For Bacterial Infection "Given metronidazole for a tooth infection, wish I’d never gone to the dentist. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sleeping endlessly, shivering even when wrapped in layers, snuffles, and borderline psychosis. Luckily, I only have 2 tablets left. Never again!"

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I’m on day 4 of a 7-day treatment for BV (bacterial vaginitis) with Flagyl. I feel amazing. I was warned by my doctor and pharmacist of alcohol and side effects. On my 2nd pill, I did get abdominal pain and minimal diarrhea, but that was it. I expected it to continue, but so far I feel better than ever. I feel like it helped me in so many other ways than just BV treatment. I feel healthy and awake. All meds have side effects, some worse than others, and some experience more than others. My experience so far has been great."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I have taken this pill, metronidazole, for one week; i.e., twice per day, and the odor and vaginal discharge are all gone. I am praying they both don't come back. My vagina is now odorless. Thank God!!!"

For Trichomoniasis "So I was prescribed this medication for trich, as some of you are familiar with from reading previously. Well, I got great results from the medication, however, I did get vaginal irritation and itch with the discharge as a side effect. Honestly, having unprotected sex isn't a smart thing to do, but thankfully Trich is curable and the itch is also. Keep in mind, ladies, no matter how clean and good-looking he might appear, smelling good, he is probably not going to even know he is giving you more than a good five minutes of pleasure. It's 5 days of treatment that we carry now!!! Be smart!! Good luck."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "I have been taking Flagyl and Cipro for Diverticulitis, and it seems to be helping. After my stay in the hospital where the doctor put me on a food rest for several days, including IV antibiotics, he prescribed these two meds. There are some issues I have had taking them, such as low energy level, limited concentration when getting tired, but most of all nausea. I recommend if you are going to be taking either or both of these meds, always take with plenty of food (meal time, not just a snack), don't plan on doing too much (you won't have the energy), and ask your doctor for an as-needed prescription of a nausea medicine just in case you need it. I have needed something for nausea at least once daily since on the medicine."

For Bacterial Infection "It’s been months since I’ve taken this medication, and I still feel the symptoms from it. I developed a pain in my lower stomach, was having mini hallucinations, headaches, and diarrhea. I truly believe that taking this caused me to develop cysts on my ovaries. Please do not take!!! Run from these pills, I wish I would have never taken these. I’m writing this to save others."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Flagyl antibiotic sent me to the psych hospital! Within 24 hours of taking Flagyl, I was having side effects of being super drowsy, couldn't eat, having panic attacks, hallucinations, and so depressed I couldn't even get out of bed. I was also really confused and just out of it. I went to the psych hospital, where they made me finish the course, and it took WEEKS before I felt okay mentally. In its defense, it got rid of the BV. Flagyl is one of the most powerful and potent antibiotics out there, and I would only recommend it if you really need it."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I've never had any medication make me as sick as Flagyl has. The nausea is so bad, it has been waking me up at night. I'm calling my doctor today to get a different medication. I'm halfway through, but I can't handle another day of this. Absolutely never again."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "I have to say that metronidazole is a horrible antibiotic as far as side effects go, especially when one has to go to work. I experienced a lot of dizziness, migraines, muscle pain even in my heart, jittery, and drowsiness. I'm sure Flagyl is the same. Next time I'm asking not to get this prescribed by my doctor. Better yet, take it off the shelf."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "This drug caused uncontrollable diarrhea and stomach upset, and I had to stop taking it after just 2 days. This was given for mild diverticulitis, and I got better with a liquid diet for several days, then low-fiber soft food, and then graduated to regular foods. I had another bout of diverticulitis 4 months later and just did the diet - didn't go to doctors or use antibiotics. For my mild cases, this is the way to go. This drug caused more harm than good."

For Trichomoniasis "So I went to the doctor and they told me I had trich and a yeast infection with cervical cancer. They prescribed me metronidazole 500mg and told me to take 2x daily for 7 days but taking 18 wouldn't be 9 days. So anyways I'm all done, no yeast infection and no trich. Later, I found out it wasn't cervical cancer, it was just trich together with B.V. and the yeast infection that made it look like cancer cells. But thank God, till today, I'm all clear, no more unprotected sex..."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "Day 3 on Flagyl and Cipro. I thought I was having a heart attack. This stuff has horrid side effects. Discomfort in my chest and arm. Foggy-headed feeling, dizziness, unbalanced, headache, very nauseous, metal taste, very blurry eyesight. No energy, at 55 it is not a good thing to feel this way, especially when you are overweight and out of shape. This is only day 3. I don't think I can take this stuff for 7 more days. They say the IV kind is worse though. Supposedly it's helping (I do feel less pain in my abdomen, I think). If I make it through this stuff, I bet I will watch what I eat and make better choices in the future. I called the pharmacy and the doc, and both said to stay on it, Cipro 2X daily and Flagyl 4X daily. Scary stuff."

Metronidazole for Dental Abscess "At first, I felt a bit nauseous and had a whole body feeling like I had the flu when I started the meds. My dose was 500 mg four times daily. I ate an Activia yogurt daily and took Ranitidine to help with nausea. I would find that slowly sipping a caffeinated soda would also help with the nausea and give more energy. I had a severe infection, and it cleared it up."

