"I was diagnosed with narcolepsy when I was in my 1st year of college (1987). I went through debilitating sleep episodes since I was around 14 and thought it was normal. Being diagnosed changed my life. The brand name Ritalin has been removed from the market recently and though it was way more expensive for me, it was way more effective than the generic. I would rotate between generic and brand name when I needed to count on staying awake such as driving. The brand name keeps my blood pressure consistent and is so much more reliable. The generic takes sometimes 2 hours to finally be reliable and then it starts to fade within 1.5 hours. Taking Concerta slow release helps as long as I take it 2 hours before I need to be fully 'conscious'. Just like the Ritalin, Concerta's brand name is no longer available (as of years ago) forcing me to adjust each day as it comes unless I have my non-generic Ritalin. If someone is struggling with narcolepsy, don't give up! There is something out there."
