-day process, 2 pills a day. The odor went away the 2nd day. I guess it started smelling normal. I was very pleased it didn't have that fishy smell anymore. However, I still discharged, and on the last day, I discharged so much! The doctor and nurse said it's just cleaning everything out. Overall, I was pleased. The effects I did have were dizziness, headaches, abdominal pain, and somewhat nauseous. What was weird was that one day my mouth tasted like what it smelled like. It smelled and tasted in my mouth like a little bit of bleach. Oh, and the pills aren't that bad tasting when you get used to it."

For Trichomoniasis "Update: Flagyl is rough to take, but it does the job for trich. Previously, I would never take Flagyl because of side effects, but I had to tough it out because it's one of the few used to treat it and options were minimal. One dose option did not cure me on two separate occasions. The 2-500 mg twice a day for 7 days did the trick. Lol. Don't miss a dose and finish all pills WITH FOOD to help with side effects. It will work if taken correctly, and don't read the bad reviews."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I want to share my story because when I was prescribed this, after seeing all the reviews, I was very scared. I'm here to tell you that there is a really good chance that you will not have any of those effects if you take it like you are supposed to. First, some people advised taking it with orange juice, which I researched and is a no-no. Also, try to not eat too much fiber during the time you are taking antibiotics, I searched, and fiber takes away some of the potency. Take it with plain water and eat some lettuce leaves with it. I got a bad aftertaste, which was not that bad, only once when I laid down on my right side at night. If you lay on the left side, you should have no problem. I am H. pylori-free, and I plan on staying that way. I changed my whole diet, lost 10 lbs, and feel great."

For Diverticulitis "The only way to take this medication is with applesauce. I put one 500mg pill on a tablespoon of applesauce, swallow it, and immediately follow with additional applesauce. There is no aftertaste of the pill, and the applesauce kills the smell as well. This is the only way I can take it. Try it, it really works."

Metronidazole for Dental Abscess "This was the first time I received Metronidazole for a tooth infection, usually they prescribe Keflex (cephalexin) or Amoxicillin. I would say that the Metronidazole worked quicker at easing the pain and it wasn't a capsule so I had an easier time swallowing it. However, I have been suffering serious nausea followed by diarrhea since I began taking it. Then last night, without thinking about the interaction, I had a few drinks and spent the night vomiting and very ill with nausea, dry heaves, etc. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL WITH THIS MEDICINE and always read your labels and accompanying info. I usually do, but I've never had any kind of reaction to an antibiotic so I got lazy, I suppose, because it was clearly stated on the bottle."