For Diverticulitis "First time and hopefully last time with diverticulitis. On Cipro and Flagyl. No pain after 48 hours. Followed a clear liquid diet plus plain probiotic yogurt for 2 days to keep diarrhea at bay and NOT get thrush, then switched to a low fiber diet. Doctor only gave nuts/raw veggie restriction but I decided to give my colon a rest. Dark urine despite drinking 64 oz of water each day. Also, take a probiotic in the morning. I've read other posts saying meds would be stopped or reduced... NOT a good idea in order to completely eliminate the bacteria. I've heard the infection can return, not as a new infection, but because the bacteria count was diminished, not wiped out. A pharmacist told me to take the Flagyl first, then take the Cipro 2 hours later. That's helped!"

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "This is my third day on Flagyl and Cipro, 3 Flagyl and 2 Cipro per day. The Flagyl does not leave an awful taste in my mouth, but some food smells awful...the herbs and flowers in my garden smell nice, however. I also feel very anxious, but know now this is a possible side effect. It is a slow, depressing recovery, but Flagyl worked for me before. I will be very careful what I eat from now on, and I am going to try some liquid meals and eat gelatinous foods...chicken stew, avocados, beetroots, prunes....it's very hard to maintain a healthy diet when you have to work."

For Dental Abscess "I was prescribed 400 mg to be taken 3 times a day for a dental abscess and gum boil, both of which didn't clear up previously despite taking 2 full courses of amoxicillin. After day two, I was awakened by severe pain around my infected tooth and had to take codeine and ibuprofen just to not go crazy (this type of pain is an absolute terror). I noticed a strange sensation coming from the affected area and realized it was the abscess actually draining. It just shows how powerful and effective this drug is. You will read a lot of mixed reviews and stories of horrible side effects, but don't get put off by it. It is safe and effective when taken as prescribed, and it is better to suffer some minor inconveniences rather than indescribable agony."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "The bad reviews and side effects scared me. I don't need more toilet/cry time. So I did this to have zero loose stools and barely lowered mood: -Set up your phone alarm so you don't miss a dose. -Dose at equal times apart. Your body will benefit from consistent levels of antibiotics (AB). If you dose early, you get more side effects. If you dose late, bacteria can grow back. Example: For two doses per day, dose 24 ÷ (2) = 12 hours apart. -Take probiotics (PB) between your AB. AB kill both good and bad bacteria. Without good bacteria, your mood worsens (look up 'mood gut'). PB restores a healthy gut. I took AB twice a day; this was my alarm clock schedule: 10 am-AB, 4 pm-PB, 10 pm-AB, 4 am-PB (I'd wake up, eat a bit, dose, then back to sleep.) -Take all your AB. Follow these tips to get fewer side effects. Take all your AB to save humanity from AB-resistant bacteria! -Eat some food before you take either AB or PB to avoid upset stomach from AB and to get more benefits from the PB."

For Diverticulitis "Was put on Cypro and Flagyl for diverticulitis. Worked very well. Still have some pain, but most of the issues have gone away. I do have some fatigue, but that could also be a result of having a major infection. The bottom line is things would be far worse without these antibiotics."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "Used Flagyl in combo with Cipro after 4 days of IV antibiotics for a bad diverticulitis flare-up. No major side effects, provided that I used probiotics and yogurt religiously during the week-long course. I would take a probiotic about 1-2 hours before dosage, then eat yogurt, then another probiotic 1-2 hours after each dose. I was on a soft diet anyhow. Very little nausea, but quite manageable with ginger and peppermint tea and some rest. Also, drinking lots of water helped as well keep things moving and somewhat normal."

Metronidazole for Trichomoniasis "Omg, reading all these comments scares me. The doctor prescribed the 4 pills to take at once. Two days it was clearing up. After my period came, the trich came back. I went to get retested and I'm now waiting for results, but I already know I still have this infection. This med should work the first time. I guess it's not strong enough to kill the infection in one or even two doses. I'm scared, and I hope it goes away soon."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I went into the hospital on Saturday with extreme stomach pain and constipation. CT scan and blood work showed colitis with a bacterial infection. Prescribed 500 mg Flagyl 3x a day and 500 mg Cipro 2x a day. I've taken Cipro before but had never heard of Flagyl. I made the mistake of reading reviews and became panicked. But most people don't leave reviews when things are good. I'm on day 3, but things are okay. I have to take it with milk. Keeps the nausea and metallic taste to a minimum. I have mild stomach upset (but nothing compared to before) and a headache. It's not pleasant, but I'm almost halfway through. My suggestion is to eat and drink different things. I also found spacing out the Flagyl and Cipro helped with nausea as well. The medicine seems to be working. And the side effects have been bearable so far. Take each review with a grain of salt and remember-every body is different and will respond to things differently."

Diarrhea, headache, tired, dizzy, nauseous, foggy-headed, anxiety, depression, and body pain. I don't know if I can do this for 5 more days!"

For Dental Abscess "Like a previous reviewer, I was given metronidazole (3 x 200mg daily) for a tooth abscess after amoxicillin failed to clear the infection. Within 48 hours, as well as easing pain from the abscess, my Chronic Fatigue symptoms almost totally disappeared! After 7 years of believing that there was no hope of treatment, I felt I had been given my life back again! Keen to investigate this further, my husband stumbled on the review by Baroness 140, on 23 Feb 2014. We were stunned by the similarities. I received 14 days' treatment with metronidazole to allow for extraction of the tooth. I wait to see if the reprieve from CFS will continue."
