For Gastroparesis "I am a female in my mid-20s. I was given Reglan for issues related to previous abdominal surgery and gastroparesis. I only took it for about 2 days before I stopped. I felt extremely restless and couldn't stop sleeping, but also was never comfortable enough to fully fall asleep. I also felt like I was in a psychotic episode that was never going to end. I was extremely irritated/agitated, very depressed, and having suicidal thoughts. I thought I needed to quit my job and couldn't have a conversation with anyone. I know my doctor had no way of knowing how I would react to Reglan, and some people do well, but I think this is way too risky to be handing out."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given medication through IV for a flare-up of vertigo. I am so glad I found this thread because it just confirms I wasn't crazy. I literally described these same feelings to my family after. It's been a week, and I don't feel myself still. So immediately after the injection, I felt like I wanted to run out of the hospital. I sat up in the bed and wanted to peel my face off. I felt sad, hopeless, and like if it didn't stop, I would go crazy. I got so worried I called my mom and told her my body is so agitated and I can't stop moving. If I called the doctor in, I wouldn't even be able to talk for him to understand because this felt HORRIBLE and like I was being tortured. Avoid this drug, please. These comments are real!"

"WORST experience of my life! I was prescribed Reglan for nausea since I had been given pain medicine for a kidney stone. Immediately after putting the Reglan in my IV, I was a different person. I became extremely agitated. I had muscle spasms in my neck and couldn't stop twitching. I felt insane and like I was crawling out of my skin. I was so tired but couldn't sleep. I felt like what I would imagine roid rage to feel... The absolute worst feeling! I was given Benadryl to dull the side effects, and it didn't touch the symptoms. I had to wait for the medicine to run its course to actually feel normal again. I'm not sure how this medicine is okay to administer, but it needs to be illegal."

For Migraine "This drug is horrible! I went to the emergency department due to a post-COVID migraine that was so bad, I thought I might be having a stroke. They put this drug in the IV to help with the nausea. I’d never had it before and wasn’t told the potential side effects. Within ten minutes of starting the IV, I became agitated and began thinking of harming myself. I had no idea it was from the drug and only knew that I needed to leave the hospital so I could harm myself. Of course, I did not tell anybody that! I just told them that I was feeling better and needed to leave right away. A nurse came and removed the IV so I could leave, and within minutes, the intense thoughts and agitation subsided. I didn’t know what had happened to me until I got home later on and looked up the side effects of this drug. Even worse, if I had completed suicide, everybody would have thought it was me and not because of this nightmare drug. Terrifying to think how many this has happened to. Please stay safe."

For Gastroparesis "Went to the hospital for uncontrollable nausea/vomiting and am Type 1 diabetic. By IV, it made me restless, agitated, and my face felt slightly swollen, but it, along with some Zofran in between, stopped the vomiting. They diagnosed me with gastroparesis, so now I take it 30 minutes before I eat and once before bed."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have sickle cell disease, so in addition to severe pain, I have bouts of nausea and vomiting. I was given Reglan in the ER; within 5 minutes, I felt extreme agitation, restlessness, dripping sweat, and shaking uncontrollably. I begged the nurse to tell the doctor I was having a reaction. She did, but with very little urgency, instead telling me to get back in the stretcher, but I couldn't due to sweating, shaking, and needing to pace. I was sent for a chest X-ray, but the tech sent me back, saying she was uncomfortable handling me in this state. I again pleaded with the nurse to call the doctor. He finally came, and I was given Benadryl to reverse the effects. I felt calmer, but it took a while for the shaking to stop. The nurse and doctor acted like I was crazy, smh."

For Migraine "I had been treated in the ER for a migraine and received Toradol and some other anti-nausea meds, and I did wonderfully. Then, 2 mo. later, I went to the ER for a migraine, and they wanted to try something new: Toradol and Reglan. I thought to myself, the other treatment worked well, why change it? But the ER doc insisted. Toradol in IV was great, Reglan went in, and I felt it burn up my arm. I became agitated, and within 30 seconds, I said to my husband, I think I'm having a panic attack, and then I did! I am a medical professional, and here I was yelling for the nurses because I thought I was going to die. My poor husband! It was a wild experience of feeling like I was passing out, but I was lying down. It felt like I was losing blood flow to my brain. Horrible experience!"

For Migraine "I have given this through IV at the hospital for migraine without being warned of side effects. Within 15 minutes, my entire body felt like it was on fire, and I felt unbearably agitated and insane. I was writhing in the bed and gripping at my face, and they told me it would pass. It took a Benadryl and about 45 minutes to calm down. Reglan was probably the scariest experience of my life."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I had 3-10 mg tabs in a day. By the third pill, my throat was swelling, hives had appeared, I was agitated, confused, and having horrible cramps. Was given 50 mg Benadryl every 4 hours for the first 24 hours, but it took 3 days to return to normal."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This medicine is horrible. My doctor switched me to this from Zofran because of constipation. I took this one time, and it is causing severe anxiety, blurred vision, irritability, and an overall weird and bad feeling all over. I needed a medication for severe pregnancy nausea, and this did absolutely nothing but make me feel horrible. It also made my headaches worse. I am throwing the remainder of the pills in the trash because that is what they are."

For Nausea/Vomiting "One of the most terrifying experiences of my life. I was given Reglan through IV. I began sweating profusely and became very agitated. It progressed until I was inconsolable. I began begging my husband to help me escape the hospital. He told me I was crying and slapping myself. I was pacing around the room, sitting down and then immediately standing back up. My eyes were darting around. I remember being very suspicious of everyone around me. Anxiety does not even cover it. I've had panic attacks before and this was something else, something much worse. The only way I was able to keep myself from exploding was by hurting myself. I dug my nails into my skin and pinched myself till bleeding. Truly one of the worst experiences of my life. Please don’t risk this medication. There are other options."

For Migraine "Like the other anonymous user, I went to the ER with a migraine. I received this medicine and Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) intravenously. The side effects were intolerable. Within minutes of injection, a combination of agitation, nervousness, and anxiety overwhelmed my already throbbing head. I felt trapped, as if there was no escaping the discomfort of the side effects. I gave this a 3/10 because it still prevented me from throwing up after I already had several times. It works, but I won't ever use it again. I know it wasn't the Benadryl, as I have taken it since without incident."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Prescribed Reglan at the ER for slow gastric emptying and nausea while pregnant. My third dose is when I had the side effects. Restlessness, agitation, and the feeling of crawling out of my skin. Side effects finally went away after 6 hours. It was awful, and I will never take Reglan again."

For Gastroparesis "Four years ago, I was put on Reglan with little explanation of gastroparesis, which seemed to go away. I am bipolar II, and apparently it interacted with my psych meds. I was very agitated and angry to the point that I had to discontinue it. Eighteen months ago, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and now have gastroparesis. I need the Reglan badly! But I cannot rush the interpersonal aspects of hypomania, nor do I want to risk tardive dyskinesia or life-threatening serotonin syndrome. Sad."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Last night, I was in the ER for nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. Reglan was added after Zofran and meclizine didn’t totally resolve symptoms. Same as others, I experienced the worst agitation of my life. Screaming, thrashing, begging them to knock me unconscious. It was horrific. They gave me Ativan and Benadryl, eventually, I fell asleep. They said, oh, some people react this way. I can’t believe they continue to use a drug that does this."
